View attachment 418571996, the birth of Emergency Containment.
During construction phases of Black Mesa, a force was formed incase nearby military could not respond, that being called Emergency Containment Response, Dr. ████████ ████████████ first brought this idea to the relative council of Black Mesa, it being accepted into a "Test Phase", seeing how immediate the E.C.R could react.

"P-R", One of the first members in this "test phase" force designed for Black Mesa.
His history spanning back to 1986 when he first enlisted into the Marines with a ten year contract due to the Iran-Iraq war, serving his full contract straight out of high school; soon getting the rank of Sergeant Major (E-9) before his contract soon ended, following his path back into civilization, finding it hard to seemingly "fit" back into society.

View attachment 41858
Getting contacted by Dr. ████████ ████████████ , a job opportunity opened for P-R, something which his skills could be heavily used in.

Attending training and briefing on the occupation a few days later, he was sold on the gig, attending day and day again, often not doing much work due to the very strict deploying requirements he was forced to follow, often seen walking around the facility with his heafty gear compared to general Black Mesa Security, days and soon months pass, P-R rarely leaving his desk at this point as months turn into years, being employed and promoted after the smallest containments.

Less and less use was being seen for Emergency Containment Response, being forced to stay at Black Mesa until neighboring facilities could see the usefulness of the E.C.R; even after years being forced to stay in a "Testing Phase".

I am glad you applied for this event. I have to admit that I'm quite impressed that you were bold enough to want to form your own subdivision of Black Mesa staff. But, there is too much redaction in your application which inhibits me from really understanding your character.

Your application has been accepted, but you will be bumped down to clearance level two for reasons pertaining to "public inebriation" on facility grounds.

BACKSTORY & CHARACTER DETAILS:

Sully's background is checkered to stay the least. Star quarter-back in high school. He quickly flunked out of Arizona State. Did some time in jail for assault. Then barely passed though community collage.

Sully got this job out of pure nepotism. With his father Sully Sr. persuading the admin to look over his sons past. He quickly, some would say too quickly, rose threw the ranks of security. With about a year ago getting promoted to Security Chief. Where he dose jack fucking shit.

Almost everyday after yelling as some new guy, he goes to his office or the guard station, and dose whatever the fuck he wants. Sleeping, eating, other things. Acting like a douche to his co-workers, Like he was still in high school.

Denied. This application is low quality, and does not meet the standards that are expected out of people who want to play characters of high value. Additionally, the grammatical errors in this are not what I expect.

You may reapply if you make a better application. But this is denied.

BACKSTORY

Samantha didn't quite plan on spending her career guarding hallways and checking ID badges. Born and raised in New Mexico, she had ideas of enlisting in the military, following in her older brother’s footsteps but more so because she couldn't fit in some places, with a tomboyish and brutish nature. She trained hard, prepped her application, and was just about ready to sign when she was approached by a friend on a night out.

After sharing a long talk in regards to their futures she was given a offer, Sam found herself in private security, he mentioned Black Mesa was hiring, and while she wasn’t sure about spending her days underground, the pay was too good to pass up.

At work, Sam is friendly, approachable, and always quick with a joke, she's easygoing with the members of the security team. She treats the job like a long shift at a mall cop gig, but deep down, she takes her responsibilities seriously. She’s good at reading people, and though she rarely throws her weight around, she knows when to step up if things get tense. She doesn’t know what the scientists are cooking up, and frankly, she doesn’t care. As long as she gets her paycheck and doesn’t have to pull her gun, she’s happy to clock in, do her rounds, and maybe sneak in a snack or two from the vending machines.
Denied. You do not play the server. I wish you wouldn't have left WN *again*, because I would have accepted this. Contact me on Discord if you want to appeal.

Sector Alpha (A)

Prof. Michael Calleway

<<<DISASTER RESPONSE PRIORITY>>>
Mandatory Evacuation and Coordination of Personnel

BACKSTORY & CHARACTER DETAILS
Born in Tamanique, El Salvador, Carlos can't remember too much of his past there, as the Ramírez family migrated to the United States of America while he was still a toddler.

