C1- Introduction
The Civil Medical and Research union, is dedicated to ensuring the health and well being of which ever urban center they happen to reside within. Its the foundation of this unions dedication and efforts, their primary task. All citizens of varying collaboration status, may find themselves walking through this unions doors in search of medical assistance, to aid them in their time of need. However, this is not the be all and end all, as a darker and perhaps more sinister side lurks in the shadows.
That shadow is of course the research branch, a silent, fungal tumor that hums and grows among the dank and lurid backdrop, hidden from prying eyes whilst those who serve its purpose, work tirelessly on their harsh endeavors. Through the use of smoke and mirror tactics, the union pushes forth an ideal representation of this branch, showing the wider world how useful and humane its projects are, to better humanity as a whole, rather than exposing its true purpose.
Those who join the ranks of the CMRU will find themselves in the primary position of nursing the injured or unwell individuals back to health, whilst those who choose to do so may also take on other tasks within the research and development side, opting into projects as they wish or see fit to do so.

C2 - Hierarchy
Administration | |
Director | Every district has a directorial figure at the helm, an individual to push forward the ideology set forth from the benefactors, and those who push pencils within city seventeen. The director sits at the top, dictating policy and forcing new initiatives, perhaps their own from time to time, shaping and molding the union into whats required. They command as well as demand from those who work beneath, ensuring their facilities continue running at the standards they set. |
Dean | Whilst the director has complete control of their domain, they cannot always be seen lurking the halls. Those appointed as a dean are charged with the day to day running of the clinics and research laboratories, ensuring the directors orders and carried out to the letter. Three deans are usually appointed to this role, allowing the balance of work load and expertise to filter between them. |
Management | Key individuals selected to run parts of the medical team, specializing in a chosen field of knowledge |
Emergency Care Practitioner ECP | A single individual, selected to oversee and run the emergency care side of the medical branch. Their day to day activities include the supervision of rapid response functions, triage co-ordination and crisis management. their narrow focus ensures those under their oversight are ready to act during high tempo situations, whilst enforcing protocols during acute care situations. |
Clinical Care Doctor CCD | Aligning their goals and tasks with the ECP, they handle the more mundane and calm scenarios of clinical care, ensuring once more that medical procedures and policies are aligned and enforced among the nurses and other medical staff. They rarely handle emergency care and focus more on standard medical treatments, providing guidance and support on clinical decision making. |
Core Medical Staff | The bulk of the medical union staff occupy these roles, facilitating the day to day care across the board. |
Nurse Practitioner | These experienced and diverse individuals are at the front line, handling the important medical tasks day to day, performing surgical operations, monitoring patient recoveries and documenting all medical procedures and equipment uses, whilst giving treatments to those who require it. Depending on the choice of a given individual, they can work under the ECP or the CCD, working directly under their umbrella, liaising, conveying relevant information between them. |
Registered Nurse | A backbone for nurse practitioners, they support them at the front line, assisting with patient management and treatments, monitoring recoveries and plausible followup procedures. They have a moderate knowledge of medical practices and can always advance, through learning and qualifications from experience and regular training. |
Intern | Wet behind the ears and eager to learn, these new rank and file individuals are about to embark on a medical career, learning the ropes from those who work in ranks above them. Over the course of several months, they may learn through observation, assisting with basic tasks, training scenarios and direct intervention, if a given situation allows it. |
C3- Medical Council
Whilst unseen, the director of this institution commands and dictates its policies, using the deans to enforce them among the staff. A council, formed by the deans, sit at the table, delegating the work load among one another, ensuring the will and requirements set forth are fulfilled. Little control over medical procedure is required, allowing more freedom to work on the research branch.
Those who wish to push forward new innovations and ideas for research, must approach this council for financial and green light approval, filling out forms which outline their ideas, mathematical calculations, theoretical side effects, potential benefits and more. The director trusts in those they select as dean, assuming their control over all departments is just. However, deadlocks may happen between the council members, requiring the director to give their final say in those rare situations.
