Before I begin I wish to start with some acknowledgments and FYIs.

This is my first time writing a document like this so errors may appear. I understand the event had certain things not go to plan (More on that later). I understand the event team tried to make the event fun and involving for both parties. This isn't an attack on any members of Willard this was made with support of other members that lost Chars during this event, two of the members that survived are also in support of creating this document, that being said all I say here is what I know happened and what I experienced. The others that died and or survived will most likely have things I missed in this document but I tried to have any feedback taking from players that took part in the event while writing this. I also acknowledge that the chance of this being shunted aside is rather high judging by the nature of the event

With that out the way this is where the actual complaint starts.

1. The beginning of the Arteria arm: Most of this was fine, however, the Conscripts where forced to deploy early due to "Harming Roleplay" I have to disagree, the Conscripts used a part of the map that is never populated for longer than 5 minutes by passers-by. The conscripts opened several roleplay opportunities for both CPs and Civvies. Sure they prevented people from going through the RDT via PCS-1 but that isn't a huge factor, they could just walk around, no need to rush a very fragile faction still trying to figure things out.

2. The event itself. Due to the probable long list ahead this is split up into parts.

The event began with us in a subway map, this map was supposed to be a "10 minute" map where all we had to do was find a generator. What happened was we were given FAMASs and 2 boxes of ammo to fight against hordes of zombies, while although no one died (Unless you count the voided blue on blue) it introduced the Conscripts to how their fate was sealed. The FAMAS in general is an awful weapon, iron sights that can't be seen through, a very high rate of fire despite only having two boxes of ammo. That on top of being given absolutely zero medical supplies or any weapon that wasn't the two boxed FAMASs. You ran out of ammo you were better off dead. ( The first map wasn't the biggest issue nor is it a particularly big one, I added this for a chronological order of how things went down for Conscript players)

  • After finding the generator we hoped on a train and went to the front lines. (The big issues start here). We arrived at the location and were given three boxes of ammo this time, with still zero medical supplies, in total about 17 AA were there, despite this the HMMLR still had most of their numbers, including four elites (More onto them later). We were then told out objective was an "Infiltration assault", despite being an infiltration the enemy knew exactly where we were and where we were heading, they had chances to prepare for us, having the advantage of firing the first shot during all engagements.

  • After hearing our objective we left the area and started to head towards the staging ground. What we merry few found was an incredibly drunk CCA official (A minister if I'm not mistaken) this character added nothing to the event (Ofc no offense to who played them) all it did was waste the AA's time while the enemy worked it's way around and started to flank us, by the time we could investigate and carry on with the mission the enemy were already practically on top of us, we turned a corner and instantly get shot down, however only one man got downed but he got patched up using the Sleeves of his comrades.
  •
  • After seeing the enemy we worked our way round through the sewers and into an apartment building were we searched every room we could and found nothing, no cloths for a makeshift bandage, no ammo, nothing just empty rooms. We then made our way to the roof top, after opening the door is when I watched an AA get two tapped by an elite set up on the other side, the roof top was a dead zone, the HMMLR then pushed the roof tops and held us by shooting down the stairs with their SMGs (UZIs) a weapon, arguably, much more preferable for CQB then an AR with iron sights.
  •
  • Eventually we found a way out that didn't lead to the roof tops, instead, it lead straight to the front of the nexus which was just sitting behind a fully manned MG nest. At this point we also learned that the elites had frag grenades, two of which could've easily killed all of us right then and there if luck wasn't on our side. We were told that there were ways around the MG. Everywhere we went was either a dead end, propped over or covered by elites and normal soldiers.
  •
  • note: we are closing into about the third crash we had in this map after which most conscripts never came back.
  •
  • I feel now is a good time to talk about the elites. These monsters of a character. I was told that they were deployed when the HMMLR felt right to do so, we weren't told that time would be right off the bat. These guys had; far superior weaponry with sights and a good amount of ammo, Medical equipment, Grenades, better armour, and zero char dev. These characters were practically invincible by the standards of the AA, the Chars had nothing to lose against the real actual chars. They die? They respawn as a normal soldier and add to what was very quickly becoming their superior numbers. Note: This went for Everyone who died if you died you could come back as a normal soldier, so already with that sentence the AA's fate was sealed, balance was a word people would tell fairy tales about, as it was non-existent. By the time we were being slaughtered one by one, the HMMLR out numbered an entire Battalion. A Battalion consisting of originally 17 people. I'm sure I don't need to talk about Tommy who was responsible for over 5 PKs by using a two shot DMR, it didn't matter where he aimed if we were caught in his sights we were dead. The AA stood absolutely no chance against these things much like the event in general.
The AA never got to see the Combine door leading to the Nexus, we were picked off by much better equipped enemies. The Normal soldier equalled an AA, this point is moot by the fact the HMMLR had all the cards to play, all the advantages, UZIs rather than the FAMAs the AA's were given, giving them even more reason just to rush us with their one use event char since, as previously said, they'd just come back as a normal soldier and no progress would be made.