After succesfully applying for a green card, Carlos and his family, consisting his jefa Marisol and Papá José, settled on the East-side of South Los Angeles, California.

While in High School, Carlos wasn't all to much interested in school, hanging around much with other kids from his neighborhood, leading him down a path of gang-banging. Dressed like a cholo, he spent his days drinking, smoking, tagging and ditching school—it became his daily routine. He had a special interest in firearms - Recklessly diving into the streets.

Following his father’s tragic death in a car crash, Carlos saw life through different eyes, searching desperately for a reason to exist in a country that he didn't truly see as home. His mother wept for weeks, pleading with him to change, and only then did he truly understand what it meant to be a man.

His father was a hardworking man, always urging Carlos to make something of himself—to avoid the backbreaking life on construction sites that had defined his own.

That loss became a turning point. No more skipping school. No more wasting time. He surrounded himself with ambitious friends and pushed himself relentlessly to earn his mothers biggest wish at that time- his high school diploma.

Through the connection of his passed father, he found his way into the private security business, working day in and day out to provide for his new home—a life shared with his son, Cruz, and Carlos' mother. His early marriage had ended in a divorce, but he fought for custody, determined to be there for his child as the childs mother didn't seem fit for it.

Years of dedication paid off. He not only built a stable career but also earned his license as a firearm instructor.

Then came an unexpected opportunity—another security job, but this time at a place called Black Mesa. A research facility, highly classified. The paycheck was more than he had ever hoped for. Without any hesitation, he took the job offer, unaware of what could come in the future.

Years had passed since he'd have been an employee of the Black Mesa research facility, working in the surveillance area- operating the cameras of the facility, opening doors and gates through the terminal, a usual and easy job.

Your application's structure is good. I enjoyed the character backstory. You were almost denied on grounds of using AI for creative elements of your application. Don't do this on any more events.

Accepted.

So what's the deal with this 'Morrison' guy?
The photograph gets chucked over the short distance in the bird. Caught.
Former DARPA. You know-

He whistles.
Shi-i-it. We're really going up in the world now! Think we're getting to try out some cool-ass guns? You know, like those huge ones in Alien.
Course we are! Why else are we getting sent: makin' sure they can handle HECU!
Some cackles and jeers from the grunts surrounding the two.
'As you can see, you are not dead!'
Far-more uproarious laughing this time, as they all remember that point in basic training.
Fuckin' dickhead- eh wait what the fuck's that?
The Lieutenant in their Osprey flicks his head to eye the creature closing in on Bloodhound Two. He screams in to his radio.
Bloodhound Two, swing wide- now, now! MacKenzie, on that tail-sixty! Papa Bear, open up our hatch!
The men act- the pilot swings without even knowing why, and veers his Osprey up and away from the manta ray. The soldiers secure themselves in their seats, while Private MacKenzie straps himself in to the M60 set up on the Osprey's rear.

It doesn't matter- because a rush of electricity fills the bird, and it plummets. For a brief moment, the radio fizzles, frequencies blending together in a haze of noise.

SUBJECT: Norman Wesley | 56 | MALE
EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in Zoology
POSITION: BLACK MESA SCIENCE TEAM | RESEARCHER
ASSIGNMENT: Xenian Ethology - Study of Extra-Terrestial behavior
CLEARANCE: 4
ADMINISTRATIVE SPONSOR: Senior Director of Exobiology Research, Klark Wirksley
DISASTER RESPONSE PRIORITY: Advised

Being born shortly after World War II, life hasn't been easy for Norman, he was forced to endure an aggressive father who developed multiple mental disorders while he served.
He found his comfort in time spent with his mother and friends.
As he grew, during school breaks Norman found solace at the courtyard which was surrounded by a dense forest. He often sat at the benches or beneath a tree and - Breathe. He listened to the sizzling leaves moved by the wind, the sound of the water running free in a nearby creek, but what fascinated him the most were the inhabitants of the forest - the animals.
Norman observed the creatures in the forest and noticed things most wouldn't pay attention to, others would see them as just "Animals". He was fascinated by the ways in which animals show each other emotions and affection - How similar at times they could be to us, for a strange reason, it brought him hope.

