Hello all, Professional AP Complainer ramen here.

I'm sure you're all familiar with AP, but if you aren't, here's a quick explanation by ours truly, Rad-X.

Now, this sounds pretty good right? A time for a break, a rest from the server. What's not to love about the
Restaurant Route: 24/5 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) - AGREED PERSPECTIVE?

Everything.

There is nothing to like about AP. Truly, it does NOTHING for server longevity.
It is claimed to be a time to rest from the server, but many during AP still yearn to play.

If you check the Discord, there are many messages from many users asking for/saying either:
  1. No AP, ever again.
  2. No AP, for a specific week.
  3. A complaint on AP.
Does this sound like something that users want? If there are people that complain of AP, why keep it around?

Let's look at the announcement reactions when AP is cancelled/has ended:

And now, let's look at the announcement reactions when AP was re-established:

There's a clear difference in the reactions to AP being active versus it being cancelled/ending.

"But AP is good! It gives a rest from the server, a well needed break! It also allows CT and Narrative Team to cook up new stuff!"
You know what? I'm semi-agree. It is a well needed break from the server, but saying that it is primarily used for CT/NT to make exciting new events is spouting the redundancies that have been said for over the last year.

I will not doubt that a lot of Event/Narrative work happens behind the scenes during AP. But my point here is, does AP need to exist for this to happen?
Can these CT/NT not work on events behind the scenes, whilst keeping the server up?

"But it allows staff to take a break."

Also very true, but I once again ask: Does the server need to be closed for staff to take a break?
I know many of you will say, "Well no duh." But, hear me out.

Staff can easily take breaks from the server without the server needing to close. Hell, any user can.
There is no need to shut the server down for 2 days to have a break.

If you are burnt out, or in need of a break, take one. I promise, the server will likely still be here when you come back.

"Well then ramen, what the hell do you suggest?"

Simple. Leave the server open for Wednesday and Thursday.
But, cease any narrative/event progression during this time.

"What so.. Just AP but with the server open?"
Yes. Exactly. That is exactly what I am suggesting.

Agreed Perspective needn't keep the server closed, but it is also 'needed' to give everyone a break.
So I suggest compromise.

The server remains open during Wednesday and Thursday, but any narrative halts at the end of Tuesday, and resumes beginning Friday.

The server remains open Wednesday/Thursday for people to play, the Event/Staff Teams get a chance to rest, and players who don't want to play these days won't miss anything large, narratively.

All will be right with the world.

Thank you for coming to my Ramen Talk.

I hate AP and think one day a week should be sufficient.

Like many others on the weekends I travel, make plans with people, so it limits play time pretty significantly. Besides merely administrative necessity I think it’s pretty stupid to close the server for two entire days.

Dear OP, touch grass! That's what AP is for.

The break is good for everyone. Avoids like everyone says, burnout and its also good for the server's health/performance!

I do touch grass..?
My point is that AP needs a change, and its current state could do better, as some others in this thread have said.

So thank you, dear commenter, but telling me to touch grass was an awful insult.

Funnily enough the brains in CT and NT thought of all those new and engaging arcs like: "Infestation arc 3.0" and "Debt arc" and now, coming from the same creators we have "Indebted to City 13 arc". The server was down for about 3 months and the best they could come up with were arcs that excluded rebels.

"But it allows staff to take a break."
I'd agree with this if staff ever did anything. This mf @George played like 3 days last month and still got admin of the month. If Admins actually did shit, then sure, they need a break. But 90% of the time they just play the server like anyone else, they just have a bit more access to things

I think keeping the server open on either thursdays or wednesdays is fine.

I think most people touch grass on weekends. People use the weekends to hang back, chill, go outside, do whatever due to the hectic weekdays they have.

This. I think it’s wrong to assume that most people don’t do anything with weekends besides sit inside. Today is a perfect example. I’m travelling to see my parents this weekend, tomorrow I have work and then I’ll get on the road straight afterwards.

I could be roleplaying right now but I’m not because reasons.

While I'd love to play the server, I do understand the need for the downtime.

On top of everything that has been mentioned, it helps the devs push important updates without worrying about it breaking at restart, disrupting the players with unplanned downtime while they work to resolve any issues.

I know from experience you can put the exact same files on an identical server, just hosted on a different box, and shit will still somehow breakdown and cause mayhem.

I'd suggest, if anything, just use Wednesday as AP.

Even if we don't reduce the time for AP, I do believe it is somewhat needed not only to give people a break, but to progress the server development as smooth as possible.

"But I wanna play!"

cabal: i don't want to

"I don't care if u don't wanna play!"

Cabal: don't care.

Hey, CT coordinator here. AP is absolutely necessary for events and breaks during an arc for both players and CT.

Also, map updates regularly come out during AP, where we can perform maintenance without having to worry about the server.
Breaks from what exactly? Nothing goes on besides npc spam in the outlands.

Hello, I felt the need to reply to this

If you're ignorant of what CT does you shouldn't antagonize them in a reply, only because you didn't see them do major things for you it doesn't mean that they weren't done to contribute with the server health in general with plans for other factions/Rebel cells and individual players

Lastly many people have a private life other than coordinating a Gmod Server, a break for time management is always useful

This is the reason I most respect AP. If the server team is genuinely fragged from being on 6/7 days a week then that’s entirely understandable.

We're a voluntary team to enhance roleplay across the board. There is no need to present hostilities in a thread pushing for change, and the fact that you are continuously aggressive toward players as well as staff is completely ridiculous. You need to tone it down, it's irritating and uncalled for.

i'd like you to actually count how many people independently reacted on those comments, then tell me the total amount of people then.
discord reactions isn't a reliable data source, as one person can react many times on a post.

Using your provided data source and with no personal research, I can see that a grand total of 27 people are disheartened by the concept of AP.

Also, you didn't mention the announcement where it also states maintenance is being undertook.

As you and I both know, development on willard takes months because the dev team needs to be mindful of conflicting lines of coding utilizing a 2004 game engine.

probably should've proof read this but AS i RE-READ this as I posted it, i think it sounded passive aggressive. so sorry

tl;dr: i think your wrong

Aggressive? Im referencing the thread liam made where he was swarmed with npcs.

I think we should create a second server that is only open on wednesday and thursday
