How many characters do you have?:

Two. This application is for one of those characters.

What do you want authorization for?:

  1. A character with a military background. While the grasp of the Combine is that of an iron fist, there are always gaps to slip through. No, I do not want to play a John Rebel who kills Combine and doesn't afraid of anything.
  2. A dog tag or some other kind of trinket from time in service; a purely IC item requiring no script.
  3. A small increase to Guns skill, perhaps +5 at most. This point is entirely optional and to the discretion of the reviewer of this authorization.
  4. Fluency in the Navajo language. This is an entirely IC thing; I know it doesn't mechanically exist.

Character(s) you're requesting authorization for:

Cheyenne Tsosie.

How beneficial to your own RP and the servers is your authorization?:

For my own RP's sake, it means playing a character concept that I enjoy; that of a highly traumatized survivor who can either rise above what they are or fall even further into a self-destructive cycle. In the case of Half-Life in particular, one of the better fits is an idealist who took a public service role--a soldier, a cop, a firefighter, something like that--and was left defeated in every possible way when they were most needed. As for the server, if anyone gets immersed by such a character, that is my hope. More than that, this sort of character cannot pull themself out of the pit they are in alone; they need outside influence and help to do so. By giving that storytelling thread to other players rather than hoarding it, my hope is to give others a sense of accomplishment and a real stake in the fate of a character rather than going with a predetermined, one-dimensional path.

Pros of your authorization:

  1. A character is granted backstory and information that makes them more dynamic. They are able to go more or less any direction based almost entirely on the input of other players.
  2. Establishes a well put-together character in a field that is increasingly uncommon on the wake of the Seven Hour War.

Cons of your authorization:

  1. Cheyenne will always be at risk of being disappeared by the Combine. The moment they learn the truth through any means, her life is effectively over; she's either forced into servitude using her family as leverage or else simply killed with very little in-between.
  2. Cheyenne has military training and background, but she is not a superwoman. Competence in and understanding of military medical systems and knowledge on how to use and maintain a firearm is the bare minimum, nor is she notably exceptional in this sense.

Write an explanation of how your character obtains this authorization:

Though she might have become something noteworthy had the Seven Hour War not happened, Cheyenne was not destined for that life. Born as part of the Navajo people on tribal lands, she was raised in a desperately poor household with spotty access to electricity and even running water. Deciding that she did not want to spend the rest of her life working either as a coal miner or herding livestock, she sought to excel in her secondary schooling with the hope of earning a university scholarship. Excel she did, and she was offered an unexpected opportunity; a nomination to West Point from an Arizona state representative. She took it, majoring in biology and graduating as part of the class of 1996.

After graduation, Cheyenne served as a nursing officer as part of a support battalion attached to the 325th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne. Stationed primarily in Fort Bragg, she worked on base first in internal medicine, and then the emergency department. When the Black Mesa Incident saw the world thrown into chaos, she was at the heart of the action, tending both military and civilian casualties. Unexpectedly, she also took up arms more than once in defense of her patients; something she never thought she would do. Although the details of her involvement in the Seven Hour War and its aftermath remain murky, she found herself pressed first into combat casualty care, then into direct combat, and finally into evasion after the surrender of Earth so that she might avoid the fell fate of many of her comrades; capture and servitude.

Seeking to put as much distance between herself and her ruined home as possible, Cheyenne ditched her equipment, adopted a pseudonym, and made a perilous journey across the Atlantic along with other refugees in the days after the war. She arrived in Gibraltar some weeks later and was immediately detained by occupation forces, where her identity was not discovered. Instead, she was registered as a citizen under her own name; her surname is not especially uncommon among the Navajo. Her knowledge of Spanish was helpful for a time, but she was transferred northbound after a handful of years. Ending up in District 1, she survived the events there and has now been forced out into a noncorplex territory to be effectively forgotten about, where few of even District 1's former residents know her name.

This state of affairs suits her just fine. It's cleaner that way.

Hello,

This auth is accepted on all four points; you can ask for your +5 boost into guns.

There are two points we want to mention:

1. Given you are former military, if they ever find that out, there is a good chance that they will be after you, so keep that in mind.
2. Since your Dogtags will be an "IC item." You will have to roleplay them being in your possession accordingly.
