I remember mom telling me once that letters we write get to heaven one way or another. That our guardian angels’ peek over our shoulders and scribble down whatever we write then ferry it onto you in heaven. Well, as a note for Mr. or Ms. Guardian Angel, please, please spice this letter up with your holy language or whatever. I need this to shine greater than I can ever for my big sister. I want this to reach her wherever she might be up there in the sky. Mama always said that no-one cries in heaven, but please Mr. or Ms. Guardian Angel let her shed some tears for old times’ sake.
So, sorry for that little opening rant. I need to get this together, proper and all, so…
…
The smell of burnt flesh permeated the air and weighed heavily on Ms. Guardian Angel’s being. A single day late, just one day, a single FUCKING day. What remained of Overwatch came and took Tabitha’s soul with them. Ms. Guardian Angel of hers clutched that letter to her chest and cried and cried.
“Tabitha!”
“Tabitha!”
She cried until her throat was hoarse, practically bleeding.
When she was done crying, she got on her knees.
“Father in Heaven, I am humbled by you and ask you to save my soul. When I’m finished here, sinning in a way that you could never forgive, please lord, please, please, please, let me see Tabitha one more time. Save my soul for a minute so her purpose is fulfilled. I’ve done my purpose, so please let her have hers.”
Ms. Guardian Angel of Tabitha took her sidearm, placed it in her mouth, and pulled the trigger.
Saving the world is pointless if the one you did it for is dead.

Dear Sister in Heaven,
I’m sorry we got into that fight before you went on your way to liberate City 42. It was really stupid, honestly. Not stupid in the sense I was wrong… cause like if you never went, you’d be here with me… but it was stupid I didn’t say something nice. You see, I thought you were the greatest fighter, so I tricked myself into believing you were bullet proof. It’s not that I thought you were going to die rolling into City 42 – no, I thought that I was going to die without you to protect me. Mr. or Ms. Guardian Angel must have been on leave for you that day, or maybe you made them mad.
But I don’t want to stay talking about that mistake. I want to talk about all the right things you did, but I need to remind you of those huge shoes you left for me to fill. Remember the days after the 7 Hour War? I thought you were insane at the time for joking about aliens coming from the sky, but in hindsight it’s all pretty ridiculous. You were even still making light of the situation when you were starving—forcing me to eat what little we collected. I’ll never get why you didn’t want to split it 50/50 so we’d get boney at the same rate—all ended the same though when we ended up in City 7. We both ended up being starved civies for a bit.
I think it was God keeping us together cause most families ended up separate. I don’t think the combine exactly pitied that you were all that I got, so I’m chalking it up to divine intervention. Our time in City 7, well, it was something else. You were creative, scheming, and really smart. Somehow you kept us fed and thriving as much as you could in a splinter ridden apartment (even picked those splinters out of my hand). It was not much, but enough to make neighbours jealous.
I’ll never understand how even at the end of the world (or it was the end of the world until Freeman) humans will still tear each other apart. I don’t remember the guys name but when he came for us and all we had—you… sinned. Thou shall not kill the bible says but you sinned to protect me. I’m sure God understands. I’m sure when you got to the pearly gates you explained yourself to him.
When I saw you standing above his body though, I thought that was the end. CP would come and toss us into a soup-can (or whatever they do to people). It shocked me when I learned you had a way out and even was working with The Risen (explains how you got me so much chocolate). How do you always have a way out but still end up dead in 42? I almost expect you to just “be caught up in traffic” and come back through the door any day now. But even then, I know you’re not weak like that. You’d do whatever to get through the traffic to get home first, so if you aren’t home now, then I don’t imagine you’ll ever be home.
Anyways, after you got us to the edge of City 7 where we’d be safe for a bit, that's when I learned about you, like the real you—Ms. Guardian Angel of mine. That’s when I was sure God put you in mom just to keep me alive. Remember what mama said? God has a plan for you, me, and all of us. So, what’s the plan for me? I’m just left here after we’re all free with no direction. All the guys around me somehow expect me to be just like you. We’re short on manpower so they have me come out with them to do supply runs. I’m much slower than you, but somehow, they still think we’re one in the same.
If the plan from God is to not be a saviour of Earth and protector of those around me, then what should it be? Do I have to make a reason? You never were quite religious, right? But you should be up in Heaven because I prayed for you every night. I asked God again and again that he would pardon you despite you taking his name in vain a few times. I think that might be my reason for Ms. Guardian Angel of mine. Yes, God put me here to save your soul.
So, now that you’re reading this up in Heaven, sipping sweet tea and singing hymns, please shed a few tears for me if you can be allowed to? I miss you sissy.
-Love Tabitha
