IMPORTANT NOTICE

This is specifically for content creators and interested individuals alike - lore production will be postponed temporarily until we get full clarification from the new Half Life game. Considering the trailer has already impacted much of the infrastructure already built, it's imperative and most unfortunate that we are at a halt until possibly December this year, all the way up to March 2020 (but I doubt that very much) that we may hold production until everything is clarified. These can be changed depending on what information is available.

If you post anything from this point on wards, they will have to be left untouched even after thorough examination. Even my own work requires fixing and some of it was based on player feedback. While I understand where some of you come from in regards to your understanding, Valve overshadows this completely.

EVERYTHING BELOW IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND DOES NOT REPRESENT THE ORIGINAL HALF LIFE 2 RELEASE.

So what does this mean?
  • This means that we can keep track of everything that's been changing / kept the same since the revealing of Half Life: Alyx.
  • It allows us to maintain an open mind - considering we are only a few years into the occupation in our lore, we will have to seriously reconsider where we are standing. The timeline will have to be pushed forward.
  • Finally give leeway to some questions that have been left unanswered for weeks, months or even years.
What do we currently know?

- Main Details -


Citadel was built on Earth - This means that the Citadel in full was not warped onto the planet’s surface during the Seven Hour War like many people believe. A combination of the two involving the core of the Citadel being warped in and the rest being constructed planet-side was confirmed by the writers. Floating bastions or warships capable of spacial travel were presumed used as the powerhouse of the main occupation force until its completion.

Earth-Xenian Landscapes - The world seems to have been Xenoformed rather heavily in some places. Points out the fact that hostile alien creatures have made their home in large numbers on the planet. Mostly within sewers or other underground areas.

Lenin Statues - City Seventeen is definitely located somewhere in Eastern Europe.

Biogel / Medigel - Substances drained from miniature antlion grubs are utilised as the main source of the healing gel. And no, it doesn’t cause cancer. Stop saying that. It's literally alien gel.

Weapons - All weapons seem to be the same, other than the fact that the Combine seem to have implemented their own technology with standard human weapons. Why this was done, we do not know. Combine Soldiers appear to be holding prototypes of the Pulse Rifle. If I am mistaken, they may be something else instead.

"The Vault" - Firstly, we do know that Vaults always hold something very valuable. What it contains however is currently unknown and in relation to the Combine, it could be anything.

Propaganda - The Combine use a lot of propaganda to achieve their aims. Broadcasting screens don't appear to be pointing down on the populace, but rather facing upright.

Portal Storms - They are still ongoing in Half Life: Alyx and the Combine did not have full control over everything just yet. It's a perpetual state of chaos between Xenian creatures constantly flooding the world along with the buildup of potential resistance. The Combine might be harnessing power from them, somehow.

'Universal Union' - The UU is not an official name. Everything is practically "The Combine".

- Minor Details -

Hunter Choppers - Used in very high numbers and utilised as back-and-forth construction lifters and legislative supply runners. This does not mean it was their original purpose or intent.

Headcrabs & Zombies - Not to be fucked with or underestimated, it seems. They have larger claws or pincers and appear to be very sneaky. During the first Half Life game, their levels of aggression and danger were seriously high. It may appear that these headcrabs are still adapting to Earth's biosphere. Expect them to be more intelligent than their Earth-bred counterparts as what the trailer suggests.

Dropships - Not high in number, still in use during the early phase of the occupation.

Strider Watchtowers / Constructors - Think of the game Dishonoured. It has either binoculars or a camera on the top of its compartment, or the same can be said about it being a form of building unit with a form of welding module. The Beta concept of Half Life 2 had crab synths being used as builders with welding lasers. We could see a combination of both.

Poison Headcrabs - They do not have hair on top of them, they have spikes. They appear red in colour. This settles that debate.

Conceptbine - Combine soldiers in relation to behaviours and appearance to be that of earlier concepts. Whether or not they are the first versions of their "future selves", it's a certain possibility.

Overwatch & Civil Protection - Both appeared to be working together a LOT. Even the art includes Combine Soldiers being posted with Civil Protection and they appear to be more aggressive than previously thought during the early phases of the occupation. They may also have a humane behavioural side to them before their humanity is wiped out.

Scanners - There is no doubt that the Overwatch AI is active in some way, shape or form. The artificial intelligence is online somewhere early in this timeline.

New Xenians - Small critter appears to resemble that of a stingray during the opening phases of the trailer.

Vortigaunts - The Combine openly use propaganda against Vortigaunts and openly call them "Vorts" within the posters. This may change.

Combine Language - Written vocalisation suggests the Universal Union does indeed have a form of communication method involving a language based system. This in turn suggests that the annexation process of humankind being integrated into the Combine is hastily approaching.

Combine APC's - Newly outfitted vehicles appear to be some form of converted SWAT van.
 
Added:
  • OCIN Communication Networks - these towers ensure where and how Combine planet-wide communications are working to their fullest extent. This will one day be explained in the future in more detail.
  • City One has been given an Overwatch NEXUS.

  • City 34 has been implemented in South Korea.
Moved:
  • Black Mesa has been moved to its parent geological location in the New Mexico desert.
 
Added:
  • Exclusion Zone throughout the New Mexico desert.
  • New Combine Blacksite - #39, located within the South Sandia Peak.

  • The Union Planetary Research Directive is making their appearance across Oceania, Latin America and Central Africa.
  • Compound Epsilon added in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
 
Important

As I said before after analysing a lot of what has been coming out of Valve and following an official canon outlook from Valve very closely since the broadcast of HL:Alyx, the lorefront will be drastically changed regarding dates and various events in the near future. The custom setting will still be the same. Expect incoming changes and a /lot/ more spaces to be filled up regarding it and a major extension of what is the timeline of events set up within my mega thread.