Depending on their level of trust, the deans may bring forward the ECP and CCD, conveying information only where required or perhaps in full disclose, understanding the classified nature of whats being conveyed.
C4- Internships
Intrepid individuals who seek employment within the CMRU, may do so by gaining an internship through an application process on the server. Those within management and above, may provide the means through interviews and some general questions, to gain an understanding of those applying. To begin your new career within the medical branch, you must have the following:
-100 social credits
-70 credits for equipment
-a reasonably low criminal history (Interviewer discretion)
Should you pass the interview process, you will be officially inducted into the medical branch to begin your learning. The CMRU is a serious faction, requiring individuals to role play in a manner fitting to the medical environment. Learning materials pertaining to the CMRU can be found in the following links, allowing you to better your knowledge on medical procedures and advance through the ranks.
Note that although the CMRU faction expects a serious level of RP, we dont expect everyone to have a medical degree. Use the guides and information provided to help you when performing as your CMRU char.
C5- Research
Research within the CMRU works on an opt-in system, allowing anyone above the rank of registered nurse to work on projects, as and when they see fit. Whilst designated ranks don't exist, paper work ensures those working on projects are well documented, ensuring their achievements or failures are known to the administration and the dean council members.
Out of character, players who wish to pursue research role play may do so, providing they follow a predetermined list of do's and don'ts, outlined below. All project proposals must be admitted in character to a dean, or in rare cases the director, to which they will be reviewed before a final decision is given to that character.
When making a proposal for any project, use a google doc in any web browser, using the format below. Make sure that this can be read by those who need to read it, before copying the viewer only link and pasting that into a piece of paper in game. Doing this means that all documents can be kept in game and on the server, allowing anyone within the department to access them and read them, whilst also allowing resistance members the chance to infiltrate the facility and steal those documents.
It's important to remember that those playing as a rebel, cannot always access the forum nodes that contain research documents. Doing these through docs in google and allowing anyone with a link to view them, means that infiltration RP can thrive.
For those stealing documents, the following MUST be abided by. You cannot see the information unless:
- You have the paper/book with the link in your inventory
- You take the paper/book with you to a new location
- Have it directly infront of you on a prop or part of the map, allowing you to "read" the document
Failure to abide by these rules will be considered as fail RP, or Metagaming.
C5.1- Limitations
The following table illustrates what cannot be done through research RP. Specific topics must be avoided, due to the location where WN English main is set, the realistic level of expertise for individuals wishing to pursue research and general realism. Some topics will also be heavily frowned upon by the combine, meaning they may take action against you, if you attempt to do anything from the following list:
| Nuclear Science | This covers a broad spectrum of types relating to anything nuclear in nature, that being generators, fuels, uranium or plutonium materials, bombs, devices of any kind. |
| Munitions | Creating new types of ammunition for weapons will be prohibited for any player to write and roleplay icly |
| Bombs | No bombs of any kind using any materials |
| Teleportation | Anything that pertains or eludes to uncovering a method or way of using teleportation technology. Aperture exists in the HL2 universe though its ware about is unknown to the combine. |
| Artificial Intelligence | AI takes a lot of time to create and a lot of computer power to run. This is an unrealistic goal from a research perspective, more so in smaller confined districts among urban centers |
| Combine Technology | Tampering or trying to alter combine technology to produce better equipment or anything else that relates to this topic. |
Regardless of this list, the events team may produce and offer story lines that do offer interesting research projects of these types. Players are asked not to write or conduct research on their own, in relation to the presented limitations list.
C6- Union Documents
Much like research, medical documents can be done in two ways, both facilitated in game on the server, as to allow criminals to steal medical information relating to patients or equipment stored in the CMRU facilities.
The server houses multiple methods, such as books, paper, computers and hard drives, the latter being more secure with passwords and encrypted security measures to prevent theft and unwanted viewers. Medical logs can be added to individual patient files, using a computer. For anyone with a high enough rank, a CMU PDA or combine PDA can be used to input the same information.
