Auth revoked
Whom it may concern:
Auth/Balance team, but it would affect everyone, I suppose.
Summary:
Basically, I found out (details below) that my auth has been revoked, this is the first time I've heard of this ever happening and I would like to discuss it.
In depth analysis of the issue:
Note that I completely understand the reasoning behind the decision made, but I believe that it opens up the door to further problems, and the outcome that occurred was also less than satisfactory in my book.

For context, I've not been on WN for the last 5-ish months, I've decided to spend less time on RP-focused videogames. WN was a major one.

So recently, I've decided to play WN again, I've had a few char concepts I wanted to try, and I wanted to play on a character I hadn't played in a while, too. A rebel character with auth to make guns under very specific circumstances approved by Liam (who I know now no longer plays). Auth attached here:

So I log on, talk to Pathfinder, who tells me to double check w/ the auth team. Alessio lets me know that the auth unfortunately has been revoked due to balance team no longer wanting weapons to be craftable.

I understand the reasoning, but on my end, it's also unfair having an auth suddenly revoked, without having done anything wrong. The character survived a lot, went on outlands & such with him, so it's not to say that I didn't take any risks. IMO, auths should never be revoked, at least not without a rule addition saying 'Not using the auth for X days/months leads to losing it.' or such, and I haven't seen such a rule though I could be wrong.

Suggestion for improvement:

Again, I understand where Staff & Auth team are coming from, but if this now goes against the economy model the server is going for, then the auth team should work with the auth holder to re-work the auth, instead of a straight up removal.

I don't really make appeals or complaints because after all it's just a game we play for fun, and this isn't really the end of the world *anyway*, I just believe this sets a bad precedent and attention should be brought to it! Ty 4 Read ing.

Well, it was revoked due to a major balancing change. As it stands, it's the same as a denial, so I'd say this isn't really much of a concern.

Character auths can be revoked at any time, for any reason. Be it inactivity, getting banned, warned, etc. Or in this case, a major balancing rework which removed the ability to craft weapons entirely, from anyone.

By extension, this auth got revoked as well. This is nothing personal, but rather the consequence of us making gameplay adjustments to the server.

Is there anything else you'd like clarification on?

I never said it was anything personal, I said it's unfair on my end for it to be removed without an attempt to work with me (when I reached out, at least) to make this fall within the rules. For example, needing to get the table via a quest, very high crafting requirements, being replaced by something else other than crafting, so on and so forth.

I don't see it as different from a faction being removed (e.g. CMU) and then the chars being offered a transfer to a similar faction like CWU.

Closing this complaint.

Auths can be revoked for any reason and nobody is ever entitled to a permanent auth. Rule changes and balancing changes can cause auths to become useless or cause them to no longer be allowed to exist. We'd never make any progress if we had to look at every single character auth ever made before we adjusted balance or a rule. To imply that we must is utterly ridiculous. We simply can not, and will not ever do that. Character auths are NOT above the rules and never will be.

You are not being singled out, and this is not a targeted revoke of an auth. This is common sense with these sorts of things. Let alone the fact that it mattered little because you hadn't been on the server for ages during the time these rule/balance changes were implemented in the first place.

I hope that answers your concerns.