  • Further extension of previously spoken additions placed around Compound Epsilon.
  • All affiliated UPRD sections are finished (forgive the same icon abundance, there are custom ones being made.)
 
Altered:
  • Most icon sizes are going to be reduced to 20x20, instead of 40x40. This process is being done already on minor icons throughout the map. This will make it much easier to navigate and has already given a positive vibe and effect.
  • This is an important one: Black Sites & Ascension Facilities are now identifiable. The main reason for this change was so story elements and additions do not cause clashes and make it far easier to maintain.
Added:
  • The CALYPSO Facility within the Philippines now contains its own description and set boundaries.
  • Black Mesa East now has a Vortigaunt Conclave nearby.
  • Equinox added Compound 1A within the central United States and other small facilities.
Expect more livelihood for cities being filled in for the future.
 
Altered:
  • Most icons are now half their size, very few of them will be bigger than others. This is still a work in progress as I still require a few icons missing from my end. Will continue soon.
Added:
  • A whole bunch of new cities! YAY! Remember that the ones coloured blue are free to be written up by anyone interested in the submissions section.
 
Added:
  • Various zones around the planet marked in red borders are the destinations where incredibly large portal storms had made their mark. These areas are deemed as no-go zones where life is considered purely inhospitable to human beings.
  • Some new cities added onto the United States of America with a few expansions. They don't have a description yet.
  • One new OCIN tower has been added onto City Eight in Tokyo.
  • City Eight has a large protective barrier-wall encircling the city just like in the original maps for it.
Altered:
  • City Seventeen has been moved to Sofia, Bulgaria, after confirmations have been made thanks to Half Life: Alyx on its real location.
  • Industrial Seventeen has been moved to a position with a large embodiment of water due due to me remembering Shell Beach is still a thing. (lmao)
 
Added:
  • The Long Haul event chain in New England. For every single event completed, the map will be updated as part of the lorefront and essentially given the route to which the players on the saga follow through.
Altered:
  • City 70 has an added description with some zones. More to come on that, later.
 
Latin America Update
Added:
  • Various unique factions expanded upon within the tropical rainforest of the Amazon, vying for control of differing territories and untapped abundant resources.
  • The "Demônios da selva"...
European Update
Added:
  • Netherlands and Belgium have their own cities that can be taken by anyone to write up community lore. Nothing official planned for the areas as of yet.
 
The Long Haul Update
  • The Gas Station and the Bunker have had their descriptions bolstered with the actions of what the Long Haulers completed during their passive roleplay.
European Update
  • City Fifty Eight - THE HAGUE has been added to the global map.
The Union Logistics Committee
  • One of their main operational facilities has been documented just south west of The Hague.

  • Added external facilities and research outposts for Compound 1A in the United States. - Equinox

In order to better accommodate both the roleplayer and the writer, we have compiled all of our lore into one post that details almost every aspect of our HL2RP lore. This was done so that players could create and develop better characters, and those with the urge to write have an easily accessible document of lore to learn from. European Update:
  • City Seventeen moved to Varna for the following reasons:​
    • Giving the city and its boundaries an actual coastline.​
      • Especially for Nova Prospekt. You just wouldn't see large shipping vessels on a two / three mile long lake, especially D-Day like bunkers and barricades.​
    • Canals are a lot more reasonable.​
    • Lot more open space.​
I'll need to do a handful of small changes in other particular regions of the lorefront to accompany this change, like I did earlier with Sofia. While Sofia is considered the "canon" location thanks to HL:A, the game doesn't consider the above previously mentioned details. I've thought about this for a long time, but it allows it to be a bit more consolidated.

  1. Removed a lot of the useless UPRD outposts. There was 100+ of them so cleaned them up
  2. Updated a few descriptions

Dublin - Replace with Terminal City. Services ECHELON and North-Western Europe
City Six (Croatia) - Replace with Terminal City
Hamburg - Replace with Never Established
Constanta (Romania) - Moved I-17 to here. Friendlier location for City Seventeen Proximity.
Sofia - Replace with Never Established.

Middle Eastern Update

Replace all cities with Never Established except for Cairo and City 55 (UAE). City 55 is free to be written by anyone interested.
Created "Middle East Wasteland" that can be described as a state of unending chaos of Xenian Life and Islamic Extremists.
Created a NEW terminal in Port Said.

African Update

Created a NEW Terminal in Cape Town.
Africa now has a new wasteland zone.

Asian Update

City 20 as abandoned.
A Terminal in Sri Lanka (Catastropically overpopulated due to mass evacuations from India)
Turn Northern India into a Quarantine Zone & Outlands (Effective Anarchy since ESIC blew up Bangladesh and the Combine have been basically murdering anyone trying to create anything that resembles settled society).

Christchurch into a Terminal City and move that city to Auckland
Turn Hawaii into a Abandoned City (The combine maintain a military stronghold here but does not use it as a settlement anymore.

Americas Update

City 56 as never established (Phili)
Create a NEW Terminal in Havana, Cuba
Abandon Mexico City (Purple) (The Creeping American wasteland had already sealed the fate of this already anarchic city)
Turn City 21 (Seattle) into a "Terminal City" (This Terminal is used for logistics purposes for UPRD operations in Western American Wastes)


OVERALL, the purpose of this update was to solidify and centralise the Combine's control of Earth down to mostly Europe and other core territories in other continental regions. We have lowered the amount of active cities and left the rest to be virtually telling its own story - whether this is investigated by players, or whether content creators actively add something in through submissions.
