  1. Selection of Suitable Plants Choose healthy, vigorous plants from open-pollinated or heirloom varieties. These plants will produce seeds that are true to type, ensuring consistent and reliable crops.
  2. Allowing Vegetables to Fully Mature Vegetables should be left on the plant until they reach full maturity, beyond the usual harvest point. This ensures the seeds are fully developed and viable. For instance:
    • Tomatoes should be left to ripen fully and even become slightly overripe.
    • Cucumbers should be allowed to turn yellow and harden.
    • Peas and beans should be left to dry and become brittle.
  3. Harvesting Seeds
    • Wet Processing: For fruits like tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash, scoop out the seeds and surrounding pulp. Allow the mixture to ferment in water for a few days, then rinse and dry the seeds thoroughly.
    • Dry Processing: For beans, peas, and peppers, let the pods or fruits dry on the plant. Harvest the dried pods, shell them, and collect the seeds. For peppers, open the fruit and scrape out the seeds.
  4. Cleaning and Storing Seeds Clean the seeds by removing any remaining pulp or chaff. Once cleaned, spread the seeds out to dry completely. Store them in a cool, dry place in labeled containers to ensure they remain viable for the next planting season.

Would be beneficial as someone whose done it IRL the only thing you need to watch out for are the GMO vegetables you get at alot of mainstream markets (Foreign super markets (Asian) are a great place to source produce for this unironiclly) There are certain vegetables that have been genetically modified (This is and IRL thing its documented look it up) where if you took the seeds from the fruit/veg and tried planting it they wont grow so just be mindful of that.

Maybe this can be used to balance the market?

We do need this. You get more than one seed when a fruit fully grows, so seeds should be inflated. I always thought it was an IC ask thing.

Hi, Thank you for your suggestion.

I agree that the whole system needs to get a rework, though I'm unsure about the whole process. My original goal was to make a simple and reliable system for players to utilize the Cooking skill, something that I think has been left out for a while now, and doesn't have that many uses.

I do plan on re-working it soon, whenver I get the time. What we're in need as of now are some new models for the plants, I could also add some extras depending on the quality/availability of the models (cuz I don't think the models have been replaced yet)

But overall it could work; though not having an in-depth mechanic like that, but something that adds an extra layer of flavor.
I'm still taking in ideas, if you'd like to pitch in in some regarding the system as a whole, there's a thread on the discord that I'm currently using to discuss this.

Ideally, Fertiliser should affect the harvest yield instead of just modify the growth rate.

I also spent four fertilisers (12 bones [largely inaccessible material]) and it only made the plant grow maybe 3x faster.

Another thing of mention is plants existing over the agreed perspective, the yield quality is affected by the mean hydration, and it would fall to below 40%~ which would enter into no seed return territory (absolute disaster).

Another thing ^, I feel like to make farming more viable, fertiliser should be added to the fabrication systems via biopaste. Of course advanced fertiliser would remain IC material.

suggestion boogaloo 2

Another thought to add is the xenian herbs being 'unplantable' by all factions except vortigaunt.

When attempting to plant it, you get the notice 'you do not know how to plant this seed'.

I feel that instead of BANNING it entirely, it should be something done by specialised classes such as max cooking, max medical or max crafting skill levels.

afaik cooking level relates to harvest yield, maybe to make it more relevant it can affect growth speed or the amount of fertiliser you need

Farming rework is likely required. Accepting this for now but it might be a while until anything is seen in-game.

ACCEPTED.
