So, I know the Outlands are supposed to be dangerous and all, and I completely understand the fact that we spawn NPCs on people who go into the outlands.
BUT, there is something called OVERKILL.

So, first of all, it's egregrious that I get 3 houndeyes spawned on me the moment I step foot into the outlands. But hey, I'll deal with it right. Mid gunfight, while I'm shooting at the houndeyes, who may I add are jumping around and are annoying targets. I get a bullsquid spawned 0.5 meters behind me, for some reason.

Since these fuckers hit through armor, I died and got put into bleedout. Luckily, I was able to be saved... But I lost almost 2 mags of bullets in the process.

Can we stop having admins/GMs/Whoever spawn overkill in the outlands on people who are simply trying to Roleplay? This has been a reoccuring theme, and back during the 'blackout' arc, there were multiple times where admins spawned a bunch of Zombies on people who tried to RP, and then people are shocked why there was no RP happening.

I also demand my 2 mags of ammunition to be refunded. They are *NOT* cheap to make.

When I played it felt like I was being pushed out of that part of the map. For a temporary thing like- a GM setting something up and wanting you to leave without saying directly? This is fine, but nothing goes on out there most of the time and the NPC spam feels more like I'm being punished for my sins than just risking my character.

Though I am glad it's being looked into. I would hate to lose my epic rifle to a bullsquid. I actually hate bullsquids the most. I mag dump their ragdolls everytime I see them. I really hate them, they are the worst enemy to fight in half life I'm glad they scrapped them for the other games I just don't like them. Their bodies wouldn't work with weight distribution while walking or trotting. They make 0 sense as to how they even eat or function. I hate these things with a burning passion.

They truly are. I remember once a few days ago being swarmed with bullsquids that ignore armor so much that one of us ended up dying to them because the GM kept spawning bullsquids that ended up flying because of a bug.

(We didn't get compensated for it or anything, I guess bullsquids learned how to fly)

The Outlands are primarily an event-first part of the map. While we do allow you in it, we do not want you to stay in it for egregious amounts of time, hence the seemingly "overkill" NPC spawning. You feel like you're being pushed out, and that's because you are. We want you to be mainly be within the city. It's also why there are and will continue to be constant Combine patrols in the outlands as well, ranging from conscripts to OTA and synthetics. Alternatively, we could scale back on the NPC spawning but add a gas zone to the outlands, if that's something you guys are comfortable settling with.

I can tell you right now. I stepped outside of the cave and encountered them as soon as I went up the ladder.

Looks like 5 houndeyes and 1 bullsquid were spawned today, all by the same person (Ekrell)

These are all your houndeye-related logs from today. There's roughly 40 seconds between the first houndeye being spawned and you making contact with it.

Still, tagging @Ekrell to elaborate further, but these are the logs as far as I can tell.

Hello!

I don't believe there's a lot to be said here, usually when I'm spawning NPCs, I do so in places where the player have a chance to react, out of their sight and within some distance. I'm trying to scale the difficulty level accordingly to the player gear, unless there's literally nothing to work with (like a random bluesuit running in with nothing but a hatchet, in which case it's their fault entirely). As for this particular scenario, I knew that Gutsy was right there and able to assist you, so I ramped up the difficulty just a little. I'm going to be honest, I wasn't expecting you to go down, the NPC group (while dangerous) wasn't really that much of an overkill either. I suppose the bullsquid freaky nature of ignoring armor was what downed you.

While I know your pain (I was on the receiving end of wasting 10 magazines worth of ammunition for nothing too), I don't agree with the refund. Ammo is there to be spent, it's just a natural risk that comes along with entering the Outlands. It just so happens that assault rifle ammo is one of the most expensive ones to make (357 gang anyone?)

I can't speak for other GMs, obviously, just defending my case here.

AR bullets cost like 800 chips per 60 okay? That shit is expensive...

I have to second this. Gms are just ouright spawning antlions ontop of players, i had 3...3 red antlions spawned 1 meter beside me as i'm low Hp.
The next time this happens it's just straight to staff reports, get your shit together please... you'r spawning the highest dealing dmg antlion ontop of players.

If you're paying 400 for a box of AR, you're getting scammed. IC issue.
I made up these sources for dramatic effect. In reality it would cost me about 150 chips per 30 rounds

yeah lets lockdown the rebel area that has no spores. GM braincell overload when they see ppl basing in the outlands

delete if im just an annoying cunt with an opinion

if you are trying to make a valid argument why do you quote "made up these sources for dramatic effect"

doesn't make sense to make random shit up if your trying to make a point

rant end <3

'bad take' incoming, but I don't honestly see an issue with the NPCs in the outlands. The area IS SUPPOSE TO BE DANGEROUS. Granted yes, if things are actually being spawned a literal foot away from players or ontop of them then I can see an issue as it clearly doesn't give them time to react.. But Antlion NPCs that I've encountered recently give you clear audible warnings that they are coming to fight, as well as most are spawned a decent distance away to where they have to take a moment or two to run at you.
Bullsquids have always been a pain in the ass and buggy NPC when it comes to spawning them in, ever since TBC was still a thing, but the fact remains that it's one of the harder enemies to face because it literally SPITS ACID at you.. That stuff doesn't wash off.

This and more I can absolutely agree with.. Things like ammo, armor kits, medical supplies are all tools you should have if you're going into a situation expecting to fight.. or have to defend yourself. The outlands are home to wildlife, conscripts, transhuman arm patrols, Synths, ECT.. You never know what you can find, whether its a player group of an opposing faction or NPCs spawned by a gm. To argue its a waste of supplies is a weird hill to die on.

The outlands isn't the only area accessible to rebels with no spores.. It just happens to be the most dangerous.

The entire area has no spores. Riddle me this GM’s

What events have happened out there that requires us to not be allowed to base or rp out there in the past week?

I also think its really fucking ironic that they add planters but the one place they should actually be used is off limits oocly. Its honestly funny.

Ekrell is not in the wrong here. Everything they did was within exceptional parameters, thus they will not be receiving any punishment whatsoever.

I will need to state this, the Canals are meant to be a dangerous, event-first area. This has not changed, and we've only started allowing bases in that area as groups grow past the need for city bases among other reasons I'm not knowledgeable of. Hence it being an event-first area, we'd rather prefer you guys to spend most of your time in the city. So to encourage that, we increase the danger of the canals to push people into the city.

This isn't changing, and in fact, will be exacerbated with automatic NPC spawning that'll make the canals dangerous all day, every day.

Also, my points below reflect my current sentiment.
