Exploring the underground you find an unfamiliar face... or at least what's left of one.. He holds a 'cane' of some kind.. whittled down.. He seems to be blind, with a cloth over his eyes that is just a tiny bit bloody.. He greets you as you approach with your loud footsteps.. "Come sit by the fire, it's still hot." he says with such a kind demeanor.. As you sit by the fire, you ask him what lead up to what he is now, or more importantly what happened.. and he starts rambling about his life slowly... You listen out of kindness, and also because you don't really have anything else to do.. "Oh boy.. I've lived a long life... It all started in Sweden.. I was a young boy who still had eyes back then.. Innocent, knew nothing of the real world.. I had my mother and father with me.. They cared so much about me, I was their world.. and they were my world.. I never worried about being along, or.. In the dark... It was nice but.. it didn't last forever.. I went to school as any other boy would, and after school I went to a clinic to volunteer.. I dealt with a lot of snake bites from this one guy.. Never understood how he got bit so many damn times.." The fire burns bright on his face, he had a smile going across it.. "I went into my secondary school still in the volunteer program.. I enjoyed it, provided me with knowledge I'd use later in life.. not much other than how to make decent bandages and how to treat wounds.. It was nice, I had a lot of friends, and a lot of people cared about me.. I never really had any love interests simply because nobody really appealed to me.. and when I graduated I started working in the clinic.. I got to see a whole new side of everything, I was just a nurse helping out but.. I did what I liked doing.. I went to medical school real soon.. never graduated because in my first year those damn Xenians started invading.." "Damn Headcrabs.. Bullsquids.. and all in-between killed everyone I loved.. I made friends with a few vorts when I had the chance... They're interesting folks that's for sure.. I lived around, talking to people I knew and the occasional vort.. Then.. They invaded... And in the snap of their fingers everything changed... No longer did we have freedom, but at the same time many lives improved from what they once were.. I was sent down to one of the many cities.. I think its City-24 that I was sent to.. And currently reside in.. " You continue to nod along as the man tells his whole life story, now with interest since it seems he's lead quite the life.. But you still wonder, what made him blind? And yet he still goes on.. but now he's talking about some dark place.. how interesting... "I never really minded the Combine, they gave me a job and well.. I was really just roaming around the dark tunnels of the metro for a while.. Back before this whole antlion mess started I would wander from district to district.. Was always fun, and honestly they never really could tell I just went in between districts. But then... IT happened..." "One day I was roaming with a friend of mine.. And an antlion came out of nowhere and started mauling me... My friend managed to get it off before I died but.. It was already too late.. I had already well.. Had my face combined with the teeth of an antlion.. and got a decently sized gap be placed where my eyes would have been... The people at an outpost helped me out.. bandaged the wound up so at least I wouldn't have a horrifying gash in my face.. and also gave me a nice piece of whittled plywood to help me.. feel around the world.." "And now I rest here.. I'm pretty comfortable with my surroundings.. and I'm liking the people here.." You nodded slowly, hearing the horrifying part of his story end.. You decide you have enough free time to ask him his opinions on multiple factions and people.. And he answers quite honestly​
