Backstory

Early Life.
Hastings was born to a very unique family. With his mother being constantly posted to British Embassies overseas, him and his brother went to visit her regularly. This explains why Arthur has known German and Russian from a very early age. The young Hastings witnessed some historical things: The Fall of the Berlin Wall. the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Gulf Wars. Not much is known about Arthur's schooldays, except for his university stories. Studied in Cambridge, then at Queen Mary. Arthur's early days were long gone before he knew what was to come.

"Imagine waking up to a Portal Storm in your backyard with the worst hangover after the last day of university"

The Brother. The Doctor. The Loyalist.
Hastings found himself in City 2 at the dawn of Combine's rule. Luckily enough, he landed a pretty good position in the local CMU Branch. With his family being split up all over the remainders of the Old World, he still manages to find ways to stay in touch. One day Arthur decided to go down to one of the pubs for a quick drink at the end of the workday. Nothing was out of the ordinary, until the Civil Protection marched in to carry out a random search on all the patrons. The dentist must've said something in Russian to himself, not expecting an officer to respond to him in the same language. That is how he got acquainted with one of the officers in Civil Protection in City 2. Maybe the duo will meet again in the future.

Hastings and his Arabian Misadventures.

As part of the Relocation Program, Arthur settled down in City 55, which would still be called by its previous name, Dubai, by some Old Timers. New City, unfamiliar faces. Hastings decided to join the CMU once again, just for the sake of having a chance to put his mind to work. He occasionally jokes about having seen things ordinary people wouldn't believe. The literal embodiment of the Michelin Man himself? Or could it be a patient pumped with so much botox, that her lips look like a pair of donuts? All we know is that Hastings received his Cosmetic Surgery qualification in City 55 and now he is still using the skills to this day.

A Civil Protection officer was sent to CMU after he failed to do a backflip. The guy broke his neck. Seems like he did really try to do a backflip in full uniform and combat kit. Luckily for him, he wasn't sent to City 19 or anything like that.

Ever seen a Michelin Man from those car advertisement posters and outside car dealerships? Well, this one day a female patient walked into the CMU. The madlass dared to ask for more botox than usual. Like a lot. She received what she wanted only to turn into a disfigured mess, similar to a Super Mutant from those Fallout games. The woman's face was absolutely bloated, lips were the same size as donuts from Krispy Kreme. She ended up getting that botox out of her face entirely, which would obviously mean that her skin was stretched far too much. Truly disgusting.

Doctor Poole and Doctor Al-Shakir joked about the Head of the Dental Department having whack teeth. Kinda ironic, innit? Maybe some day I will receive a raise to that position, if hypothetically Doctor Adams were to disappear?

The Genevan Experience.
After City 55 Hastings was sent to Terminal 6 along with another mass of citizens. It was quite the event for him. Hordes of citizens, platoons of officers, sounds of distant gunfire nearly all the time. It didn't last long, no. A couple days later he arrived in City 24. The Jewel of Europe. The man spent some time working in the CMU, treating people, meeting people. What was that movie called again? 'American Psycho', was it? To some, Hastings really did live the life just like in that movie, except he couldn't do one thing that Bateman could. He used to roll with a duo of BOE workers, Sonnenberg and Aston. All was grand in their friend group, until eventually they all went their separate ways. The dentist disappeared but not for long. City 9 was his destination.

The Return.
Our man returned to City 24 once again. It seems like everything has gone back to normal: a job in the CMU, a good apartment, connections and friends. The future is a blank canvas, and Hastings is the painter.
Ferret just keeps on ruining herself. I feel like she needs to stop but at the same time that's practically like saying goodbye to every single bit of revenue the CMU has been making this month (September). I wonder if she will end up like the Michelin Man. Only time will tell.

The Dentist. The Officer. The Protector.
Hastings has spent a couple of months working in the CMU of City 24 once again. After having been satisfied with the work he has done, he found it appropriate to disappear from his current position and land in a spot that would be viewed as dangerous or outright reckless by some people. He may have told his coworkers that he is going to work in City 55, but only a handful of officers really know where he is currently working.

Fuck, I died.

Combine Civil Administration
"Not really much to say here. They just pass laws, relocate a few people here and there, arrest the Leader of the Futurists in City 24. The usual stuff."
"Yeah, Newcastle is funny, he can tell a good joke, all right. I'll give him that."

Loyalists
"Some are good people, some are my friends, some are pathetic human beings. Some things just simply don't change with time. We still live in a society, that's all I can say."

Civil Medical Union
"My job, my vocation, my past."

"I feel like something needs to be changed."

Civil Protection
"The good ol' police. Of course, there's gonna be a couple of jerks and muppets, but usually they're decent guys."
"Been having better conversations with the officers lately."
"Well, I made it in. Now I just stroll and patrol. I think I am fairly certain how the system operates now."

Civil Workers Union
"The people who manage to suffer the most work-related injuries. My clients."

Citizens
"Nothing remarkable, just average citizens who have decided to either come to terms with the New World or they just can't get a job."

The Guard of National Conscience
"An organisation that stands for the values I believe in. I may vocally praise the Combiners but deep below I do think that no one even cares about them and want them gone as soon as possible. The GNC is one of the ways we can bring change to Europe and maybe even the whole planet by at least doing something that is perceived as beneficial by both the ordinary people and the sharks of Union politics, and maybe even the The Man in the High Castle, Breen. I just hope not a single member decides to participate in any form of degenerate behaviour that would get us all killed. We don't want to share the same fate as those plebs that call themselves the futurists."

"GNC is now in a Coalition with the Futurists and our members are slowly getting into the Security Council. Fucking amazing. This is what we were planning on doing and we are now recognised not just in City 24 but in Rome as well. Glorious development."

