In 1969 humanity set foot on the moon.
In 2033 humanity set foot on Mars.
In 2050 humanity set foot on Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter.
While all outward appearances show Europa to be nothing more than a barren, ice-covered rock. It was discovered that the icy surface was nothing more than a shell. Beneath Europa's icy crust sits a massive underground ocean, it is theorized that this ocean is capable of harboring extraterrestrial life. While the surface of Europa is uninhabitable as a result of ionizing radiation, the depths of Europa's ocean is shielded by this radiation. This discovery is what lead to Europa being selected as a future colony for humanity.
The Europa Initiative is the government-funded group responsible for both determining if Europa is safe to inhabit as well as discovering if alien life exists beneath the surface. Over the years the Initiative has drilled into the surface in order to build outposts in Europa's ocean, the main problem the Initiative has faced is that constant shifting of the icy surface often causes any holes drilled into the surface to close over time, leaving any outposts in the depths stranded until a team can drill through 25 kilometers of ice to reach the ocean again.
In 2055 the Initiative managed to set up a total of five different monitoring stations in Europa's Abyssal Plain, one of the deepest parts of Europa's ocean. The teams that operate these self-sufficient outposts take the long trip from Earth to Jupiter before drilling 25 kilometers into Europa's crust, and after reaching the outposts, the hole they dug to reach the ocean seals behind them as Europa's ice plates shift, sealing them in the abyss for an entire year until the next team arrives to switch places.
Instead of sending valuable researchers into the Abyss, the Europa Initiative instead sends prison inmates that have volunteered to work in the Abyss in exchange for a reduced sentence. The suicide rate among the Abyss workers is high, and the number of workers that disappear in the Abyss is even higher.
It is 2068, You are a prison inmate that has been offered a chance at freedom in exchange for working in the abyss for one year.
Should you be accepted, you would be part of the 13th expedition into the Abyss.

When is the event: August 12-13
What models are going to be used?
Remember
Just because someone else has already applied for a position doesn't mean you shouldn't apply! You might be picked for the event if your application is better than another candidate's.
Try to be creative when making your character, and don't be afraid to make your character a bad person, the Abyss is hell, do they deserve to die down there or will they find some sort of redemption for their sins?
Also, a word of warning, just because you can make your character evil doesn't give you the right to ruin the event for everyone else by going on a killing spree or blowing up random things. The Europa Initiative hires from prisons, not mental institutions.
there is no 13th diver
