Wher.... where am I? What is this place? Why am I here?
...
Who am I?
The world around me feels so cold... freezing... are my eyes open? I can't tell... it is all so. . . dark. I can't feel anything around me, see anything, smell anything nor touch.. the only thing I feel is this endless and cold darkness which surrounds me. What was I doing last and how did I even get here? I can't seem to remember. Everything is so blurred... can't even touch the ground... wait is there even any ground to touch?
I haven't thought about it too much... but it feels like... feels like I am floating.... or maybe falling? I... can't tell. And my head.... it hurts.. hurts so much. What is going on!?
Must be dreaming... or a nightmare maybe? None of this looks real... I was just enjoying my life happily as a Doct- wait... I was a Doctor... I remember that now.
But where was I working... who was I working for?
The state of the darkness changes, scenes of the real world, a hospital building filled with patients and employees moving around... minding their own business.
Ah... so this was my workplace... I remember now... looks all distorted though.
The vision continues to play just like a video would, moving forward as the man watches part of his past life playback before him. It would continue for a while showing many random characters he knew throughout... with those he did not interact as just blurry dots of black mist. Some he remembered, others he did not.. a few moments later and the vision distorts completely, switching over to scenes of the event known as the Seven Hour War.
Wait... wha.. what is this? Everything is on fire... and I am running... running where though, who fro-
Oh... right I remember now. The war huh? I remember the race known as the Combine invaded Earth after those incidents with those strange things referred to as Portal Storms.
Guess they got through in the end... I wonder what I will see next.
The next few images would flash by... images of his home. his friends, the group he created and ran with, surviving out in the wilds trying to get away from the war and seek help.
Others showed images of destruction... the loss of his friends, saying goodbye to a good friend in New York... and seeing his lover for a split second.
Involuntary tears would run down the man's cheek... feeling the pain of loss... his heart feeling like it is about to burst
Ah... my friends.. a lot of them gone... where are they now.
Nicholas too... left him behind in New York... City One and my lover too... where did I last see her? When can I see her agai-
Wait, City One? New York... oh right, it was renamed. Told by those guys I met.
The Long Haulers right?
His eyes light up in another gathering of his memories of his own accord... remembering all the faces of all those he had met.
Wyatt, Jacob, Alice, Karl, Dragan, Callum... the names appeared into his head. But one name kept repeating itself... "⟊⏃☊☍"
Where has he heard that name before?
As he thought about this strange character, the vision of the ship suddenly appeared. The ship lost in the void.
The pain in his head increased, a sudden weight crushing down on him... his vision was getting blurry once again. He had now realised where he was... he was in the void once again. The cold darkness he feels now... and the one he remembers from the ship are one in the same.
Why am I back here again? We left his place, we finally got out... why am I back here again?
This can't be happening again, I must leave... need to get out of here now.
His struggle was pointless... he was 'alone' in this place. Not a single soul in sight, not a sound and no voices to respond to his yelling.... he then stopped.
Not because he knew no one was around, not because anyone told him to sssh, not because someone responded and not because he wanted to, but rather, the boat he saw was not a vision... it was the real thing. And it had just bumped into him as it drifted towards him.
He was at a lost for words.
A few moments later, he grabbed onto the side of the ship with his hand, pulling himself towards it and onto the deck...
He was still floating for now... but a sudden thump ended that as if gravity had kicked back in.
He had somehow managed to get back on board... and the ship had somehow managed to get back into the void.
He got up and begun moving around... sliding his hand along the rusty railings of the ship, feeling the ships decaying state.
For the next few minutes, he would continue his wonder, walking among this old vessel with no set course. It wailed and creaked at every step almost as if the entire ship was about to fall apart. But alas all was good...
A sudden thump shook the man to his feet, springing him into a slight panic. He looked around, not spotting anything out of the ordinary until he notices a light coming from the bridge. The bridge lights had flickered to life... could someone else other than him still be around. Was a void entity playing games with him? Was a creature lurking about? His anxiety told him to hide... his curiosity told him to investigate and his gut told him to stay perfectly still.
He makes his choice, taking a few steps forward towards the bridge...
Making his way through the old and dark corridors ship leading to the bridge, up the cracked staircase and through the old broken doorway... he had finally found himself at the light at the end of it all... he had reached the bridge.
He walked in, looking around and checking his corners, carefully and slowly making his way inside... he then noticed the sound of a slight hum, a human male humming a tune on the other side of the consoles from where he stood, spotting a shadow of a humanoid figure.
He tiptoed towards the edge of the consoles, looking around the corner with his head before his eyes opened wide.
"Ethan!?"
The man turned around, staring at the man while continuing to hum. He places his hand on his head and shakes it, seemingly denying on what he is looking at.
He was dressed in US Military gear wearing a cap, some headphones and holding a rifle in his hands. The patch of Lance Corporal was located on his shoulder pad.
It truly was Lance Corporal Ethan Edwardson.
The man would eventually stop humming and would speak up as the other came towards him.
"Just another ghost... this place should give up on trying to trick me already..." the man sighs to himself... "I know that isn't the real Hector, so get lost."
Hectors face would light up in shock, for he truly believed he had just found a member of the group who was lost long ago...
"Ethan it's really me, is there anyone else on this ship? How long have you been here? Why are you here?"
...
"Whatever Hector, probably not real but here I go." Ethan than raises his hand towards Hector before proceeding to push him...
As his hand makes contact, his face lights up with his mouth wide open.
"You're really here!? Hector?"
