EARLY-LIFE
Charlie North was born on the 1st of November, 1984 at 3:37AM in the city of Gothenburg. Due to birth complications, his mother, Camila North, died shortly after giving birth to Charlie - much to the dismay of his father, Dylan North and his brother, [REDACTED].

During his early childhood years, Charlie took an interest in Art and Writing. He would frequently create drawings with captions attached to them, telling some semblance of a story - with varying degrees of quality. It was through sharing these stories at Kindergarten that he met his childhood best friend, Mikael. Together, they would collaborate on stories and share art. Their bond was rather strong and the two grew closer as they grew up together.

TEEN YEARS
Charlie had faced many struggles during his teenage years, often getting into conflict with his father over his grades in school. His brother, [REDACTED] would often get higher grades in most subjects, while Charlie only excelled in a few, such as English, Art and History. Charlie also had to deal with the ire of Mikael's parents, as they had begun dating after turning 14. Mikael's parents did not approve of this relationship, and they took every opportunity to remind both Charlie and Mikael. Amgonst this conflict, Charlie managed to stay motivated, pushing through school while honing his art and writing skills. In 1999, shortly after turning 15, Charlie finished his first novel - a book called "The Long Road Home", in which a young girl gets lost in an infinite forest and has to find her way back home. After the novel was met with positive reviews by his peers, he got to work on writing two sequels to "The Long Road Home", effectively making it a trilogy series.

He finished the two sequel books, shortly after he left school at 17 years of age in 2001. He was preparing to pitch the books to a large publisher, but during the trip to the publishing office, Earth began to shake violently as green portals started appearing, spilling out creatures from another world. Large portal storms started to flood the sky as he rushed home, grabbing his father, brother and boyfriend before fleeing into the countryside. They settled down in an old cabin that belonged to their father in an old forest, bringing enough supplies with them to last a few months - which they slowly burned through as chaos errupted in the streets back in Gothenburg. It was clear to them the world had changed, but why? What could be the cause of such apocalyptic events? They didn't know. But to them, one thing was certain, things would never be the same...

In the intervening years, Charlie, Mikeal, Dylan and [REDACTED] would roam from place to place, setting up camps and living off the land - relying on both their own crops and whatever creatures they could hunt for sustenance. It was not the ideal life for Charlie, neither for the rest of the group. But due to the portal storms that continued to errupt across the planet, they didn't really have a choice if they wanted the best chance of survival.

For Charlie, the events of The Seven Hour War were blurry, unclear. Only snippets of them moving from camp-to-camp in order to evade the invading forces. One thing he does remember very clearly, is being boarded onto a train by roaming Combine forces two years after The Seven Hour War had ended. However, Mikael was not permitted to board with them, instead being boarded onto a different train - inbound for what would later become The Combine's capital city, City 17. Needless to say, Charlie was devestated, never to truly recover from the pain and loss of that day. Even today, he still thinks of Mikael, and what became of him. As for Charlie and his family, they were sent off to the nearest City from where they were captured...

NOTE: SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AS MIKAEL BERG, A.K.A C17:RANGER-2. LAST KNOWN LOCATION: CITY 40, TRANSFERRED FROM CITY 17, DISTRICT 47

It didn't take long for Charlie and his family to settle down in City 62. The North household would often come to Turku for family holidays, so they knew their way around. It was hard for them to get used to, seeing the large Combine infrastructure tear through their favourite restaurants, their favourite park. All of it, completely and utter disregarded by The Combine. The snowy weather didn't help either, citizens of City 62 were issued Combine-branded winter jackets, with Charlie, Dylan and [REDACTED] being no exception. After they had settled into their new apartment, they quickly got to work in being an asset to The Combine, attending workshifts, doing odd-jobs on the streets. As such, they quickly racked up a steady amount of Social Credits. Dylan North enlisted into Civil Protection after obtaining Tier Three status, while Charlie and [REDACTED] were employeed as Civil Worker's Union workers. Everything went swimmingly for the next nine years, Dylan was promoted to Rank Leader after eight years of service, Charlie was being paid well and bringing home loyalist rations for the whole family to share... Well, he would have shared them with his brother, if he wasn't sneaking out every night. Soon after Dylan was promoted to Rank Leader, it was discovered that Civil Worker's Union supplies were going missing. When City 62 Civil Protection checked the surveillance systems, they found that [INFORMATION REDACTED].