As he grew older, his parents urged him to continue his education, so he applied to a university that expanded on his interests. University was difficult, but he pushed on. Eventually, through a recruitment program at his school, he was sent on a field practice to the New Mexico desert. There, he met his instructor, Klark Wirksley, who soon became his friend. Klark noticed Norman's passion and offered him a job under his supervision as soon as he finished school.

Interested in Klarks proposition, Norman did just so and applied for a position at the Facility, his application got accepted after Klark dropped a few good words of him.
The job wasn't neccessarily something he loved doing, but sure did offered a good pay, he got attached to it and over the years grew in ranks.
Accepted at clearance 3.

SUBJECT: Jimmy (Jimbo) Ryder, 21, Male
EDUCATION: High School graduate
POSITION: Custodian | Facility Staff
ASSIGNMENT: Building Maintence and Sanitation
CLEARANCE: 1
ADMINISTRATIVE SPONSOR: Head Custodian, Bobby G. Redwood
DISASTER RESPONSE PRIORITY: Minimal

BACKSTORY & CHARACTER DETAILS: Being a typical fella out of Albequerqe, New Mexico, he had spent most of his time jumping from small job to small job in the early teens of his life while staying in a group home until he was 18. Named Jimmy Ryder by his foster parents and nicknamed Jimbo to many, he lives his life as a charasmatic fool, naive in nature but uses his wacky characteristics to joke around with people. Although he plays the part of an innocent moron for entertainment, he's able to shut it up when needed.

As for how he got his position, through luck or fate, he managed to meet the Head Cusodian at Black Mesa during his day off. They interacted at a local bar and eventually, work was mentioned in the conversation. Black Mesa was interested in more janitor workers at the time due to a recent accident freeing up a few spots. With a request and reviewing, Jimbo was eventually accepted into the facility as a simple Custodian intern. Oh yeah, he's fresh.

Jimbo can be described to have slicked back dark brown hair, a lightly stubbled face, tanned skin and green eyes. He has a slim body build to him and stands at 5'7. Always walks around with a pep in his step, like he's contantly going somewhere important.

(I don't know how ya'll be making authentic Black Mesa cards but those be peak characters)

Really short, but the clearance fits. Accepted!

INCIDENT SYNOPSIS:

On ████-██-██, Survey Team "Magellan" was deployed from Observation Outpost "Athena" to continue efforts
of mapping out the neighboring sector for a new teleportation zone, as well as repairing a critical uplink antenna. The expedition was expected to last roughly 3-4 hours, with no expected interference with any lifeforms within the area.

At 16:38 MST, an unexpected storm emerged in the area, which caused a dimensional rift, disrupting communications and furthermore, caused severe psychological affects, particularly mass hysteria among the Team. Dr. Mercer was found discharging his weapon in a panic, despite orders against it. Furthermore, Dr. Mercer, ignoring directives, focused on repairing the uplink antenna, when he himself was attacked by local fauna. Once the storm had passed, it was discovered that Dr. ███████ ███ (The Team's Theoretical Physics Consultant), was found deceased, splitting up from the group after hearing the gunshots, and dying from local fauna and environmental exposure. Retreating back to the Outpost, with Dr. ███'s body, all members returned with varying degrees of injuries, especially with Dr. Mercer, who suffered severe blunt-force trauma and neurological disorientation.

Once the Team returned from Xen, an argument ensued between Team Leader, Dr. ███████ and Dr. Mercer, who accused him of disobedience and questioned his firearm credentials. After Security intervened, all parties were brought to the Black Mesa Medical Wing for evaluation.

Computer shutdown.

I remember when I first hopped on my projects for Xen Exploration. Mapping out the mobile habitats, the 3D models for new plated armor protection for the HEV Suit...
...All I wanted was some application, not just stuck in theory with everyone else. But now I have bigger problems. I need to deal with somehow explaining how I attended a multi-day Firearms evaluation without being witnessed by anyone. To deal with this constant pain in my arm; to deal with my old colleagues who I so easily looked down upon when I jumped ship from Research to the Survey Team....

