"Better not be another useless amenity the Loyalists are requesting..." she mutters, rolling her eyes and letting out a light chuckle.
The room would be silent as Marijke reads over the content of the message, eventually letting out a sigh.
"Again? Like I have time for leisure visits to Geneva, damn City doesn't keep itself together."
The administrator straightens her back before writing a response to the summon.​

OOCly, what is your motivation for joining this series?: I would like to come back from the holiday break in full swing. I joined WN to work on my writing abilities, so here is one of my latest attempts to do so. I was previously not paying much attention to the politics of the City Administrators as it was irrelevant to me at the time, so I will need to do some catching up on the latest events.

City 57

Spoiler: City 57 Lore

*Inspired by current City 57 lore

City 57 is a vital powerhouse to the Combine. The defining feature of this city is the vast megastructure located at the center, which serves as it’s Nexus. Swarms of dropships and helicopters pass in and out of this massive construction at an almost constant rate. Extending for several blocks and reaching over half a kilometer in height, this imposing edifice was spotted not long after the 7-Hour War. Though nobody can say exactly how it ended up there, it has been operating steadily ever since.

City 57's primary directive was to transform the city of Brussels, as heavily war torn as it is, into a secure hive of industry. This required extensive amounts of rebuilding which took the first few years of its inception just to make the district habitable. Residential blocks of Combine design were built from the ground up in the areas surrounding City 57. These drab structures served to house the relatively small population of unfortunate citizens assigned to work inside the midnight box. Citizens could often be seen arriving at the train station, but nobody has ever heard of anyone receiving a relocation coupon out of this city. It is suspected that the nature of their work makes their residency permanent.

There is little outside information about what actually goes on within the cold walls of City 57’s Nexus, but it is thought to serve multiple purposes. For start, far more Combine synths leave the structure than enter it, so it’s a safe assumption that some kind of fabrication center resides within to create these creatures of war. When asked about it, however, the few people who have managed to escape this city say they've never worked on anything related to these crafts, to their knowledge. Reconnaissance of the outer residential blocks reveals that an absurd proportion of Civil Protection is assigned to this city in comparison to its citizen population. For every citizen there are two Civil Protection units, and patrols can be seen at all hours marching in tandem through the streets. The only plausible explanation that people agreed on was that Civil Protection send officers here for training. It makes sense - on any given day you could see an otherwise empty building being occupied by Civil Protection going through drills. People generally agree, though, that the officers here act far more amicably than in other cities they've been in, though all of that could just be due to a low workload from lack of citizens.

A stretch of leveled buildings and empty streets make up the perimeter of the megastructure Nexus. Guarded by APC patrols and Overwatch snipers, this no man’s land is completely restricted from citizens, and accessed by Civil Protection only through designated routes. Every day, citizens are brought into the Nexus by Civil Protection through specific gates. They are loaded into pods that then transport them to their work zones, where they use strange tools and unfamiliar processes to fabricate all kinds of advanced technology, from terminals to munitions.

It is well known among those who get to enter this place that the cavernous ceiling of the pod transportation system is often seen crackling with green energy. Earsplitting electrical roars rip through the walls of the Nexus intermittently.
This same green hue can also be seen during certain times at night as it is dispersed along the electric cables that power the residential blocks. Because of this it is generally agreed that the Nexus serves as some kind of power plant as well, though the exact means of energy production is unknown.

Recently City 57 has begun taking in far more citizens in an expansion effort to increase production; casts of construction striders have been sent out to the surrounding wreckage of Brussels to clear rubble away and make room for new erections of gray concrete and blue metal, including a new general-purpose production block for citizens to produce local goods outside of the Nexus. Lately, Smart Barriers seem to be the focus, with the massive autonomous walls being erected around the existing residential blocks, spire by spire, as the city takes shape.

However, the city is not the only thing that has been growing… The neighboring Alsace-Lorraine Wound to the east continues to fester, harboring legions of unholy abominations that gnash and claw and maul anything in sight. The struggle for survival among these hellish creatures have caused them to disparately spread out across Europe, decimating the remaining wildlife populations they come in contact with. As sightings of strange creatures moving in the forests to the east of the city increase, so too have Overwatch outposts along the eastern perimeter.

A surviving member of the early occupational purges, Fettuc secured his power in Malta through a strong alliance with Rome.

In 2018, years following Unification, Fettuc is now apart of the Mediterranean Futurist Stronghold.

His City, far enough into the Sea to still have port access, maintains a sizable naval fleet ultimately loyal to Rome.

Malta, the small island nation, is currently in the midst of a growing Futurist and Humanist world. At the moment, it's mostly stable.

Fettuc now branches outwards, seeking to reaffirm ties with his allies and build up the alliance further.
