With the addition of drugs in the near future and some like cigarettes and morphine already being implemented I think adding a needs bar for addiction to specific substances could make for interesting RP. Especially if said substances are rare or expensive, desperate circumstances and all that.

If you're going to make drugs addictive you should be very considerate of the use for the drugs. Morphine considering it is often used during medical procedures in the CMU. For the rest it really depends on whats being implanted, certain drugs don't have as serious withdrawals and for the extended amount of time games usually present. The sickness which follows for most drug withdrawals in 1-2 weeks max; however, 1-2 weeks of pure hell.

Cigarettes should be considered as chosen trait when creating the character imo; addiction from cigarettes typically takes prolonged use over the course of months/years.

This is a good idea, I think there should be consequences of having addictions and withdrawals, like skill debuffs. But yeah some consideration for medical items will need to be taken.

I already simulate addiction on my own, but maybe an additional system could work.

Just to be clear I don't think your character should die or anything when the addiction "need" runs out. Maybe temporarily reduced stats or a chance at passing out, something that you want to avoid but isn't game ending by any means. The point being that how addicted your character is, is up to you. Deal with that stat debuff for a couple days and you stop suffering from addiction, or go find more drugs.

Anything beyond that would be intrusive.

Great idea, that's exactly the sort of player interaction I hope a small system like this can add.

Best to RP this for now, might perhaps one day add a system for it however there are more important things to focus on. Because of that I'll deny this but could be brought up another day in the future
