Authorization Guidelines

Introduction:

Character Authorization
Character Authorization is where you can request authorization for characters that you can not normally make in-game without spending a large amount of time on the server and within the community itself. Character auths may allow you to make characters that are stronger than average, allow crazy backstories, get characters made for specific mini events/storylines, or generally just create a character that stands out from the rest.

Roleplay Authorization
Roleplay Authorization is where you can request an authorization for an item or thing to be custom-created in-game for your character/group, which will bring around roleplay. This involves heavy roleplay where you create the thing that you want to have authorized before the application. An example is where an item doesn't have a specific recipe in-game. The difference is that Character Auths focus more on the Character, while Roleplay Auths will bring an item around that can be used in roleplay.

Creating such apps isn't hard; it's just that we have a few rules and general guidelines you should be aware of when creating a character application.

General Auth rules:

When it comes to applications, we have a few rules that you need to follow and be aware of:
  1. You may reapply for character authorization if it was previously denied, provided at least two (2) weeks have passed since your initial application and there was no explicit indication in the denial that future applications will not be accepted.
  2. Wait for your application to be responded to; do not ping staff to review your app. Pop a DM or send a message through convo if you have been waiting for more than a week.
  3. Do not copy other character authorizations; any form of plagiarism will be looked down upon. Keep your character unique in its own way.
  4. Please make an effort to stick to the application format found on this thread. Adding additional information is fine as long as the format is followed overall.
  5. You may not apply for loyalist tiers or social credit increases, unless granted permission before writing the authorization by CCA leadership.
  6. Commenting on an auth application should be kept to a minimum, unless valuable suggestions/information can be put forth.
  7. Authorizations may be SOFT accepted, where the accepted individual will trial the authorization for a brief period. The Authorization Team may remove or fully accept the authorization at any time.
  8. Authorizations may be denied if your roleplay ability does not meet a certain standard.
  9. Authorizations may be denied by the Authorizations Team without a specific explanation at the time of denial. If it was not stated that future applications will be denied, please refer to Rule #1.

What do we not allow to be requested in Auths?:
There are a few general things you should know before making an application:
  1. We do not allow the use or creation of characters from Black Mesa or Aperture. This is a touchy subject, and we would rather not have BM characters walking about.
  2. Major boosts to skills are not allowed.
  3. Requesting items UNLESS you do a roleplay authorization, which you have the materials to create such powerful equipment. Ie. Bombs/Larger Explosives. This will be a difficult task, and a lot of roleplay will need to be put into creating such items.
  4. Creating famous characters or creating powerful characters on or near the level of Gordon Freeman is not a request we take lightly and will most likely be denied. Keep your character relative to the world of HL2RP and do not go overboard.
  5. Do not request too many things at once; try to keep your requests for a character down to a reasonable amount. Aim for 1-2 requests per application.
  6. Requesting characters that may step on the toes of factions and their leads is not permitted, unless given express permission beforehand by faction leadership to write the authorization in question.
  7. Changes to attributes are not allowed under any circumstances. These are permanent upon character creation.
  8. Any auths that bypass intended game mechanics will be automatically denied. This includes, but isn't limited to: Removing spores in certain parts of the map or hiding armour underneath other items of clothing.
  9. Language authorizations must be requested prior to character creation and will not be granted retroactively.

General list for what requires an Auth

There is a general set of questions you can follow in order to understand whether or not something requires being Auth'd on via a char/rp auth here on the forums.

- Do you want to make a special character?
- Are you wishing for a skill or otherwise unattainable knowledge?
- (Meaning, skills/knowledge which can not be acquired ICly through normal means.)
- Is what being auth'd considered special?
- How "big" is the auth. (This means it is what is being asked large scale, something that would require a long process of consideration?)
- And finally, is this something ET/Staff could handle in-game? (For most things, more than likely not based on what you are asking for)
Character Authorizations are heavily recommended for characters that are impossible/nearly-impossible in the setting or for individuals who wish to start with particular items for the character. This can be anything from vengeful mass murderers, jihadists from Afghanistan, for example. Roleplay Authorizations are recommended for things that you cannot achieve in-game with the normal systems in place. I.e.. Crafting a shank.

There is almost no limitation regarding what characters can be authorized here. However, character authorizations cannot be used to bypass rules regarding character creation. Refer to such rules first, before submitting an authorization, as violating them will result in immediate denial.

Due to the Freedom Policy, individuals can create characters as they wish. However, without authorization, the characters will likely be heavily questioned by the members of the staff team. One can create an Afghan Jihadist, but this very same character in the middle of a city in Europe? No, the character is nearly impossible in the setting and will need a valid justification for existing.

Often, you will be directed towards this format after creating a character, since the staff team will likely be confused by your character. If this occurs, then it is well advised to fill out this format unless you want your character adjusted due to a nearly impossible backstory.

Ultimately, of course, the primary purpose of Character Authorizations is to create/justify permanent characters. Event characters need not apply to the same restrictions as permanent characters and do not need to use this process unless the character is no longer temporary.

Additionally, character authorizations do not mean that the character is immortalized or given a special, specific form of treatment. If the character dies through the proper in-character circumstances, the character is lost.

Roleplay Authorizations focus more on what you are creating to provide roleplay; you can create what you wish, but you do require an authorization if you wish for the thing to be more permanent in the world. A reminder that these aren't just for items, this authorization can be used to change some differences in the map through player-based roleplay.