Medical equipment logs should be done in game, through the use of the aforementioned types. Using google docs that allow individuals to read them, along with giving access to those who may need to edit them, these links can be posted into paper or books, as well as computer logs and hard drives, allowing the end user to see whats being written and potentially steal those documents.
C6.1- Uniforms
Much like other unions, its important to know who is doing what from a glance. The CMRU has three divergent paths of development and expertise, requiring a uniform for each specific branch. Refer to the table below to see which branch uses what type of uniform:
Interns | Interns beginning their career will be given a grey medical shirt, blue nitrile gloves and a medical face mask. This equipment must be used when working within the medical facilities.
Clinical Care Department | After advancing beyond your internship, you may pick a career path. Those within clinical care will be given a green medical shirt to show their department.
Emergency Care Department | Those choosing the path of emergency care will be given a red medical shirt to show which department they work in.
ECP/CCD | Department heads are given a white lab coat to help them standout among the rest. Along with this, they're given a combine PDA, to help them manage their specified branch
Research | Anyone perusing research will be loaned a lab coat from the CMRU equipment lockers. These coats are to remain on site when not in use and may only be worn when those who need them are engaged in research tasks, in or outside of the CMRU facilities. |
C6.2- Equipment Access
Depending on your rank, equipment will be allocated to you in order to help facilitate your work and job related tasks. Refer to the below table to see what you may be entitled to:
Medical Gloves | All employees will be given a pair of medical gloves, regardless of their department access
Medical Mask | All employees will be given a medical mask
CMU PDA | Registered Nurses and Nurse practitioners will be granted access to a CMU PDA
Combine PDA | Those in management and above will be granted a Combine PDA
Computer Access | Depending on which department is being accessed, computers will be available for logging purposes to those who require them at all levels.
CMRU Access Card | A CMRU access card is required to gain entry to CMRU facilities. Depending on your rank, your access may be restricted to certain areas of the facility. (Seek ic help if you need your access changed) (Or contact a moderator and using the M flag, ask them to change your access card level by right clicking the card with that flag and changing it to the correct level) |
C6.2- Access levels
Depending on your rank, you will have access to various parts within the CMRU facilities. Refer to the table below to see where you have access and what level is required to gain entry:
Level one | Basic level entry - Interns+ | Access to low level surgical rooms, medical bays, triage and recovery rooms |
Level Two | Entry to basic storage Registered Nurse+ | Access to storage rooms containing day to day medical equipment |
Level Three | Access granted upon application and removed upon project completion | Access to low level research facilities |
Level Four | Department heads+ | Access to high level medical equipment for rare use cases |
Level Five | Access granted upon application and removed upon project completion | Access to high level research facilities and equipment storage |
C7- Biotics
Vorts can play an integral part within the CMRU, being utilized to clean and help keep things tidy in various locations. Over time and with enough trust, vorts can advance to more important tasks within the CMRU, allowing them to get involved in medical and perhaps if they show true loyalty, research as well.
| Entry level Biotic - 20 cohesion points | Vorts at this level are allowed to work in the CMRU, to clean, tidy and generally work as a janitor for the CMRU's benefit | |
| Medical association - 40 cohesion points | Vorts at this level will also require the trust of those above them, especially those among the administration within the CMRU. They may start learning how to treat patients, adhering to the same guidelines as their human counter parts. | |
| Advanced specialties - 70 cohesion points | Presuming a vort has been with the CMRU for some time by this point, they may obtain permissions to delve into the realms of scientific discovery within the research branch, giving them the chance to help advance ascension projects and the like. |
Note that should your vort drop below the required number of cohesion points for any of the above ranks, management may revoke your specialty and access to the perks and tasks that come with them.
