Complaint regarding CvR mindset in both staff teams and combine factions

Pre-complaint

I'd like to start of by saying that I rarely find stuff like this worthy of a forum post. Usually the issues I personally hold get resolved rather quickly and I do applaud the staff team and server management for these efforts. However, what had occurred yesterday with the vortigaunt freeing falls into something I've noticed throughout my entire time within Willard Networks. I also want to assure everyone that I hold no hatred towards anyone within any of the staff teams or factions. Me making this complaint is in the hopes of people improving things.

My complaint

Over my time in Willard Networks I've played many factions. CivPro, Dispatch, OTA, OSA, Rebel, and Vortigaunt. Within this time I have noticed just how much the Combine faction is just handed favorable circumstances. Ranging from simple items being provided out of thin air and ooc information being used icly (blatant metagaming), to outright unwinnable fights where s2k gunships are spawned against small rebel groups (see industrial 24 incident) by the staff team, gamemasters, as well as server council. Yes the combine is powerful, yes being a rebel should be somewhat challenging. But the way that it stands playing a rebel is impossible with the way staff intervenes. The most recent example of this is what occurred yesterday.

Over the course of a couple of weeks, the vortigaunt faction has last 4 free vortigaunts in less then 4 days. Yes, ic reasonings are behind this. Yes, vortigaunt damage is in my opinion inconsistent (should be 75 damage, but logs show different things. For example, my vort does 67 damage and Asimo's does 57... got screenshots from logs if devs want them) but that is not the biggest issue that I wish to highlight right now. Since we had lost so many vortigaunts, vortleads agreed to allowing 3 vortigaunts to be freed during the storm while OCIN was down, however this event was ended prematurely causing us to find another way to liberate vorts, which brings us to yesterday. Asimo and I came up with a plan to utilize our map knowledge to give us an advantage against our opponents, forcing them into a small space where they could be more easily defeated while our rear flank was blocked by a map feature. The fight went very well and from what I heard both sides enjoyed the actual combat after many months of no real fights. On both sides people were being downed and overall it seemed like a good fight, however tilted favorably towards the rebels due to our planning in spite of our lack in gear. Our mindset being they would have to come to us through a prepared position and the equipment being gained afterwards from the downed civpro to arm the resistance later. No this does not mean shotcops were going to return.

During the fight, the elevator broke due to how much it was being used. In my personal opinion, not the worst issue as these things can happen. So staff spawned a ladder in the elevator shaft. However, at this point we already had civpro on the backfoot from what I could see with them deploying smokes in order to retrieve their fallen. This caused us to perform a push on their position in the hopes of making those who were still alive to retreat and leave their fallen and allowing us to escape. Then out of nowhere, civpro came from behind us, which should not have been possible icly as the button for the gate that was sealed was on our side of the conflict. Later I heard this was due to staff spawning a button on the other side for civil protection and straight up private messaging the PT leader about its placement. In my opinion this is blatant metagaming and an abuse of powers to turn the fight favorably towards the combine side which has gone, to this point, unpunished.

Our entire position collapsed and from the 9 people we brought, only 3 survived because of this flank. Not to mention the amount of civpro that were downed twice but not slain after their second down... The entire situation became a clusterfuck of admin intervention. It has become more and more clear to me over these many months that there is in fact a bias against rebels by most of the higherups in the staff team, not to mention them holding high positions within the combine factions. The most shocking of all is Nath's response to the current PK appeals from yesterday's events which sums it up pretty neatly.

The fact that people still believe there is no bias is just laughable at this point, and I really hope that the owner of this community takes a good look into this behavior and begins to address it, because time and time again I've seen complaint after complaint and abuse report after abuse report which have done nothing to improve the current state of the CvR mindset. Yet everything is being done to destroy RebelRP... Vortigaunts being nerfed to basically be worse then a rebel with an mp7 and rebels not even being able to acquire actually decent equipment over the span of months since the server reopened.

I implore people to hold a civil discussion below with their opinions and evidence, be it for or against this post. By no means do I wish to anger anyone by writing this, my intentions are merely to improve the server for everyone. Because as it stands, I am of the impression that rebelrp will completely fall silent, which like it or not, will affect the entire server.

