Complaint regarding CvR mindset in both staff teams and combine factions

Pre-complaint

I'd like to start of by saying that I rarely find stuff like this worthy of a forum post. Usually the issues I personally hold get resolved rather quickly and I do applaud the staff team and server management for these efforts. However, what had occurred yesterday with the vortigaunt freeing falls into something I've noticed throughout my entire time within Willard Networks. I also want to assure everyone that I hold no hatred towards anyone within any of the staff teams or factions. Me making this complaint is in the hopes of people improving things.

My complaint

Over my time in Willard Networks I've played many factions. CivPro, Dispatch, OTA, OSA, Rebel, and Vortigaunt. Within this time I have noticed just how much the Combine faction is just handed favorable circumstances. Ranging from simple items being provided out of thin air and ooc information being used icly (blatant metagaming), to outright unwinnable fights where s2k gunships are spawned against small rebel groups (see industrial 24 incident) by the staff team, gamemasters, as well as server council. Yes the combine is powerful, yes being a rebel should be somewhat challenging. But the way that it stands playing a rebel is impossible with the way staff intervenes. The most recent example of this is what occurred yesterday.

Over the course of a couple of weeks, the vortigaunt faction has last 4 free vortigaunts in less then 4 days. Yes, ic reasonings are behind this. Yes, vortigaunt damage is in my opinion inconsistent (should be 75 damage, but logs show different things. For example, my vort does 67 damage and Asimo's does 57... got screenshots from logs if devs want them) but that is not the biggest issue that I wish to highlight right now. Since we had lost so many vortigaunts, vortleads agreed to allowing 3 vortigaunts to be freed during the storm while OCIN was down, however this event was ended prematurely causing us to find another way to liberate vorts, which brings us to yesterday. Asimo and I came up with a plan to utilize our map knowledge to give us an advantage against our opponents, forcing them into a small space where they could be more easily defeated while our rear flank was blocked by a map feature. The fight went very well and from what I heard both sides enjoyed the actual combat after many months of no real fights. On both sides people were being downed and overall it seemed like a good fight, however tilted favorably towards the rebels due to our planning in spite of our lack in gear. Our mindset being they would have to come to us through a prepared position and the equipment being gained afterwards from the downed civpro to arm the resistance later. No this does not mean shotcops were going to return.

During the fight, the elevator broke due to how much it was being used. In my personal opinion, not the worst issue as these things can happen. So staff spawned a ladder in the elevator shaft. However, at this point we already had civpro on the backfoot from what I could see with them deploying smokes in order to retrieve their fallen. This caused us to perform a push on their position in the hopes of making those who were still alive to retreat and leave their fallen and allowing us to escape. Then out of nowhere, civpro came from behind us, which should not have been possible icly as the button for the gate that was sealed was on our side of the conflict. Later I heard this was due to staff spawning a button on the other side for civil protection and straight up private messaging the PT leader about its placement. In my opinion this is blatant metagaming and an abuse of powers to turn the fight favorably towards the combine side which has gone, to this point, unpunished.

Our entire position collapsed and from the 9 people we brought, only 3 survived because of this flank. Not to mention the amount of civpro that were downed twice but not slain after their second down... The entire situation became a clusterfuck of admin intervention. It has become more and more clear to me over these many months that there is in fact a bias against rebels by most of the higherups in the staff team, not to mention them holding high positions within the combine factions. The most shocking of all is Nath's response to the current PK appeals from yesterday's events which sums it up pretty neatly.

The fact that people still believe there is no bias is just laughable at this point, and I really hope that the owner of this community takes a good look into this behavior and begins to address it, because time and time again I've seen complaint after complaint and abuse report after abuse report which have done nothing to improve the current state of the CvR mindset. Yet everything is being done to destroy RebelRP... Vortigaunts being nerfed to basically be worse then a rebel with an mp7 and rebels not even being able to acquire actually decent equipment over the span of months since the server reopened.

I implore people to hold a civil discussion below with their opinions and evidence, be it for or against this post. By no means do I wish to anger anyone by writing this, my intentions are merely to improve the server for everyone. Because as it stands, I am of the impression that rebelrp will completely fall silent, which like it or not, will affect the entire server.

Locking the PK appeals so that the SC can investigate themselves without input from the community or GMs that witnessed the entire thing is pretty hilarious.

