The state of Rebel RP.

The current state of Rebel RP is in clear shambles due to all the changes happening both OOC and ICly, nobody is satisfied anymore, there is a lot of OOC hatred/prejudice from both Admins and Players and frankly, I'm kind of at a point where I can't be arsed to even log onto the server anymore. Why should I keep grinding and grinding and grinding away, slaving away at some trash bag/crate mechanic JUST to get fucked over by OOC changes that I have no influence over because Staff decide so.

Well, I've written down a few points below at what is currently wrong with Rebel RP and how everyone has to jump through 700 loops to change anything, or try to better anything.

The Intranet.

The intranet relay used to be an IC item that you had on you and could RP the usage of ICly. There was already a risk bc there aren't a lot of private places you can go to inside of the city.

Now, group intranets are removed so you can't even communicate with your own group via the relay AND you can't be outside of your base and use the intranet because of (??) reasons, this only helps in fucking over Rebel RP since there are about 3 based that Civil Protection/OTA won't be able to raid (WD Base, Sentinels base and Nameless base), but... We don't have 3 active groups, we have about 10 of them, what about those other 7? Also, if we push this change through, rebel communication will get even worse and it's already at an all time low. Rebels aren't a unified faction, or something close to it. Rebels don't have a whitelist, don't have OOC checkups regarding their activity and actions and RP quality so it's already near impossible to communicate with everyone.

Before, we used to have group relays to help with the communication, at least from within your group, not to forget all the leaders had access to the big intranet (if they were given access to it ICly by another rebel leader) and this was perfect, The Gameplay Manager Robert even told the Rebels that we didn't abuse any of the given relays, not the group ones nor the one for rebel leaders but we were just fucked over since everyone else got it removed for their continous abuse of it.

The GM/Arc problem.

Currently, Gutsy is making a system where each group will have a GM that will cater them with their needs. This will make the workload be more shared, thus less possibility of a burn-out or admins ignoring you.

Isn't it crazy that someone has to jump through 700 loops to make sure that Rebels are able to get a GM? Sure, GMs might not always be available and sure, this and that... But it's come to this far as a point where Rebels don't have any directions to go in because the current arc... What arc? Nobody knows what the point of this 'debt arc' is, IF they even know it exists.

Rebel RP is currently being kept alive by GM quests and Expeditions, the second one not even being rewarding enough so let's get onto the next point.

Expedition rewards.

I think almost everyone has heard about this by now, Expeditions just aren't worth it.

During the expedition some time ago where we went into the C24 sewers to break a few Infestation hearts, we fought about a million Antlions, we had OTA roaming around, we fought Antlion Guards and what more. The original reward that was agreed upon by Gutsy and a few members of the staff team was; 9 Weapons distributed among the groups, the biggest groups getting the most weapons and then 2500 chips if you didn't get a weapon.

Considering the huge nerf rebels went through, how stacked the odds were against us (OTA being overpowered as hell) it's absolutely unfathomable that 2 members of the Staff team were able to 'emergency reset' the rewards of the expedition because, in their words, WE FAILED THE EXPEDITION. Now, that clearly isn't right because the objectives were as followed: Destroy the infestation hearts, do not fight OTA, get one of those Xen Crystals, find the Sentinels scout and their map and don't die. Considering we did all of these objectives perfectly, I don't understand why staff team had to nerf it.

Maybe the dangers weren't big enough? You know, the overpowered OTA roaming around, the million Antlions (red and spitters as well) being spawned on us. Or how about the Hydras when you jumped down blind into a pool of water, almost insta-killing you if you went near the scout?
Oh wait, maybe it's the fact that OTA didn't engage us... You know, the OTA that RAN WAY FROM US. That Admins allowed to just open one of those access points which were never meant to be open when we were holding them at gunpoint to ambush them?

But sure, we didn't do enough, we failed the objectives, we failed the expedition, we failed the dangers, not enough dangers... Sure!

GOI

Remember GOI, the awesome thing that was going to FIX the server, remember how it was hyped up and worked on for months, if not years? Well, it's a loyalist update and it was NOT made with Rebels in mind.

You know, I lead a rebel group 'The People's Front'/'Die Vereinigte Volksfront' and we had this awesome plan to stage a coup where we wanted to steal a fabricator. I have joined the CWU on my rebel char after becoming friends/acquantances with a lot of loyalists to not have any suspicion aroused around me, and the plan was slowly (very slowly) going to be set in motion.