I think the reason, why the Anti-Rebel bias is happening, is precisely for two reasons.

1 - Previous Rebel Leads were super P2W and promoted pure scripting only, and, overall, were a lot more P2W based, than RP based.

And 2 - People have trauma from i24 and C8, where Rebels did stuff every single damned day.

While I don't agree with it, and I do despise bias of any kind, it's SOMEWHAT understandable.

So i don't know why but the beanies have been nerfed, instead of giving max insulation, its now heavy. But even with 3x Heavy, 2x Medium and 1x light insulation clothing set, its impossible to travel into the outlands without freezing. your ass off

yes but thats not the point, the point is why change it?
I've been doing some testing and found that the only real way to cope in the outlands you're gonna need at least:

x3 Extremes (Currently unobtainable outside of OTA and Civil Protection given beanies got transformed into heavy)

x2 Mediums

X1 Light

holy shit what, thats way more intense than last time

The problem here isn’t just a mindset thing. Sure, rebels blame everything on the cops, and the cops blame everything on the rebels. That’s whatever. That’s a toxicity issue, and it’s on staff to hammer it down or stop adding fuel to the fire in Discord.

The real issue here is when staff decides to step into situations where they don’t need to. That’s where it starts impacting and causing real problems on the server. This is why I’ve been saying over and over that we need less reliance on staff and GMs. Every single time staff or a GM intervenes, it turns into a disaster, especially when no one asked for it or when it wasn’t necessary.

No, you shouldn’t step in just because one side is outgunned or at a disadvantage.
No, you shouldn’t add a button to a door mid-combat because it wasn’t on the map.
No, you shouldn’t make a portal for a locked-off area just to even the odds.
No, you shouldn’t take over a strider or a hunter just because CCR is getting run over.
And no, you shouldn’t hop on a chopper because rebels are sitting in the woods watching the Combine base.

Don’t interfere. Let things play out. If it’s not a critical bug, a player stuck on a prop, or something broken that absolutely needs fixing, stay out of it. Let the players handle it. Let them problem-solve. Let it be okay to lose sometimes. Let narratives happen naturally—let the CA get killed, let sabotage succeed.

Stop wrapping everything in red tape.

Let us have agency.

Thank you.

EDIT:
To add onto my previous point regarding rebels overpowering Combine, which has happened in the past seems like this is something staff is overly anxious about. That anxiety has clearly bled into heavy punishments and unfair treatment of certain rebel players, and that’s not okay.

This brings me to another request, not just for staff but for the council too: let the Faction Leaders do their jobs.

Stop butting into other people’s lanes. Stay in yours. Quit trying to manage other factions when it’s not necessary, especially when we have capable and competent leaders like @ClapTrap and @Ozzekiel These are people who have done a great job running the Combine faction over the past few months.

For example, when we moved to Terminal Seven, one of my biggest complaints was how there’s an abundance of credits with nowhere to spend them—no credit sink and after th wipe it would prob end up the same. But for Civil Protection, who rely on firearms daily, there is a sink: ammo. I brought this up to ClapTrap and suggested increasing ammo prices. I explained why it’s important—how it helps bleed credits, prevents bloat, and stops people from buying 30 boxes of 9mm for a single fight.

ClapTrap didn’t wait. Within a day, the prices were adjusted.

Another example: when starting terminal seven the only way for rebels to get materials was to go and trade with the cwu, some cps were seen inside the slums for whatever reason stripping and searching everyone, even patrolling, the rebel scene was completely fucked and to have cps searching and halting it more is extremely damaging.

I reached out to claptrap, and within the same day the issue was fixed.
Same for ooc and /looc abuse during rp situations where I was trying to interact during a very tense situation and all I could see is jokes being cracked in loo and /cp. Same day a warning was out in announcements regarding this.

This is exactly why you need to let FLs do their jobs. Don’t micromanage them. Don’t restrict them. Don’t overstep or undo their work.

Because honestly, if at the end of the day staff or the council is going to decide everything, then what’s the point of having an FL?