Maybe, I didn't appreciate being a researcher enough.
But maybe there's an opportunity for some redemption.

Or just maybe, I was just out of my depth.

ADMINISTRATIVE SPONSOR:

Former Head-Janitor, Joey Schmoe

DISASTER RESPONSE PRIORITY: (Minimal, Marginal, Discretionary, Advised, Mandatory)

Minimal

BACKSTORY & CHARACTER DETAILS:

Rodney is part of a Polish-Canadian immigrant family, the third generation of which had always been poor, even after they had traveled away from Europe in search of better lives, seemingly never able to make a real fortune. Rodney's father, however, attempted to change that by creating a janitorial company. The main business involved going to stores or homes to clean for those who were simply too lazy. When Rodney reached the age of 10, his father started taking him along to these small jobs. To Rodney's surprise, he had an amazing time cleaning every last bit of rooms and backyards. Something about it made him feel like this was what he was born to do. Eventually, his father retired from the small family company, making Rodney the new owner. He soon began to properly expand the company, successfully turning it into one of the most well-known janitorial companies in Canada, and even gaining some recognition in the United States. Despite their lower fame in the southern regions of Canada, they still had a solid reputation for their professional cleaning services and well-trained employees. Rodney had seemingly climbed to the stars. Despite making immense profits from the business, he decided to let most of the money flow to the janitors rather than to himself. Of course, he had still brought his family out of the lower class into the middle class, but he didn’t want to stand directly in the spotlight. One day, he was contacted via email to personally expand his services to a neat little research facility. Today, he manages his little company from the facility, taking great pride in what he does. Even writing a book or song about cleaning from time to time. He is a friendly and joyful presence in the facility's cold corridors. What could ever go wrong in this success story?

What is this?

The colors on this application are horrible. But everything else is okay. Don't do this again. Accepted.

SUBJECT: Glenn Gosford, 26, Male
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in History
POSITION: Independent Contractor - File Clerk/Systems Analyst
ASSIGNMENT: Sector D Administration
CLEARANCE: 2 (4? Whichever's lower.)
ADMINISTRATIVE SPONSOR: Bruce Brennan, General Manager
DISASTER RESPONSE PRIORITY: Marginal

BACKSTORY & CHARACTER DETAILS:
Glenn was one of many that had responded to a newspaper ad in New Mexico, mentioned something about file organization in a science facility in the area. He decided to send in his resume and cover letter, not thinking too much of it at the time. He had graduated some years back, but his prospects of getting a job as a historian hadn't improved any in the years since. Instead, he relied on his fast typing skills and eye for organizing folders and such, which were certainly exceptional yet mundane talents to have in the nineties.

Imagine his surprise when he was offered a gig in the facility despite his outsider status. Perhaps it helped that many other ads for the same position had formatting or spelling errors of some kind, or maybe his just stuck out in some other way. Glenn packed up most of his belongings in a basic suitcase and moved into the dormitories provided by Black Mesa, opting to wear a basic short-sleeved blue shirt, brown leather belt and black pants to work, trying to dress as professionally as he thought he was meant to.

In short, he was a very lucky, if average, individual, only managing to get work inside a science facility when he couldn't find any other job anywhere else.

[FRANCHISE OWNER JEVONNE WATKINS, CIRCA 1996]
BACKSTORY & CHARACTER DETAILS:
Jevonne Watkins, born on ■■■■■■, lived as a nobody in the shadow of his father. Downtown Chicago's crime rate, especially in murders and homicide, began to rise from the decade before in the early 1950's. Poor and downtrodden, the Watkins family ran out of luck quick along with the neighborhood: school funding dropped, stores began to relocate, etc. Nevertheless, Jevonne and his father - an only child and a single father - found solace in their own home. He took the time to take care of his son as best he could while working his full-time job, even enrolling his kid into school nevertheless the circumstances.

