Half-Life: Alyx establishes the fact that cats are very common in C17. You see at least one in basically every part of the game's intro level. Therefore, having many cats walking around is perfectly lore accurate.

Absolutely agree Neonity 👍 🤝 👏 👌 🙌 💯

It'd be cool to see but Willard has the tendency of having many weirdos so I wouldn't trust anybody with that whitelist

Please add this.
I don't care if you have to write animations or whatever it is you nerds do.
I will donate 5 gold dablooms if this is added.

While this is memed, this would unironically be a good addition to the server.

Natural pet, so it makes sense for cats to be around people. Can hunt and screw around with birds. Generally just offers a neat custom faction that would slot nicely in with human players

Far more than birds or crabs.

CPs would kill cats though, because why would they want you to be happy

Suggestion: Add Cat faction to rival the Birds.

- Cat Ragdolls & Playermodels
- Half Life: Alyx Cats

For years I've been talking about how this is very unlikely to ever happen. The code has been written for this years ago and promptly scrapped due to busted assets. People will then proceed to link me to the HL Alyx rips, or to other cat assets ripped from other games, both which have much the same problems and just will not work.

In HL2 birds are fully complete AI. They can walk, they can run, they can fly, you can shoot them and when they die they ragdoll correctly. So, asset wise, they have a full suite of synchronized locomotion animations. This makes mapping player inputs into a locomotion system for them quite trivial, as does other complete AI NPCs mapped to whitelists (such as scanners, OTA, CPs, etc..)

In HL Alyx the cats are little more than set dressing with baked animation sequences specific to the scene they are in. They do not have walk cycles, run cycles, properly rigged skeletons for IK locomotion, and so on. The various S1 ports attempt to fix this by using a single keyframe as an unsynchronized walkcycle which completely breaks down at helix walk speeds and looks awful.

On top of that, all of the other workshop suggestions have the same problems as above:
  1. Poorly aligned skeletons
  2. Low quality textures & models (due to them being decompiled from some other game)
  3. Collision and physics issues
  4. Complete lack of ragdoll support (will just T-Pose on death)
  5. Numerous quadrapedal locomotion issues...
For this to look half decent you'd essentially have to start over. Use the HL Alyx cat as a base (maybe) but make new textures and a new skeleton thats better suited for source 1 and aligned better to the mesh. Then you would have to create all new quadrapedal animation sequences for all the various states (idle, walk, run, sit, etc) that are properly synchronized. Then you have to create the hitboxes and all the other bits and bobs needed for ragdolls to work properly.

After you have all of that work you'd have something as basic as the bird animation set and you could then code a player driven locomotion system for it. If you want it to actually look good (like bipedals such as humans and OTA, striders, hunters, etc.) you'd need to do it all through $ikchain instead but it'd take a ton of script support.

The only way I ever see this happening is by someone paying a proper animator a ton of money to do this. Someone who is skilled in modeling, rigging skeletons, creating realistic looking quadrapedal locomotion sequences, and is also familiar with doing it in a way that will play nice with S1. I doubt that there are many people like that out there, and many less which would be willing to do it for a GMOD RP server no less.

However, if someone like that does materialize and wishes to help us out with such a task, then I'd be happy to code in the faction.
