. . .
The European capital of bullfighting and flamenco - Madrid now rests as the last remaining city still standing in the Iberian peninsula, a city loyal to Futurism.

After the Invasion of Earth, the Iberian peninsula was left devastated along with the rest of the world. As the unification efforts began, various Iberian cities such as Lisbon, Barcelona, Porto, and Madrid began their own reconstruction efforts in hopes of surviving and prove to their new alien masters these cities were worth keeping.
For the three years that were to come, these four cities fought harshly for the survival of their own influence and structure, but the constant migration of culturally different people from all corners of Iberia led to devastating outcomes to even the most prominent politicians at the time.
Porto - the largest Portuguese city on the northern Iberian coast and the first city to fall, was subject to a major influx of migrants from basque territories, southern and northern portuguese inhabitants and Castilian people - three different ethnical groups, two of them with a history of rivalry. The city eventually erupted into chaos as violence and struggles for cultural power broke out across the ancient and fragile streets of Porto.
Barcelona - the city-state. A beacon of ancestral pride and ideas of independence. Doomed to fall from the start. Barcelona was stricken by a xeno infestation that took advantage of the thriving Iberian forests as a place for reproduction, overrunning the city even before any chaos could start. Barcelona now stands as an isolated quarantined zone. Empty of human life. Ideal for alien procreation.
Lisbon - the old capital of Portugal. While geographically well-positioned: almost surrounded by a larger river that protected it from exterior xeno threats, the city itself wasn't logistically prepared for such an influx of new inhabitants and despite all efforts from the local civil administration, the city lasted little longer than a couple of years. The city was evacuated - first the Overwatch forces. Then Civil Protection along with members of the administration. For last, the population. All in line towards the same, last stop: Madrid
Madrid survived. Some say it was the circular, conclave-like structure of the city that allowed easier control of the population, while others say it was merely an example of the perfection of Combine logistics!
The high influx of migrants has led the city into a state of overpopulation and consequent unrest. The Xenian threat was higher than ever, spreading like a cancer on the forests of Iberia. The fate of Madrid seemed predictable and history appeared to be repeating itself.
The unrest sparked a sudden awakening among the population. The Civil Administration began to look for alternatives to the stagnancy as the people began to grow more and more worried about their situation. From this, the Spanish Republican Party was formed and its reactionary counterpart: The Futurist Movement of Spain.
The following months marked a period of high political tension that eventually erupted into a bureaucratic warfare within the offices of the CCA.
A civil-"civil" war, called by some. The Republican against the Futurist.
Amidst the chaos, the administration palace was surrounded by the futurist militias known as the 'Phalanx'. The men and women began singing as Civil Protection was dispatched to the scene. The palace was put on a blockade by the Phalanx for almost three days while the Civil Administrator was vetted out by their own council of ministers. Who were, in a desperate act, in support of Futurism.
In a short period of time the CCA was brutally purged and replaced by a Futurist majority. The originally unrecognized Futurist Militias were integrated into official paramilitaries and spread out across the City and Peninsula. The loyalist system was completely abolished and replaced by a corporatist approach, similar to that of Rome. Everything from the food to the layout of the city was changed. Great Communal Blocks were built and Industrial factories began to sprout around in great tentacles reaching from the once circular Madrid.
Spain is unrecognizable. It's cities rebuilt, and its people transformed.
Five years of Castilian and Futurist rule have resulted in cultural tension skyrocketing.
Opposite to Rome and its beautiful Inner-City, Madrid has transformed its inner-city into a massive industrial complex.
"Speed. Progress. Industry. Machinery."
The outer-limits of the City are reserved for the Loyalists and Futurists.
Inbetween the two, the Phalanx Forces continue to terrorize the underclass population, hunting Republican and Basque dissidents alike.
A great divide exists in Madrid, worse than that of Rome. The Conformists are barely granted liberties due to the ever-present VIOLENCE.
Yet the Futurists continue to march towards their perfect vision.
