As the occupation simmers onwards, the natural geography and cultures of Old-World Earth often open themselves to rich opportunity - opportunity Our Benefactors are keen to exploit.
On the Northern border of Western Europe lies two twinned cities, precariously bound together - comparisons are born, akin to two spent swimmers choking on their art.

City Thirty-Five
Status: Stable
City Thirty-Five.jpg

City Thirty-Five - located in Copenhagen, Denmark - acts as one of the major centers for the Union's Geo-Prospecting Division (GPD). With bountiful lands stretching far into the untouched North, it was found necessary to establish a large, production-based cityscape to refine the countless rare-Earth elements and bulk-process the masses of carbon-based plant life found there, leading to the allocation and creation of City Thirty-Five.

Due to this incredibly heavy industrialization, the atmosphere surrounding the City has grown incredibly toxic; to ensure the longevity of the working populace, gas-masks, and hazard-protection suits are widely distributed to the citizens relocated there. Naturally, it is utterly undesirable to be forced to work under these miserable conditions, but - as ever - this is not a factor that the City Administration forgot to balance. Battling the colossal bureaucracy of the new Earth order, the Administration seeks to 'order' low-class workers with poor socio-credibility from the Citizen Relocation Division to be relocated to their city and act as the main working force.

Following the 'fall' of City Thirty-Six, the idea of having an entire city of disgruntled laborers has grown widely unpopular amongst the members of the Global Union Administration, but heavy lobbying from members of the GPD, and subsequently the Product Manufacturing Division, has allowed the local administration to have some bargaining power amongst the Combine Government; thus, a semi-constant stream of damned undesirables are shipped up North to the bitter cold. To ensure socio-stability, the local Administration offers a variety of benefits to would-be newcomers to the City - should they comply with the grueling labor of the factories and workhouses, an opportunity to climb the local Loyalist 'tiers' into a better social position is offered; across the City, banners flaunt the opportunity for dedicated loyalists to eventually leave for greener pastures - more specifically, for City Eighteen. This work-for-status custom has spawned an incredibly toxic and duplicitous culture amongst the working class, who would rather out their neighbor to the Civil Protection than live in their squalor for another day; this has lent a consistently stable status within the Cities walls, as subservience is willingly adopted.

Whether this city-state will withstand the test of time is unsure, but - for the moment - it is beginning to set a new standard for production-efficiency amongst the median circles of the Global Union Administration. Adoption is apprehensive for the time being, but many councilman's eyes peer curiously towards this smoldering North Star.

City Eighteen
Status: Stable
City Nineteen.jpg

City Eighteen - located in Odense, Denmark - is a glimmering beacon of loyalty and modernism under Our Benefactors. Originally built as a standardized residential-industrial city in the early days of the occupation, the birth of City Thirty-Five has since bolstered the local state to new heights. Eighteen now acts as a hub for quarternary industries, bureaucracy, and agency institutes, with a strong loyalist culture being deep-set into the populace living there.

Eighteen is undoubtedly now twinned with City Thirty-Five - although this burdensome co-dependence between Cities is oft frowned upon in the Global Union Administration for risk of a dangerous downwards spiral, heavy support from many within reach of the Government's individual ministries has lead to the continuation of this trend; the proximity to a mass-industrial hub and distinct lack of atmospheric pollution (due to strong Westerly winds keeping most pollution blowing towards the East) has offered a unique opportunity for City Eighteen's administration to prop itself up as a bastion for high-end, delicate production and quarternary industry.

One of Eighteen's most prominent features internally is their focus on synthetic advancement and repair - with many of the synths present in the original invasion force now re-located off-world, it has fallen on the laboratories within the city to maintain and repair complicated synthetic armaments, and study the combination of the biological and the mechanical for future endeavors. Rumors - long since echoing out from the quixotic homes of the elite - suggest that current experiments involve biomechanical limb replacements, body modifications, and completely separate 'host-bodies' being ever advanced upon, all supported from the heavy industry from her twin, Thirty-Five.

