Background
Courtney grew up in Quebec Canada. She was an orphan child and often had to move between different foster homes, which resulted in her being very shy and withrdawn from most social interactions as she always met new families and was never able to form any bonds or social skills.
Learning french was part of the education in the school she has attended and spoke french most of the time with her "friends" or other orphans in foster homes.
The thought about her parents giving her away shortly after birth always tore her apart, when she was alone at night in her bed trying to sleep. the daily crying in soltitude in her bed helped her with hiding any form of emotions throughout the day.
A year before the Seven hour war when Courtney was 11 she had moved into the last foster home she would ever experience before the war.
At first it was a foster home like any other, mother, father, two children and three dogs, courtney elizabeth, another foster child.
But something was different, the father of the foster home was punishing only courtney and elizabeth for things that their own children did, at first it was something like going to bed without dinner but not long after the father started to physically abuse them with beatings and the use of his belt for punishment.
A year later, one week before the seven hour war after both of them had to endure the abusement of the father. It got to the point where the father got so drunk and angry from his own children achieving worse grades in school since the two foster children moved in, that he beat up elizabeth until she got unresponsive and the mother had to call an ambulance and the police, as this was the final straw.
As the father turned to Courtney in order to continue with his punishement she was already gone through an open window in the livingroom.
While running off she could hear the father curse at her and the police approaching the house.
courtney did not bother to look back and ran as far as she could in to the city.
She remained hidden in abandoned buildings, and alleys avoiding the police and child services with the fear of getting sent back to the foster home.
Without any identity or support she quickly had to rely on stealing food and spending the nights in different locations in order to not get in to any trouble with the homeless.
In the turn of events, the combine attacked earth and Courtney had no place to hide and was forced to survive on her own.
The recent events caused courtney's personality to shift as she realized that the only person there for her was herself from now on.
She managed to remain hidden the entire invasion but was caught a couple of days later malnourished inside of an abandoned building by combine forces and had been relocated with the remaining civilians of Quebec.
Other than the adults she had been sent to an education center and shortly after in to forced labor.
For years she had to do hard labor until she eventually was relocated to city-1, she was one of the luckier children that managed to not get involved or die in a work incident.
She remained in City-1 and attended to daily workshift in which she would earn herself a living.
People often approached her in order to do small talk but most of the times Courtney just walked off or did not even talk at all.
The harsh treatment of the Combine Invaders reminded her of the father in the foster home, causing flashbacks and sleepless nights, which ended up in her developing a hate towards the combine regime.
In the year 2019 when Courtney grew older and developed more skills and even started making some "friends" she got part of a mass relocation order due to her often clashing with civil protection officers and eventually got sent to city-24.