The Arteria Arm was told to be an infantry fighting force of the combine, people that were used if OTA wasn't deemed necessary or applicable. We were shipped to City 2 via an APC. Despite this we had numbers barley scratching a company of soldiers, bad weapons despite being trained in the Mosin, no medical supplies nor specialisations. (The closest we got to that last point is when people found an SA80 and the Vex had an AK). The HMMLR had, a lieutenant, Majors, elites and Normal soldiers. All members of the AA were equipped the same bar a change in weapon depending on role (E.g commissar and her magnum)

The second map used was unstable. cramped, and incredibly dark (As in with no flashlights it was pitch black in some places). This made an already lower quality event to, speaking freely here, go down the shitter faster. The HMMLR, had every advantage the event could give. The event felt like there was no attempt to give the AA a glance of victory. I say this, while backed by what, of those that actually played, remained of my team, the event felt boring, it didn't feel like war in the slightest, it wasn't what we signed up for, we signed up to die yes, but not this way, an SS event shouldn't result in 36 chars being PK'd due to down right horrible balancing and map choice (We were told that some maps were denied due to the fact it had a citadel in the skybox and to be brutally honest, every single player that played that event would've preferred a good map that felt real but with some discrepancy in the lore rather than the DarkRP unstable death trap of a map we got given)

While these may all sound like feedback paragraphs please take note, feedback is one thing, but feedback for future events doesn't make 39 PKs any less damning. Feedback won't change the fact very few players enjoyed the event or found it fun in anyway. It was a blatant waste of 36 chars. Did we get warned we would probably die? Yes. Did we get warned we would die in a crappy map in an event that was anticlimactic and very few of us found fun? No. Changing the subject before this gets anymore informal.

please understand this isn't coming only from me. This is for all of the AA players even those that lost chars to an event they couldn't play on due to OOC delays. Almost all the PK's were caused due to OOC issues, it isn't right to let this many people die due to errors outwith their control, it's just wrong.

So what do I suppose we do about it? Again this is from other Conscripts not only me.

A. A redo, with an actual good map regardless of lore accuracy and better event handling (Better balance, don't have 4 unstoppable ECs ontop of a bunch of regulars fight against underarmed and no medical Soldiers of the Union.) This time around there would be specialisations for both sides (Literally all we want for the AA is at least one medic and maybe a marksmen or two, again we were trained on long range rifles)

B. (This was proposed specifically by members of my squad) "Revive" some of the chars, have it be they were MIA before making their way out to the outskirts were they were found by the combine or something I don't know I'm not good with lore ideas all we want is for out of 39 soldiers not have only 3 of them making it out alive. We were told that the 3 surviving was controversial as if the idea was for all 39 players to be PK'd, 39 developed characters killed by one off event chars.

(I acknowledge the fact that both of these may not be feasible but its better than nothing)

Please share ideas of other work arounds this is just what I and others could come up with.

In conclusion: The event felt really boring and unnatural (The map was supposed to be a war torn London yet felt almost nothing like it). The factions weren't close to balanced. The map choice wasn't the greatest. And was not even close to a suitable event for the death of 36 characters. Also a little side note, the HMMLR players were extremely toxic afterwards it was like if OTA went into the general chat and started shitting on some rebels they killed during a sweep.

Note: This was written with the best intentions even if I got a bit out of hand a times. I mean no offense to anyone who worked on the event especially merlin (The event truly had some great potential, it's a shame IRL events prevented you from taking part) Also I probably missed some information but this is what I could gather/remember.

I made this thread because its either I try to make this and it gets ignored or I don't and 100% nothing changes. Thank you for reading this huge ass document and sorry for any formatting issues this already took me 2 hours to write

I'm not doing a redo.

We understood the problems with this event and gave the conscripts some advantages in the lore to account for them. However, I'm not redoing this event. Ever.

I would rather resign then have to go through the same development hell then this event went through. A enforced combat event which was designated from the very start by the Preamble to be a combat event. No event should ever be designed in this manner (exclusive combat) and thus I refuse to partake in this bullshit again after seeing this type of event endlessly fail during the long haul (unsurprisingly it failed again).

The focus right now is on Chapter 2 which will be far more balanced then Chapter 1 as its a megaevent and will likely also have a lot of external quality control compared to the lack of care towards Chapter 1's development (sorry, but C1's development was practically a one-man-effort with some limited help by Merlinsclaw and Noh).

That's just the simple difference between a event that takes place on the Short Stories server and one that will take place on the main server.

As for the survival of your conscripts.

I might run a sweepstakes or something to ensure the survival of at least 25 percent of the conscripts from that event. Have them reappear (they went MIA) during Chapter 2 and the three that did get back to City 24 were the exception, not the rule.

This would be preferable. I can understand why doing a redo is off the table and while I understand this was primarily a one man kind of affair but due to the event being hell, and if this idea doesn’t happen, are we expected just to deal with the large amount of loss?

It was hell alone to have to play that event never mind if the people creating it never enjoyed doing it. Due to this and if that idea doesn’t come into place, 36 characters will be lost in an event no one enjoyed taking part in or creating in the first place.

I hope you go through with the aforementioned idea, it’d be better than just allowing 93% of the players that signed up to the event getting unappealable PKs.
