'Cyrus'

Hardened by years of indentured servitude to greater masters both new and old. 'Cyrus' as he has taken to calling himself - is a self-styled visionary and leader of a Resistance faction known only as: The Ra'Nach'Hii (Rah Nah Hee).

His true Vortal title is a well-kept secret. Even to his own kind for reasons which are not entirely clear, perhaps a relic of his long history with servitude. His personality within a cage, a prisoner within his own mind. Nonetheless, Cyrus speaks with a degree of eloquence uncommon among most Vortigaunts and for those around him, it almost makes him... human. A strange concept to imagine for a xeno that once upon a time, was part of the genocidal army on this world but then again it is within a Vortigaunt's nature to adapt and survive.

Though while his brothers concern themselves with their duel with destiny, that being their most ancient foe - The Ulathoi. Cyrus concerns himself with what he refers to as "Intellectual pursuits" for he is rather open in his defiance of the consensus that the Combine on Earth cannot be defeated and rather, advocates that the resistance must adapt the Combine's technologies to their aims. While many dream of an Earth that returns to the state of things before, Cyrus has studied his kind's long and sordid history and remains devout in his belief that victory over the Combine can only be achieved through the adaptation of the resources around them: The Vortessence, Xen, Humanity and even the Combine are merely tools to be wielded by those who seek to forge their own destiny.

Such ideas are often met with ideological resistance from those within other factions, for it shatters the delusion that Earth can ever be restored to it's original state and while he wrestles with uniting the resistance under the banner of the Ra'Nach'Hii, his own dreams of a reality where the Combine are defeated by the survivors and technologies of their former conquests are perhaps, idealistic and appeals to his grandiose vision of the future but nonetheless he provides more than a simple means to defeat the Combine. But a plan that brings hope for the future.

Perhaps that is why many choose to follow him despite his unorthodox ideas, the dream of an Earth free of the Combine speaks to the human and Vortal spirit in a way few resistance causes can but yet, the long shadow of their most ancient foe has a way of swallowing up dreams within this new reality.

And Reality...

Is where dreams go to die...

Lawful Evil

"The line that separates us from beasts is honour. I have my honour, I paid for it long ago and now - destiny lay within our hands... "

"My hands..."

"I will not allow Earth to become the gravestone for my race."

"Whatever it takes, No matter the cost..."

"I shall reign triumphant!"

The Ulathoi (The Combine)

"A worthy adversary, their power knows no equal, at least... not yet. One day, I promise I shall conquer them as they have us and only then shall justice be done."

Civil Protection

"They do what they are told to do. Protect. Protect the order of society and for me, that is just how I like the world. Orderly, efficient and cold. Anyone who claims they are less than human should perhaps ask themselves if they truly have any humanity left... for what is worth protecting, than family?"

Civil Administration

"Those few perhaps bold enough, or foolish enough to become intertwined with the Combine's machine. Yet, they hunt power... so do I... a weakness that has toppled greater men and women. They are not ignorant to the state of the world I know one day, they will seize their chance to rule the world. I must be the one to make the first move in this twisted game."

The Citizenry

"They are making the best of a bad situation, no one can blame them for holding onto the remnants of their past. They are too sedentary and if left to their own devices, will not survive the liberation. They must be forced to evolve."

The Resistance

"A blunt instrument perhaps but a useful one. Dangerous though, for one can never know the limits of human stupidity..."

The Vortigaunts

"We all drink from the same well, yet not all of us see things the same way. Still, my goals are perhaps more noble than most. I trust that will appeal to their nature of the "greater good" in due course."

The Ra'Nach'Hii

"We are the hope for the future, where others have failed we shall succeed! Few others can claim they hold such a concrete vision and that is why the Ra'Nach'Hii shall live on, even if I should ever fade away..."