So, we talk about it in our little rebel chat in the Underground Discord "Hey, is the plan still up?"

Oh.. Okay? The Update that was supposed to fix the server... Isn't made with rebels in mind... You know, the driving force of a server? Without a rebellion you don't have a server.

On the topic of expeditions, in defense of the gamemasters and staff members, you could not have expected a large jackpot when you bring over twenty rebel players to an expedition. This was an oversight of the leading gamemaster, admittedly, but this should be readily apparent. The threat was significantly reduced the moment that twenty rebels were brought, so it’s understandable that rewards were reduced last second.

Furthermore, I am appalled that OTA is being reamed again. Here’s our side. We were given tasks to do, which did NOT include pursuing and killing rebels. With this, you are not our priority. We are there to accomplish these objectives and leave, this is what we did. It’s why we didn’t push out and try to kill you all, which we most certainly would’ve with our new balancing. It’s why I told my faction members to play defensively, from there I left it to the ordinal attending. If you all had arrived beforehand, then sure, we would have had to push ourselves in. Otherwise, no, we’re not going to go out of our way to decimate the rebel scene. Don’t skew the narrative. The odds were not stacked against you, no matter how you try to spin it.

I'm not talking about the tasks being given to you guys, it wasn't one of our objectives to do that shit. We only wanted a crystal and we got it.

My problem is, is that we had a perfect ambush spot where the OTA had to push through the subway (1 by 1) and the vorts could vortbeam them easily while the rest waiting around the entrance to unleash hell on them (A plan I had constructed) and GMs at the time just decided to ignore our ambush and let you guys escape from another spot.

Also, you're clearly contradicting yourself here, no? "Oh the odds weren't stacked against you, BUT... if we wanted to push you, we would've killed you guys EASILY and KILLED Rebel RP". What about that sentence makes sense? The odds were clearly stacked against us if you agreed that OTA could've killed us easily.

And despite the fact we knew that we could die, we still set up an ambush with 2 vorts, shotguns, SMG, an OTAR and everything just so we could delay you guys (or kill) so that you didn't make it to the main group. A lot of narrative could've happened if the GMs didn't allow u guys to deus-ex your way out of the situation.

Furthermore, despite OTA not rushing us, clearly the danger was still there? Why are we being punished because YOU decided that OTA shouldn't push us? We had no say on the matter and if it was up to us we would've fought you guys there. Thus, the risk still applies.

We were there for the crystal as well, mainly to blow it up. We got there first.

The odds would have been stacked against you if you were under any actual threat from us. You really weren’t since we weren’t meant to go out and kill rebels.

We only escaped due to the quick thinking of our OTA players. Two to three of them picked up a closed gate for our exfil, which is well within the physical capabilities of OTA soldiers. You had an ambush ready, we acknowledged that and countered it. You cannot blame CT for our players thinking outside the box here. If you really wanted to ambush us, maybe it would’ve been better to cut off both points of exit with your twenty rebels.

We got one of the Xen Crystals since the GMs decided to throw some pity on us (No clue either).

The thing is, both IC and OOC we don't know if we were under any threat since... We don't rlly get told "The OTA isn't there for you and won't attack you.". And because they attacked us before they got to the subway, so we were under the impression they were a threat and we were ready to fight.

If you really wanted to ambush us, maybe it would’ve been better to cut off both points of exit with your twenty rebels.
Yeah, my bad... Sorry for not knowing that OTA would escape through a point which hasn't once been opened since the server started... Will try to do so next time, think outside the box and guard the walls, you never know when OTA might storm through with the wallhammer!

Anyhow, this isn't an OTA complaint so please stop clogging up the replies since I don't want to turn this into an entire argument over something so miniscule, I'm annoyed about the 'Risk VS Reward' thing, not what OTA were doing.

Unrelated to the expo, the case about the fabricators is another instance of the people making the decisions being too shit scared to experiment and let rebels get out of the stone age of doing fetch quests and clearing quests that don't mean anything in the longrun. Even this expo, what did it change in the long run?

Nevertheless, the main point is the fabricators. I was told that, apparently, they were deemed 'too powerful' for rebels to have. Despite the material cost to maintain it, and the additional requirement of yet another machine to have it function for long term.

Be real - fabricators did not revolutionize CityRP. As cynical as it may seem to say, they aren't and never were gonna be some sole saving grace of city rp. So why not allow something this meticulously developed to see use outside of mundane workshifts? This 'Debt Arc' is kind of a snooze, so let it be used for more than workshifts.