Fast forwarding a decade and some, Jevonne now stood on the precipice of graduation. Top of his class, one of the most brilliant kids in the school he had been. His class' graduation ceremony occurred not but two weeks behind him before his father, amidst his work, fell due to a stroke. No more was his immediate family but himself as his father passed en route to the hospital. Rent and bills piled, and his father's job gave no severance package to a dead man. The man who was once college-bound found himself now working overtime at a local restaurant chain just to meet his father's salary.

For years, the man worked himself. Sleepless night after sleepless night passed; however, his dedication waivered naught. Shy of three year's work, corporate desperately approached Jevonne with a management position - a singular store, along with three other managers given the fourth had quit recently. He hesitantly accepted, so long as it meant getting away from dish cleaning for five minutes. Despite this new position of power, he felt dissatisfied: this was a dead-end job and a tiny management position at a fast food chain. He needed something that his father would be proud of; and, eventually, opportunity came knocking.

While Mr. Watkins, prior to his father's unfortunate passing, did have a desire for higher education, it was impossible given his financial situation. Just when this darkness burrowed its way into his soul, a blinding light entered his mailbox: a full-ride scholarship. The University of New Mexico sought after capable people willing to relocate for recompensation - they must have been looking for people with management experience, otherwise Jevonne receiving this letter specifically couldn't have been a coincidence. Looking at his neighborhood - his past decade-plus home - he made the rough choice to resign both his job and apartment to move out to a New Mexico dormitory.

Four years passed, and his GPA - just like high school - thrived above a three-point-five and higher. The man had fiery passion in his heart for whatever he set it to, and his diploma all but jumped directly into his hands: a bachelor's in business management. Within weeks, he found another local restaurant chain looking for hire. He wouldn't be counting pickles on a burger, however. This time, he would be counting profit margins for the three locations the franchise owned. The corporation that oversaw the franchise in New Mexico watched his trial run. Within months, his position solidified.

Never was he content with his stores, though. Corporate watched as, over the course of a mere ten years, he rose profits the old franchise owner could never accomplish. Jevonne himself approached other franchises around the New Mexico area and worked out deals - mergers and the like. By the end of his decade of employment, he oversaw nine stores spanning from corner to corner in the Land of Enchantment. Every store's general manager reported to him, directly, every other week: the employees, the stock and the state of the store itself was his top priority.

At the turn of aforementioned decade, another entity proceeded to request a meeting concerning Mr. Watkins and his franchise. The discussion spoke not of a new merger, however, but rather a new position of power. He himself, if he accepted, would travel along with the suited men to one of the best research facilities in America - not one of the best known ones, of course. After a decade of the same back-and-forth grind, the thought of a new position and fresh start sat firmly upon the top of his mind. In that meeting, he shook hands with the two men. Off he went.

A new owner replaced him at the old franchise above ground as he headed below. They took the man along a tour of the minimal-clearance areas, especially to his new base of operations: the cafeterias. The men bestowed upon him near-full autonomy of his new authority within the facility. All he had to do was keep his eyes, ears and mouth shut, save for his work, and report to the head of logistics every so often. A franchise owner reporting to a corporate entity - this was a clone of his above-ground life. Within days, the lab nerds and inhabitants saw an increase of positive quality of life changes within their eating spots.

A fiery heart brings a fiery passion.

*I wasn't sure if I could give him clearance two instead of one because of his connections - all the scientists eating at his places, he's know a thing or two by eavesdropping. I still put one just in-case, but two would be pretty sweet.

Physical Description:
Dr. med. Hailey Bay is a female doctor, age 29, standing at around 162cm. She has red hair, usually tied back, and is of American descent. Hailey has blue eyes, and a noticeable lisp. Her lab coat is in a well-kept state - however her ID, that is attached to her coat, is not. On the ID, her clearance level of "3" is crossed out with a red marker, and instead, has a "2" roughly written next to it, slightly slanted. She has a remarkably bad posture, with a slightly hunched back.

Backstory:
She never stopped thinking about the future, and "what could be". As many children, she had a knack for astronomy. Something being out there, beyond our own planet, always seemed to fascinate her. This wore off around high school. Instead, she garnered a new interest - Biology.

