This event will conclude The Long March
With the intel found at THETA, a plan has been formed to surgically strike at the reactor in a surprise attack. Exploiting a small weakness in the Combine's logistic network, a backdoor towards the reactor has been found, creating the opportunity for a group of rebels to strike at the very heart of the Citadel. The Device recently recovered from CERN ensures that a controlled explosion of the reactor will face sufficient resonance interference to prevent any meaningful portal from opening. This leaves the resistance with multiple choices on how to neuter the reactor:
- Execute a two-fronted attack to disable the fueling system by hitting both the fuel towers and control room at the same time. A more complex plan which avoids major damage to the reactor.
- Trigger a reactor meltdown to allow using the emergency stasis protocol to attempt at stopping a full explosion. A risky strategy that won't be easy to pull off, and critically damage the reactor, but leave the Citadel intact and undefended.
- Sacrifice themselves by trigger a reactor meltdown and forcing it into an explosion. Likely the easiest approach, at the cost of the lives of those carrying out the attack, and the potential for critical damage to City 24's remaining infrastructure.
- ???
To be extremely clear on the conditions surrounding this event:
- We do NOT expect everyone who played in TLM to attend this. It is up to you and your character whether or not you wish to participate. It is one ending to TLM, the one that we initially had in mind when writing TLM. But that doesn't mean it has to be the ending for your character - you are free to have your character go their own way and write up your own ending.
- There is a significant chance your character will not survive this trip: beyond the usual danger of the Combine, there is the obvious potential for a Reactor explosion to kill everyone present. IC'ly this mission has been labeled a 'suicide mission'. Although there are clear ways to survive the ordeal, it should be clear to everyone going that they are buying a one-way ticket. Survival is entirely secondary to ensuring the neutralization of the reactor, even if that involves a complete reactor meltdown.