Soon afterward, Charlie had to say goodbye to his father, as he was being transferred off to City 17. As a parting gift, Dylan gave Charlie a sketchbook with a pack of fresh new pencils. Charlie used the sketchbook to doodle on the train ride to 17, wondering if he would ever see his father again. He concluded then and there that the only way they could see each other is if he follow in his father's footsteps.

Shortly after arriving at District 47, Charlie enlisted into the local Civil Protection force. After being chosen, he was taken in by ROLLER-0, the then Rank Leader of the ROLLER squad. He quickly formed bonds with other units, Such as VICTOR-4 (Now VICTOR-0). Due to the fact that his father, Dylan is a Civil Protection officer, he knew a bit more than he should have, allowing him to perform diligently in the force - and as such, stood out amongst his peers, earning him the rank of i3. Charlie, now known as ROLLER-1 seemed to blessed by Lady Luck herself, always managing to get in and out of sticky situations, even if it meant getting a few scars along the way. Being held hostage in the hospital, shot in the gut, attacked by waves and waves of Antlions, it didn't seem to stop ROLLER-1. Him being able to see his father again was the fuel to his determination.

Shortly after sociostability was lost in District 47, ROLLER-1, along with the rest of the CP force and citizens, were evacuated onto a train. Not before being shot at with a shotgun, of course.

City 24 is now where Charlie North resides, serving as a Rank Leader in Civil Protection. He was promoted after the previous ROLLER Rank Leader for mysteriously relocated to City One for unknown reasons. A fate worse than death, to some.

ROLLER-0 takes his time to keep his squad healthy, while still drawing and writing in his free time. Whenever he has to go off duty, he sometimes says he has paperwork to file. While he is sometimes required to file out paperwork, it's usually an excuse for him to go and work on his art or writings, a hobby which he has not shared with other units.
As for his future, he is not certain - but really - is anyone certain of their future? One thing is for sure though, his story is far from over...

"Once a citizen, always a citizen. At least, that's what I think. Honestly, it's hard pinning down one universal opinion for citizens - each one is different and unique. I suppose most of them are alright. Some of them can be crazy wack jobs, some will step out of line, some are just downright annoying. Regardless, we're all stuck in the same boat together, so we might as well try to get along and come to an understanding with one another, right?"

"The backbone of the city. I respect these guys and appreciate their hard work. Being a former member myself, I have a good understand of how they operate, and the kind of jobs that they do. Most Civil Workers I meet are nice, polite and outgoing people - and I doubt that will change anytime soon. So good on you guys!"

"Look, I get it. I really do. You miss the old days, you think The Combine are evil, here to oppress us and suck us dry of everything we have. But really, fighting fire with fire will do humanity no good. This is something you fail - even outright refuse to realise. You terrorize the streets and make life harder for the people you claim to be liberating. And for what? For this so called "freedom" that you've conjured up in your minds? You're delusional."

"The backbone of The Combine's presence here on Earth. These guys are tough, and I've gotten in trouble with them once. It wasn't very pleasant. Transhuman soldiers used to frighten me - who could blame someone for being afraid of their hefty weapons and bulky armor. It would take a lot of bullets to pierce through that vest, I reckon. Nowadays, I'm not really too afraid of them anymore, that fear has long since faded. Now, I am able to apperciate and respect their work, as they are the ones who usually deal with the more annoying and dangerous threats. However, the thought of the augmentation process they go through still sends shivers down my spine..."

"Must be nice, huh? To sit up in the fancy offices and have your every need catered to while we patrol the streets and do all the heavy lifting? I hate having to do paperwork, but you guys must love it... It's all you do all day, right? I suppose I can't blame you... If I were offered an easy job for being a lapdog, I would have took it as well. Being paid to wear a fancy suit and prance about the offices sounds like a good life. My personal bias aside, I guess you're a pretty important connection between us and The Combine. Without Breen's interference, we wouldn't be here right now."