This is not to say it is completely and utterly the rebels fault, but I think man of the rebels are terminally unaware of the situation they've brought to themselves when it comes to the roleplay aspect. I've never had a full-on underground rebel character on Willard. But whereas I've had some of the best passive City RP I've had in my time playing HL2RP on this server, I've had some of the most distasteful Rebel RP I've had in my time playing HL2RP here also. Literally all of my Rebel RP experiences have been about maximizing script hoarding and minimizing the roleplay aspect. Rebel RP is simply unfulfilling because barring a couple individuals there is no RP. Increasing expedition rewards, loot rates or anything else won't help you, if you don't believe me ask anyone else their most memorable RP moments and I assure most if not all people here will relate to a scenario involving a personal drama or a passive RP scenario.

Serhan, with all due respect, in order to have good passive, you have to luck into it. Having a riveting conversation about when the rations will open for five hours isn't possible.

People seem to think everyone is a conversational wizard. Some people want to have meaningful and short conversations, while others dont mind pointless long chatter. Making it a catch-all issue of rebels choosing to be scriptwhores when in reality passiverp opportunity is as fickle as any other rp opportunity is the real issue.

You said it yourself, you don't have a full-on underground rebel character. You wouldn't know what it's like to be a part of the group. You don't know how much the Volksfront (my group) has put into helping others, the amount of time we've been passive rp'ing inside of our base to set up plans, to discuss problems.

If you aren't a part of any groups, and you simply walk around in the slums/sewers and barge into people and try to do whatever... Ofcourse they don't give a shit about you.

Also, you can't really start a rebellion without having 'scripts' can you? There's only so much Passive RP a group can do before they want to actively contribute to the rebellion. Increasing Expedition rewards would actually tremendously help passive RP, people would need to grind less for their common materials, it's much more rewarding to plan expeditions with your group.

Please don't speak about Rebel problems if you have no clue what you're talking about.

The expedition reward was appropriately scaled by GT depending on the current rebel economy along with the danger of the expo and considering gutsy wasn't CT at the time yet he couldn't have known what is appropriate or not, so no blame to him here but it had to be adjusted as it was extremely overtuned to what the standard should be, and it was.

Take into consideration that this was only one expedition in the line of many that are upcoming, you shouldn't expect one expo to suddenly bolster you up to an insane amount.

For GOI it was deemed that it was too easy to pump out infinite amounts of chips using the fabricators so to save the developers hundreds of hours fine tuning something that only a handful of people would get to use they were deemed not to be used by the rebel scene. Someone else in the staff team with more experience with GOI could probably word this better than me.

I think I couldn't word it the way I intended to. So, sorry; that's on me.

While it is true that your RP experience will not stay consistent across the board from one play to another, pointless chatter itself can become fun, and memorable.

Take, for example, my interaction with Luna Ricci at Industrial 17 Baltic Cafe. Even though it did not go anywhere more than a name exchange, a couple chess matches and small talk, it was memorable due to the ambience. In a rebel RP scenario, the interactions rarely go anywhere with no meaningful character development whatsoever. At least not according to my experience.

Your agression is absurd and meaningless. Just because I'm not a directly involved in it doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it. I'm a part of the community for as long as you've been here and I don't appreciate how you respond to critism.

Congratulations on how much your faction has accomplished but you are not single-handedly solving what I've said about the Rebel RP earlier.

Maybe the staff is biased against you because they are tired of reading another Don Lorenzo appeal and tired of responding to many more shotcops happening on the server every single day?

If you read it correctly Astro he's not reaming OTA he's saying they were a threat, part of the threat that was ignored.

The "Current" economy is fucked, the reward was submachineguns for fucks sakes. Something, that even as BMD's we can't sell. I went through the loops to make sure that this reward was authorized by everyone, Neonity, Bassilisk, Rad-X and in my personal opinion the danger WAS there. Players are sick of the shit rewards of Expeditions and I agree. Expeditions ARE the path for which rebels progress, without that ability, you're fucking not just the Rebel Economy but player progression in total.

Your entire argument is based on personal experiences and clear prejudice against Rebels. You've never had a rebel, like you said so yourself, so it'd be counter-productive of you to comment on things since you're out of the loop. I wouldn't comment on CMRU things either because I've never had a CMRU character, it makes sense.