It provided her just what she was looking for. She loved getting a "Do-It-Yourself" science kit from her parents, and every time, would feel like she was transported to a new world. There was a lot to research, and unlike astronomy, it was achievable without having to build a rocket first. With this, she pursued Biology, more precisely Pharmacology. Being able to alter the body & the mind with pharmaceuticals was fascinating to her.

Hailey met Dr. Paul Ekkman at the University of Colorado Denver, while pursuing her PhD. During a group research project that Dr. Ekkman was overseeing, he found Hailey's way of thinking and her methods of research fascinating. Her brain runs faster than her mouth, whenever she tries to explain something she ends up drifting to other topics related to whatever she's talking about. She talks very quickly, and can be hard to understand with her lisp. There was a flaw about her, though. Hailey is clumsy. Extremely clumsy, and while she can do very precise work, you wouldn't want to trust her keeping your sample uncontaminated.

Still, he saw potential. Dr. Ekkman had prior connections to the Black Mesa Research Facility, most notably with Dr. Richard Keller. Once she finished her PhD, he immediately directed her towards Dr. Keller, handing her a recommendation, and securing her an interview. This was incredibly sudden for Hailey, considering she didn't even know this was happening, and it's a LONG way from Denver to New Mexico. This was, however, her moment to shine.

She was, practically, guaranteed to get the job, however she completely messed up the interview. Here's a passage from it;

Dr. ()§)$/§)=%: Alright, Hailey. Please visualize this. I would give you a sample of a spore molecule. Detail your process in an experiment in which you'd isolate and sequence a protein from it.

Hailey Bay: Okay, so, like, I'd take the sample, with, like, you know, not my hands, maybe a pair of tongs or with gloves, and I'd crush it in a lysis buffer. So, that would crack open the cells and the, uh, I mean, get the proteins out. Then I would spin it in a centrifuge, to, you know, remove the gooey stuff, and use a gel electrophoresis thing to get the protein I really want. I'd need to chop the protein with enzymes..

Hailey awkwardly performs a motion, in which she hacks something with her hands.

Hailey Bay
: And run it through a mass spectrometer. I guess I could, uhh, figure out the amino acid sequence, yes! Phew, that was good right?

She started working at Black Mesa in 1997. She started with a clearance of level 3, however was bumped down to 2. Her clumsy nature has provided some interesting new guidelines for facility staff to follow.

Accepted.

PERSONNEL APPLICATION – ANOMALOUS MATERIALS DIVISION

60f4aede33a585ea4d7f4fcc21e84d52d7799e71.jpg

SUBJECT: Dr. Bill Hensley | 34 | Male
EDUCATION:
➔ PhD in Theoretical Physics – Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
➔ MSc in Quantum Mechanics – University of Cambridge
➔ BSc in Physics – University of California, Berkeley

POSITION:
Research Scientist
– Anomalous Materials Division

ASSIGNMENT:
▪️ Tasked with leading Project CHORUS, an experimental initiative aimed at studying the harmonic properties of exotic materials recovered from anomalous events.
▪️ Primary responsibility involves isolating and amplifying harmonic frequencies to identify the materials' potential for energy production and dimensional manipulation.
▪️ Early tests showed promising energy yields, but unexpected fluctuations in resonance fields have raised concerns about unintended cross-dimensional interaction.
▪️ Bill’s most recent findings suggest that the materials may not be purely reactive, but possibly responsive — exhibiting patterns of feedback that resemble intentional communication.
▪️ Despite mounting pressure from senior leadership to publish findings, Bill has begun withholding data after noticing irregularities in how the project is being monitored.

CLEARANCE: LEVEL 4
ADMINISTRATIVE SPONSOR: Dr. Harold Weathers (Classified)
DISASTER RESPONSE PRIORITY: DISCRETIONARY

PERSONNEL BACKGROUND

"The problem with understanding the universe is that, eventually, it starts looking back."

Dr. Bill Hensley was born with a mind wired for patterns. His parents, both decorated physicists, encouraged this early, putting complex mathematical problems in front of him before he could fully grasp the concept of play. There was never any question about where Bill was going; the only uncertainty was how fast he’d get there.