As for loyalist culture, the City seeks to exude even that of City Thirty-Eight's contemporaries and hopes to one day rival City Twenty-Four. With the local authorities focusing on relative luxury and intellectual pursuits, it has become an ideal place to be relocated to for many hopeful loyalists around Occupied Europe - it already houses significant branch offices for many of the Union Government's divisions, such as the Material Provision Division and City Infrastructure Coordination. Echoes of internal corruption bounce around the walls of the glimmering city but are quick to be silenced by the shadowy clutches of the local authority.

For now, the City marches forever forwards - cementing the North of the Sector as a bulwark for the Combine, and mainstay for much of the gourmand desires of the bureaucratic class. The only supposed brakes would seem to be any direct intervention by those beyond the administration, or the untimely downfall of the City's strangled twin.

C18 - Mortar-Synth Array
City Eighteen's walls have a mortar-synth array perched within them - with the resident's strong reliance on synth-based industries, requisitioning the construction and repair of multiple mortar synth units (both new and 7 Hour War remnants) wasn't too much of a hassle. To secure the City from outside threat due to its relative loyalist popularity (and consistent lobbying within internal councils), the City Administration was allowed to install the array for their own City.

Although the synths only have a relatively limited vision to the horizon around City Eighteen, they could be rapidly deployed to shell across to City Thirty-Five if absolutely necessary. Treading above ground too close to Eighteen is a sure-fire way to be shelled - most buildings in the vicinity already have been.

Goldhed Barrens (GPD.Z-047)
(Geo-Prospecting-Division.Zone-047)
Goldhed Barrens.jpg

The Goldhed Barrens (or, more formally known as GPD.Z-047) is a colossal stretch of putrid marshes and barren wastelands accented with permafrost and depleted soil that stretches over much of what was once South-Sweden. It is currently being both actively expanded and deepened by the Geo-Prospecting Division of the Combine and acts as a major source for rare-earth metals and bulk-resources around Europe. Travel across this land is increasingly treacherous, as colossal open-pit mines and sinkholes scar the surface - toxic rain and poisonous gasses blowing in from the hive of City Thirty-Five also cause much of the groundwater here to be completely undrinkable, and the air to be seriously polluted.

Although much of the work done here is completed by synthetic workers and remotely-controlled machines, there are often small teams of laborers from City Thirty-Five sent out to perform maintenance work who are guarded by on-site turrets and synthetic scanners - avoiding active surface-level worksites is advised.

City Thirty-Five - Overall, I wanted to explore some very heavily dystopian cities where the Combines rule and propaganda have formed an 'absolute' status-quo; a lot of European cities are unstable/in unrest, so I thought writing about a more 'successful' venture would be an interesting spin and prove the Combine's competency.

City Eighteen - I also wanted to explore some more elements of the human-based bureaucracy that is established in the lore - although there are forces at play larger than the humans 'in charge', exploring some corruption and abuse in positions of power felt like a fun way to push an interesting, high-loyalist City.

Mortar-Synth Array - Thought a unique City-Defense system could be a fun idea for implementation - also thought it'd create an interesting dynamic for any players on the world map who would want to sabotage the Twin-Cities.

Goldhed Barrens - Read about 'Barren Wastelands' on the abridged lore document, and felt that it would be cool to create one for the European sector that feeds into the other cities. My naming scheme for them (Geo-Prospecting-Division.Zone-*number*) is obviously subject to change if you feel it necessary - I wasn't sure if there was an official name for them yet.

I like it. It really takes the lore and runs with it while not being too crazy. The idea of a really shitty city basically becoming begrudgingly loyalist all for the purpose of escape is really interesting.

"As for loyalist culture, the City seeks to exude even that of City Thirty-Eight's contemporaries and hopes to one day rival City Twenty-Four."
While City 24 is one of the most loyal cities, it isn't confirmed to be the most loyal and luxurious, as it still has plenty of more slum like parts. This sentence can still work, but keep that in mind.

I love the Goldhed Barrens. Absolutely love it. It really visualizes what a Combine facility might look like in a relatively short read. Good work there.

Definitely has my support!

Been on and off reading it through, per section. I'm glad someone's went and gotten an additional part of Scandinavia introduced in a meaningful way. Original with the city's main establishment running mostly on improvised state of affairs.

The G.P.D. will have an established section to themselves, as per what's above.

Thanks and accepted.