Vortigaunts
"No. Just no..."

Futurist Movement
"An ideology that relies on violence and space colonisation without consideration for the economic repercussions is destined to fail."
"An unlikely coalition with the GNC against the Legion? Seems like times are changing and I am lagging behind the politics, while I protect the surface dwellers from the degeneracy that is going down in the Subway."

The Resistance
"The what? I thought we called them insurgents, terrorists, hooligans with guns? Anything but just not that. Surely their ideas make sense but violence against citizens is not the way out."

Overwatch Transhuman Arm
"Menacing bastards these guys are. But something still tells me that their existence is just constant pain."
"Now that I see these guys every day, I am certain that they are very disconnected from humanity. If you look at them funny, they just stand there... Menacingly."

Indigent Dwellers
"I can't exactly judge all of them equally. They may be decent people but the fact that they choose to linger in an area which is a hive of scum and villainy makes them pretty suspicious. The fact that I hear gunfire from Slums every now and then makes me want to join Civil Protection just to find out what sort of tomfoolery and banter the officers are partaking in, even if it's only a miniscule amount."

Military Arm Arteria
"Haven't seen them yet, except for the grand entry that they did for recruitment. We can only guess if any of them survive City 2."

Legion of Humanists
"The who?"

The Anti-Futurist Party
"A party that has been created only for the sake of being the opposition to the futurists? Sounds very useless to me. Their members seem to be pretentious individuals. Can't say I like them."

Myself
"There's something that I need to do. It feels like I forgot to do something."
"Will they ever find out?"

"They'll never know. THEY'LL NEVER KNOW."

Percival Hastings

"You cheeky fucker joined the Civil Protection even before I had a clue what you were gonna do. Seems like the City 55 BOE didn't work out for you. I guess you will be able to provide me with some assistance on my new job. Been ages since I last heard from you or mom and dad. Stay safe you funny guy."
Citizen Relations
Edward Perez
"You ever just look at someone and wonder 'what is going on inside their head?'; that's the man. He's the main man of the Tele-Programming department and as practice has shown, journalists can either boost your rep or outright destroy it. Best to stay on good terms with him."

William Osborne
"A journalist, a writer, a colleague and a friend."
"Seems like Osborne will have to lead the GNC with Hawk and without me. Best of luck to them."

Michael Hawk
"The ideologue of the GNC. We agree on many things yet his views are still somewhat different to mine. Glad he's on our side."
"You hosted a glorious venue in collaboration with the Futurists. Never would've guessed that Casto would attend as well. Need to find a way to somehow get in touch with you without violating the regulations."

Christian Gauthier
"The man behind all the CMU posters. A talented man, indeed."

Charis Ferret
"Can't really complain if I make money off your idealistic whims."
"Mmm... I like money."
"You need to stop. CMU Hastings couldn't. So now in comes CP Hastings to put an end to this once and for all."

Cadance Wattmuff
"The Bosslady of CWU. A competent worker and manager, although something is a bit fishy."

Doctor Artyom Pavlovsky
"Ну что ж сказать, психолог из Москвы. Отличный человек и всякое такое."

Doctor Emiyo Marcum
"Bosslady of the CMU. It's still funny to see her beat me at chess."
"I don't think she figured out where I truly went. Nice. I hope it will stay like that for as long as possible."

Doctor James Watson
"The certified CMU cook and surgeon. A good fella with good outlooks on life. Glad to have him with us."

Anthony Whittaker
"Our EMT lad. I guess the Commonwealth still runs strong even after the Union. Absolute champion."
"He better do what I told him to or he will actually fucking die."

Angela Aleinikova
"The mysterious Senior Doctor, as I call her. Seems like a good individual and a skilled surgeon in her field."

Thomas Dunford
"The Leprechaun, as I call him. Doesn't really matter if he's taller than me or any other citizen, but it's just funny to call him that just because he's Irish. A man has proven himself a skilled worker of the CWU. That's a good thing."

Nicolas O'Neil

"My old coworker from the CMU. He now runs a shop and is a member of the GNC. A good man. Considering that he's a GNC supporter, it's better to have him in the party than have him be our opponent."
Civil Protection Relations
STICK-004
"One of the more competent and distinct officers who I've seems to have known for a long time. Man should stay safe in these trying times."

UNION-0
"Sounds very familiar and has similar body language to this one young lad I met last year. Could even be the same guy, but then again, how would I know. Waste Disposal, am I right?"

VICTOR-0
"The Bossman of my squad. He may not be the previous two Rank Leaders but he's a cool fellow."
"A certified fitness enthusiast and a good conversationalist. I always liked when the superiors are on the same wave as their subordinates, it promotes camaraderie."

VICTOR-3
"The Russian of our squad. A swift operator and a good fella. Seems like at long last our paths have intersected once again."

VICTOR-6
"First it was Nell, then she got blasted. Then it was Starrick, no clue where he went. And now we get a Frenchie. The third VICTOR-6 in three weeks. I'm fairly certain she is terrified of seeing me do a lot of things literally on her first day. Guess she's never seen a person being thrown across the room at a wall."

VICTOR-8
"Another Victor in our squad. A good man and a capable investigator, I reckon."
"You left, got relocated as far as I know. Anyway, bon voyage, mate."

The 6'6 Overseer
"A fucking menace of a man. The only time I ever saw him was that one day in the Armoury. He's not Overseer Reyleonard, that's for sure. 'Rank and designation' is the last thing you want to hear from a man like him."

The 7'3 CP
"One of the officers who seems to be more of a public safety hazard than a protector. I'm surprised how he hasn't succumbed to his illness yet."
Apparently the TB has finally gotten to you. I won't be seeing you again, I guess."
