This is not an official thread/poll. I am just curious what both Rebels and CP players think of the new PK rules for sweeps:
(Welcome to comment your thoughts down below)
  1. De-ranks for CP reinforcements following a shotcop, to discourage every single CP from immediately flooding the area by adding a slight amount of risk to them
  2. More NLR's for rebels in retaliatory sweeps (unless the target of the sweep or captured) to avoid collateral PK's. The no-refund given instead should still encourage rebels to keep their heads down during a sweep however.
  3. Shadow sweeps are now always a PK for CP's. Only captured rebels face a PK, whereas any bystanders face NLR no refund.

The Policy is great and I think works just fine - albeit a bit more complex than what we had. It's much better.

It’s good that the administration team is fishing for solutions on this issue but I feel the PK rule will do nothing but encourage more hardline activity- especially for civil protection. What I mean by this is; since cops now have the lingering chance of a PK dangling over their head like BOL, their extremist self preservation will only increase, resulting in less unique rp interactions and well… more interactions like the Gustavo Baldo and Claris Gregovich
Interaction- I believe this more or less tried to even the playing felid instead of encourage RP.

My hot fix for the combine would be to strictly regulate sweep headcounts, especially for shadowsweeps. No one likes joining to meet a nine man PK force. Instead why not have an interesting encounter with a 3 man transhuman kill squad? Y’know.. so the player might actually /survive/? It’s out of the question the combine is overpowered so its measuring that power that really matters- we could argue what warrants a PK till our tongues fall out I personally think that if you make the PK fair, not by criteria standard but by encounter- the player will accept their death. If you bum rush eight ceepees into gutter don’t go scratching your head when rebel players start to trickle away.

I still don't even know what this means If I am being honest. Genuinely makes it sound like CP's get auto-deranked for just backing up a unit in trouble...which is strange, if so.

As for the rest? I don't know. It all just seems to further cheapen already stale interactions between Rebels and CP's. Really CP's have zero reason to pursue any conflict with rebels unless its on the defensive now. Assuming they don't just start dragging bleeding rebels out of the slums and "Capturing" them for the sake of actually being able to PK them. (Massive loophole)

Rebels also take a hit, since any CP's who sweep in retaliation (Or just because) are also immune to PK. Meaning that too doesn't matter in the slightest, outside of just grabbing their scripts. Only time CP's can be killed in the slums is if they are doing a shadow sweep...which just means CP's probably won't do those, since why risk the PK for nothing?

Combat between Rebel and Combine factions is now pretty much just a battle of trying to remove as many scripts from the field as possible. While also doubling the size of the PK ruleset, making it harder to grasp. Aside from all that, the thing I hate most about Willards Combine vs Rebels aspect is that none of it matters even one bit. This basically just makes it official from my point of view.

I think this one is good in theory, but has some punishments depending on how the shotcop proceeds. If the shotcop takes place on one, lone unit, naturally the amount of reinforcements that come will be delayed and or greater because all the units are somewhere else. As it stands, the problem with the issue is that the entire force will promptly proceed to flood the entire area, leaving the group who enacted the shotcop to essentially have to fight the entire online population of CPs.

I think headcount is important to this. Keeping the amount of CP's involved in a sweep is key. However, having smaller headcounts AND also enacting a stricter PK policy for CPs is a bit brutal on the CP side. Not only are you restricted in terms of force, but now you are constantly at risk of de-ranking? I personally believe that this first one should be handled on a more admin-determined criteria. I think that, if a sweep is below a certain amount of CP, then maybe the demotion criteria is removed. Naturally, this encourages rebels to always commit a shotcop with a certain amount of people, so that they can always handle a sweep with the maximum amount of units that would not be a de-rank. Naturally, any sweep over this number will be demotion-per-death, but with the idea that having more CPs outweighs the risk of sweeping.

This is good. I like this a lot.

I like this because shadow sweeps are basically CPs just rocking up to a scene and fucking shit up silently. A full blown PK is a bit risky, but.... Shadow sweeps are a force that should be heavy, well equipped, and fighting ready. Their element is surprise, so it makes sense at least for now.

I too believe the PK policy should be re-assessed especially if headcounts become mandatory (which they should) Again: I want rules to encourage RP, putting a constant fear of de-ranking/perma kills over the units head will only make them act more inhuman and calculated, conducting sweeps from a more self-preservationalist standpoint rather than allowing interesting intraction. I think we should focus on headcount instead of PKs/deranks. I believe this would only promote RP and spawn more interesting scenarios instead of the immidete game over by a group of three rebels stumbling upon a group of nine CPs.

My question is; why under this criteria would you not want to stack the deck in your favour as a cop, or worst case respond at all? You can be PK'd from responding to a shotcop and unless I am mistaken you still face a PK from sweeping in general too.

I support rebel NLR's but all this has done together is flip the problem. NLR cops too in sweeps unless they're shadow sweeps and you'll find a better middle ground.

I ain’t a fan simply because it makes it even more difficult to ensure people actually die. Now the majority of combat will be useless, or just getting scripts of the field like @RedHotGinger said. It’s was already hard enough to kill somebody before, since every death is appealed. Now it’ll be close to impossible.

While it’s slightly hypocritical on my part considering I baby raged over being executed by a vortigaunt awhile ago (which was cringe of me), I think these rules should be revised a bit to avoid every fair / semi-fair death being appealed.

I don't think its that important combat results in a PK. Especially with these rules, which are literally just meant to save people from dying in a sweep that had nothing to do with. But even in regular combat, winning against the other side means denying them their objective, not mentioning the scripts.

The objective 80% of the time, is the people that are being targeted. Especially for CP's.

not mentioning the scripts.

It is true, that this is one of the only things that now matter in combat. For CP's, combat is just a way to deny rebels weapon. For rebels, its just a way to get more.
Not very interesting, or narrative defining, tbh.

I don't think its that important combat results in a PK.

While it sucks, yes, PK's are a needed part of the server and the story in general. Without them, nothing of note changes. The same people continue to do the same things, endlessly, without any real mortal threat making them think twice. There is no upheavals in leadership, no secondary development for those that survive them. No tangible change in interpersonal narratives. Every single death, one of the most important tools in any story, is just 'some guy'. The people this new ruleset protects the most, are the kind of rebels that walk around in full kit when taking a generic stroll.

If you become a rebel or CP, you should be able to accept that death is a possibility.

Denying the Rebel's objective is their objective. Unless you mean sweeps specifically for the enemy, in which they are PK'd.

I don't think its cringe at all tbh? In fact if anything it highlighted the massive problem of how hyper-lethal things were.

The incentive for cops and rebels was to play as hard as they possibly could to get out of a sweep alive. People complained about the executions mid combat or not making roleplay but literally what incentive did you have to do anything different? Making roleplay in an area where any death was a PK wasn't sensible for either side.

Add that to the fact that rebels knew the size of every response that could be sent in against them and you had even less reason. There was that case of a cop being captured and they got their gear stolen and executed. Great, I guess?

But killing random rebels who did nothing but passive in the sewers and get unlucky does no more for the 'narrative' than the new rule that cops can be killed for responding to a shotcop does.
