Paul Breen (he does not use his last name in any capacity but it is his) is an experiment, a breenchild. One among hundreds of children pulled from their mothers at the start of the invasion and raised under the direct tutelage of Wallace J. Breen. They were 'loved' by him and his staff in a special facility constructed along the American west coast.

All children in this camp were stripped of their last name. Once in there, they were all Breen. The idea was to create this massive family of loyal citizens, a family of Breen.

The project has a 94% failure rate with most breenchildren being anti-social, rejective to Union teachings, and prone to violent outbursts.