Anyway I agree and have provided all my points in the screenshot above. Admins chose rulebook warfare and manipulated the events yesterday to achieve the desired Combine win when rebels were probably going to lose anyways considering they were able to be trapped on both sides and had very limited ammo to continue fighting. (admins even acknowledged the lack of rebel supplies to continue and still went ahead with destroying their only advantage, which i have already covered was actually a combine advantage anyways since they trapped themselves)

This is part of the overarching anti-fun initiative that I've been talking about. Maybe if we stopped banning or pushing all the rebel players out of the community we'd be chillin rn

There really isn't anything else for me to state, nothing major other than me backing up the stuff Stanford wrote on his complaint. There has been a clear bias since the map being changed and it is completely obvious, anyone who says "it doesn't exist" or "hearsay" is completely oblivious to the fact that we have been getting destroyed by staff and been in a constant rulebook warfare like nath stated, we are being completely stalked by staff if we break any minor rules just because some of them want us to clearly lose the fight.

Another point I wanted to make was, our members being slain after being downed a few times, and the CPs not being slain and them continuing the fight, leading me to clearly think that staff was only observing the rebels being downed and slaying them manually after them being downed few times and not the CPs, thats another point that really just ensures that there is a bias against conflict and the rebels mainly.

This setting is not fun, nor "hardcore" as they "intend" to make it. It is just troubling and completely negatively focused upon us. The people who did these know what they did, why they did it and I urge them to address these, because having a bias against an entire faction is not an acceptable act.

I do want to point out that this thread is not meant to solely discuss yesterday's occurrences, but the CvR mindset as a whole. I merely use yesterday's events as an example to get the point across. Please don't solely focus on yesterday's events, thank you all <3

Minor details regarding this I want to add up, I simply wanted to disassemble a Bastard smg for a weapon part (half the worth of the total materials usage) to make a better gun like an AK or VSK after they were intro'd back in crafting recently.

@Cocohop GM'd it and agreed after a 100+ crafting roll but was told no by a higher up of staff. I wasnt given a reason why either.

After we changed maps, the rebel scene just feels being held back to 'balance things out', this is how it feels from my standpoint

This wouldn't have been an issue if not for the button materializing into existence to give cops an unnecessary advantage. The issue isn't CvR but instead unfair decision making that we wish to see resolved.

I think there is also the fact that back in i24 there were rebel attacks basically every other day and I think the want for that not to be happening is bleeding over so it could also just be something where people are not event intently doing but just blank in thinking and make an impulse decision.

I agree this may be a cause for the issues, however it was months ago and people need to realize that nearly all those people have since left the community. The current rebel players I've interacted with so far all feel that random shotcops are not worth it and won't actively seek to do them without proper reasoning. Yet staff still believe this will be an issue from what i can tell

As a civil protection main, it is a concurrent joke that the actual rebels on this server are so under equipped and out numbered that nearly every other day we have EVENT rebels taking their place, these said rebels usually kitted out with high quality gear equal to the civil protection and exceeding them in some scenarios.

I would rather have my character die to an actual character than some copy pasted 'stoic oriental' event character...

I do remember an instance where one of these event characters used a sniper rifle in slums, wiping out nearly an entire PT (4/7 members) with one shot per down

This issue does need consideration and action, otherwise the outlook is bleak...

Solution: decrease the grind for rebels (temporarily?) So rebels can gear up to being a threat again by themselves

This will maybe fix rebel economy, sure... but how is this related to the bias towards combine factions in staff?

I believe that to fix such a problem, a thorough purge within the administration would be necessary to eliminate the human factor that causes these situations. Of course, it’s important to assume that not everyone is biased. Would it help? For a while, yes, but not forever. The problem is more complex when you think about it, especially when we only have the accounts of both sides. Another solution could be to require all staff members to record their gameplay from start to finish, allowing us to review who was truly at fault. Then kick the staff member. This could also help, though not entirely.

Unfortunately, there has been an oversaturation of negative attitudes toward the rebels, and most people don’t like them (not everyone, of course, but a significant portion does). Balancing the capabilities of the Combine and the rebels could change people’s perspectives on both sides and encourage more balanced actions from the administration. It might not be a perfect solution, but it’s something!✋:yudodis:🤚

I like how you didn’t include rebels in the title. #RebelsOnTop #Humanists #Resistance

This assumes we don't know who is doing what, which we can and do find out. We're not going to require people to

Willard has a comprehensive logging system, it's not like we can't see who spawned a button. We are not doing a purge of the staff team either, I think that's a terrible idea and frankly unwarranted in my eyes.

You know, there always has to be that one person who comes up with a bad idea, and that person this time is me.👉:yudodis:👈

But seriously, I know you have access to all of that, yet the problem still exists and will continue to exist. It all stems from one group’s dislike of another and the desire for their group to win while the other loses. Everyone feels that way sometimes, but it’s important to remember that this is an RP server. The goal is to create enjoyable gameplay, not to achieve victory. And in the end, it all comes down to that one person who made a mistake. In my opinion, they should be called out or perhaps lightly punished—not necessarily harshly, but enough to address the error. The issue with the two sides of the conflict will persist until their abilities are somewhat balanced.