By 12, Bill was solving university-level physics problems. By 16, he was at Berkeley. By 21, he was publishing papers on quantum harmonic resonance that top physicists were struggling to understand. His mind was a precision instrument, a razor blade cutting through the noise of the universe. But sharp instruments tend to draw blood, even if unintentionally.

Bill wasn’t socially neglected. He was socially unprepared. Conversations were a puzzle he couldn’t solve. His directness often came off as cold or arrogant, but the truth was that Bill never understood the rules of human connection. He knew how to measure the rotational velocity of a neutron star but couldn’t tell you why a colleague was upset after a meeting. It didn’t matter. His work defined him.

After MIT, Bill received several offers from defense contractors, but he turned them down. The idea of using his mind to build weapons repulsed him. Black Mesa, however, was different. Scientific discovery without political strings, that was the pitch. And Dr. Harold Weathers was persuasive. "This is the future of humanity," Weathers had said. "We need you, Dr. Hensley." Bill didn’t believe in patriotism, but he believed in progress.

Bill took the job and quickly made a name for himself in the Anomalous Materials Division. His ability to predict and stabilize quantum resonance fields made him indispensable. He was quiet, efficient, and terrifyingly intelligent. Senior staff respected him. Colleagues kept their distance. Bill’s lack of warmth wasn’t personal. He simply preferred the company of equations.

But lately, the equations have stopped making sense.

At first, it was small discrepancies, decimal points out of place, harmless enough. Then came the resonance spikes, sharp pulses of energy that didn’t correspond with any known input. Bill started running simulations off the record, working late at night. He began to notice things, patterns in the data that looked… deliberate. Fractal structures repeating across dimensions.

And then the humming started.

At first, he thought it was an electrical fault, but then it followed him. In the lab, in the elevator, even at home, a low, droning hum, just beneath the threshold of hearing. He’s heard whispers too, not words, just sounds. Clicking noises. A rhythmic pulse. He’s told no one. He knows what happens to people who talk too much at Black Mesa.

Bill’s started sleeping less. When he does sleep, the dreams are violent and cold. Flashes of light. Walls collapsing inward. A figure standing at the end of a hallway, featureless and waiting. He’s woken up more than once with nosebleeds and static ringing in his ears. Last week, he ripped the phone out of his office wall because it wouldn’t stop ringing. The thing is, the call log was empty.

He’s been carrying a screwdriver in his coat pocket. Just in case.

The anomalies are getting worse. He’s tracked the spikes. They’re building toward something. A crescendo. He’s seen the graphs. He’s heard the hum beneath the resonance field.

Bill’s not sure if he’s going insane or if he’s the only one finally seeing the truth.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE

LIKES: Classical music, theoretical models, late-night work sessions, control.
DISLIKES: Small talk, incompetence, disorder, surprises, the hum.
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Brilliant, detached, hyper-analytical, increasingly paranoid.
KNOWN ISSUES:
▪️ Obsessive tendencies – Bill struggles to disconnect from his work.
▪️ Paranoia – Increasing suspicion of senior staff and project leadership.
▪️ Emotional detachment – Struggles with empathy and interpersonal communication.
▪️ Stress-induced hallucinations – Unconfirmed but likely.

Bill’s colleagues describe him as cold but dependable. Recently, though, they’ve started avoiding him in the hallways. His eyes are sharper. His conversations shorter. He’s been caught talking to himself more than once, his hands fidgeting with the screwdriver in his pocket.

Lately, Bill has stopped turning off his office lights when he leaves for the night.

He’s been copying data to a separate drive, encrypted and hidden beneath layers of mislabelled files. A technician reported seeing Bill standing in front of the resonance chamber at 3 AM, no reason given. When security confronted him, he said he was “taking measurements.” His lab coat was soaked through with sweat.

Bill doesn’t care if they’re watching him now. He’s already seen what’s coming.

NOTABLE QUOTE:

"If I die, check the resonance logs. And maybe don’t open any strange doors."

PERSONAL HABITS:

✅ Drinks black coffee, no sugar.
✅ Often listens to Bach and Beethoven while working, recently added static recordings to his playlist.