C8- Workshifts
At the CMRU, workshifts may be hosted for a variety of reasons. When hosting your workshift, be sure to refer to the following list of available rewards and requirements to host those shifts:
-Anyone ranked nurse practitioner and above may host a shift
-Depending on the shift type, be sure to call for civil protection oversight
-Do NOT host a shift unless enough medical staff are online to continue running the clinic
| Hosting a workshift -Seek approval from those in management or administration -Setup your workshift using the /getCWUflags command, giving you temp access to PET flags -Inform the CWU about your workshift to avoid an overlap -Use the broadcast button on the terminal to announce your shift and to queue up outside the CMRU building -Begin the shift by pressing the green button -Collect your workforce from the front of the medical union building -Allow the workers to sign in on the terminal -Pause registration by pressing the red button -Log the work cycle on the relevant computer terminal for record purposes |
| Lectures Many subjects of interest and scientific studies can be tought to the urban populations, increasing their knowledge on various topics to help advance the human species into ascension. Whilst some pre determined lecture formats and information may have been setup, players may also produce their own lectures. To gain ic permission to host your own lecture, you will need: -Introduction: Explain what topic you will be teaching the class -Documents: A series of ic documents for your class to follow, giving details on various parts of your chosen topic -Questions: For your eyes only, have set questions the class can answer either during the lecture or the end -Games: Something that can be fun and engaging to those in attendance which relates to your topic -Models: ic mock ups of what you're trying to teach (ooc props and so forth) -Panels: An illustrative image that can help keep players engaged and interested in the topic you're teaching (Ask moderators to place a temporary panel) Management will have to review any and all proposed lectures before allowing them to be used. |
| Rewards Basic Coupon | 15 Credits - 10 Social Credits Advanced Coupon | 25 Credits -15 Social Credits Ascended Coupon | 35 Credits - 20 Social Credits Depending on if you're running a workshift, or hosting a lecture, the following reward types are available to those in attendance. Be sure to only give one Ascended coupon per shift/lecture and only if the individual has done exceptionally well to earn it. Management and above hold the rights to withdraw these rewards and punish those for abusing this system |
Ascended High priority shift Exceptional Learning | Advanced Extended shifts Good learning in lectures | Basic Attendance to workshift Lecture Attendance | Present Staff -For staff who host the workshift or lecture. Bonus given if own lecture material is approved and well received |
C9- Rogue Auths/Thefts
Going rogue within the CMRU should be encouraged for those who wish to role play rebellious tendencies. This also applies to those outside the faction who wish to steal or cause damage/leak sensitive documents or knowledge. Inform the OOC lead (@Rabithunter ) before attempting any of the following to get authorization. Bare in mind that you may be denied, depending on the factions current stability.
- Scripts: Please take no more than 10 scripts per heist.
- Stacks: You may take two stacks of any items in storage per heist.
- OOC docs: Links to these should be in books, on paper or on drives/computers. You may NOT icly be able to read those WITHOUT having the scripts the links are saved on. To have ic knowledge, WITHOUT those in your characters inventory, or within the room YOU are viewing them in, is metagame.
- You may take two documents in one heist.
- Access Cards: Bound access cards for biolocks can be stolen and hacked icly. Although there is no mechanic to enable this. contact staff or GM's to help with this. Please inform the ooc lead if you intend to do this and upon completion.
- CMRU/Combine PDA: You CAN steal both. Be aware that BOTH can be tracked if used in character by various combine systems. Ensure that you have the correct hacking auths to break into them BEFORE attempting to steal one.
- Stealing Access Cards: You may steal a members access card to gain entry to the CMRU building and its facilities. Please inform the OOC lead when you have stolen a card.
- Stealing a Radio: Faction radios are tuned into a specific frequency. These can be stolen and will only last for 24 hours, after which the radio's battery will fail and the radio will stop working. Inform the OOC lead when you steal a radio, so time can be monitored and the radio deleted once this time has elapsed.
- Serious Damage: This will be dealt with on a case by case basis and dependent on current faction stability. Please speak with the ooc lead about your plans before attempting to create serious problems for the faction.
- Heist Cooldown: Unless asking to cause serious damage, a cooldown of 3 days between heists should be observed.