I'm naming my group as an example, I know multiple groups which handle things through passive RP. Hell, a group you probably don't even know about (White Dove) does things through a Passive RP only way. Sentinels, they handle things within the rebellion and try to keep everyone organised and make expeditions for people to go through and have big planning meetings.

You don't know what you're talking about if you've never had a rebel that was officialy part of any groups. Sure, there are shitty encounters within the Sewers, I've had my fair share of those and no doubt have I also contributed to those before. Just like you've had shitty experiences within the City and probably contributed to it as well

To say one 'RP' fashion is objectively better is obnoxious, only makes people annoyed and is completely unwarranted.

I also don't care about any bias against me, it only goes to show how much I can achieve while there is a clear bias against me. Also, not related to the complaint so please don't bring up things that don't matter, thank you!

Daww finally a good thing was said about my group, almost brings a tear to my eye.

I miss rebel rp. Economy is trashed. Low rebel morale due to characters getting killed off or caught (which is more often than not the players fault). The fact that rebels have been down scaled to junk riffles and pistols while we have a lot of cops with mp5's thatve been able to buy their way to that rank. What you essentially have is 25-30 rebel mains that when they die, HAVE to start over while you can have an infinite number of i3's rotating in and out because they can cashapp to a higher rank.

In terms of rewards, I agree that they're often underhanding what rewards are handed out and I'm unsure if it's due to how they want to keep rebels out of power or what's going on with that.

Are you being intentionally dense?

Hell, a group you probably don't even know about (White Dove) does things through a Passive RP only way.

I can't tell if this is trolling or genuine. No harm intended to White Doves or any other rebel faction, I'm curious whether you think I can't look anywhere beyond CMRU Discord.

To say one 'RP' fashion is objectively better is obnoxious, only makes people annoyed and is completely unwarranted.

I never said passive RP > everything. Stop with the you like apples, then you must hate oranges mentality. I just mentioned like everyone else that RP part of the game is ignored more in the rebel side than the city side.

Maybe if you had read what I've been saying instead of forum reacting to my post after you've read them in the first place as a poor PR strategy you would've understood the writing on the wall.

This conversation is pointless, because you can't get over the fact that someone else can say what they think about a major faction of the server that they play on.

@ItsLiam Did you know that the SC were afraid of the original rewards for the expo being 3x AK's, 3x MP5's, 3x MP5SD's being used for shotcopping.

What else are we going to use the guns on? Why are you so afraid of rebels being rebels? This isn't a fresh launch, this is a continuation of the last iteration with a new ipad minigame added in. Please do not treat it like this is a beginning of the server where everyone starts fresh.

Cops are able to buy their way to i3 which unlocks the MP5. The MP5 has 55% AP and 10-11 dmg.

So you essentially have probably double or near triple amount of mp5's to bastard SMG's. We are stomped out in everyway which wouldn't be so bad if the rewards were worth the trouble on the expos.

Another thing- where are the BMD's? Why can they not sell SMG's? Why are you limiting us SO BADLY?

I'm glad liam made this post because my whining would go unnoticed.

I’m going to be talking closely with the rebel reps to see how we can take steps forward. I’ll let you know about any developments.

I've had some of the most distasteful Rebel RP I've had in my time playing HL2RP here also. Literally all of my Rebel RP experiences have been about maximizing script hoarding and minimizing the roleplay aspect. Rebel RP is simply unfulfilling because barring a couple individuals there is no RP.
It's honestly unfortunate that you haven't had the chance to enjoy good rebel RP on this server but, this isn't the case for everyone. Some of my most memorable moments on this server has been hiding out in the sewers and making plans, interacting with others, and overall enjoying what it has to offer.
Serhan, with all due respect, in order to have good passive, you have to luck into it. Having a riveting conversation about when the rations will open for five hours isn't possible.
As M3ntal noted, I do agree there is a certain aspect of "luck" to getting connected with the right people and enjoying the "rebel scene" which has become a bit more difficult over time due to recent things implemented.

I can't tell if this is trolling or genuine. No harm intended to White Doves
Personally, I am VERY pro passiveRP. I don't like shotcopping that often and to ensure the server is more enjoyable for S2K I often shoot to miss on both my rebel and my cop (I am certainly not coping for the fact that I am a terrible shot). There is often quite a bit of passiveRP that happens within the sewers. The recent shotcops and drama like the loyalist housing being exploded has been planned by players who have legitimate reasons to attack, or the French for lore reasons.

Another thing- where are the BMD's?
I'm not sure. I wish there were more BMD's active, though.

PREACH!
