You are currently in Brooklyn, New York City.
Two days ago, every radio station and news channel began talking about a mysterious disaster that occurred in a research facility in New Mexico, 'Black Mesa'.
Nobody knows what happened, only that the entire state seemed to have gone dark, and the military entered and left not long after.
Governor Richard Falkmann has declared a statewide curfew to curb mass unrest, though this only caused more panic.
Yesterday, a massive storm the likes of which you have never seen manifested a ways outside the city.
Shortly after appearing, this storm sent out a blast of energy. After this blast, otherworldly beings began appearing across the city.
Three-armed beasts, acid-spitting monsters, and mind-controlling parasites have thrown the city into utter chaos.
Aliens have invaded Earth, and the undead roam the streets.
The world as you knew it is over.
Important Information:
This is a three-day survival event set in a freshly invaded New York City. You'll be holding out for as long as you can in the section of New York that has completely fallen to the Xenian invasion.
Survival won't be easy, and you won't start out strong. Every little hit point matters, so diving headfirst into a horde of zombies will only get you killed. If you want to tackle big threats, you'll need to either collaborate with others, think strategically, or acquire suitable equipment beforehand.
The map used for the event will be rp_southside. Feel free to play the map in single-player to get an idea for the layout; your character would have lived here, so it would make sense for them to know the layout of their home city.
If you participated in the 'Malefactors' event, read this.
You can bring your character over for this event, but I recommend that you don't. I think
you may have more fun if you apply for a new character. If you play as a new character, your Malefactors character will survive and can be used in the Dark Interval mega-event.
More information about Malefactors transfers can be found below.
Preset role Information:
I encourage you to look over each role; each of them is different and will provide you with a different experience.
There are four different difficulty levels, which denote how difficult it will be to start off. An easy start might have you spawn somewhere pretty peaceful with a decent amount of supplies, while a very hard start might have you start in a dangerous location with nothing but the clothes on your back.
Each role will have some sort of unique "goal"; you don't need to achieve this goal, but doing so would be beneficial to your character (it might even help other characters!).
Easy:
Police, Patrol Team One - 2/2
You are a member of New York's Finest, the NYPD.
You and your partner were out on patrol when the storm hit, you managed to get somewhere safe before the storm happened. All you have now is your gear and your patrol car; thankfully, the car survived the storm.
Your radios were broken when the storm hit, you don't know what happened to the other officers on patrol or the officers in the station.
Your goal is to find the other surviving officers and return to the station to see if anyone else is alive.
Role-specific questions:
Do you have any experience in the Civil Protection faction? Knowing police codes might help with the RP.

You run some sort of criminal organization in Brooklyn, you run your operation out of a nightclub in the city.
When the storm hit, the nightclub was overrun by aliens and zombies, and you were forced to flee. Sadly, in your rush to leave, you weren't able to take your weapons out of your hidden stash in the club.
You and your remaining goons managed to fall back to a small safehouse you had prepared in case you ever had to run from the cops.
The safehouse has a bit of gear you can use, but your main stash is in the nightclub, and only you know how to access this stash. You'll have to fight through all of the aliens in the club to get to it.
Your goal is to return to the club, clear it out, and get your stuff out of the hidden stash. Then, while the city is still chaotic, you can use this chance to rob the bank.

When the storm hit, the nightclub was overrun by aliens and zombies, and you were forced to flee. You and your boss fled to a safehouse he had prepared in the event the cops came after the gang.
The safehouse has a bit of gear, but not much. You'll need to stick by your boss if you want to survive, it wouldn't be wise to go alone at a time like this.
Your goal is to keep your boss alive, he knows where a stash of valuable equipment is. Then, while the city is still chaotic, you can use this chance to rob the bank.

Normal:
Firefighters - 4/4
You are a member of New York's Bravest, the Fire Department.
You and the other firefighters were out on the job when the storm hit, you managed to hide in a nearby warehouse. You managed to survive, but your communications equipment was damaged in the storm, so your radios are no longer functional.
The blast from the storm damaged your truck somewhat, you'll need to find a way to fix it.
All you have with you is your suit, your axe, some basic medical supplies, and your damaged truck.
Your goal is to return to the fire station to see if anyone else made it, then find, rescue, and lead other survivors to safety, either to the fire station or to some other secure location. You may also want to find a way to repair your truck; having a vehicle could be useful.

You are a paramedic working at a local hospital in Brooklyn.
You were out on the job when the storm hit. You and your partner managed to pull your ambulance into a warehouse just in time.
Your radios were broken by the storm's blast, but your ambulance and medical supplies are intact.
Your goal is to return to the hospital to see if anyone else is alive; if not, the hospital should have a bunch of medical supplies for you to use. Use your ambulance to explore the city, helping those in need with your supplies and medical skills.

Hard:
CEO - 0/1
You are the Chief Executive Officer of the 'World Corp.' Stock Exchange.
You are incredibly successful at your job, but you engage in some very corrupt activities that would get you sent away for a long time if you were ever discovered. You keep your ill-gotten gains in a stash in your office on the top floor of the World Corp building, if anyone found it, it would be very bad for you.
You were staying at your expensive penthouse at the 'Le Grande' Hotel when the storm hit. The hotel is now filled with zombies and aliens, you'll need to escape. You don't have anything aside from the clothes on your back.
Your goal is to return to your office, go to your hidden stash, and burn any evidence of your corrupt activities before anyone can find them. Oh, you might also want to see if your employees are dead.

You run (or have a high stake in) a bank in Brooklyn.
You were staying in the penthouse suite of a fancy hotel when the storm hit.
Your wealth is held within the local bank, and you don't think the insurance companies are in any sort of state to cover a robbery right now.
If the bank is robbed, you'll lose all of the wealth you have worked so hard to obtain.
Thankfully, the bank might just be one of the safest places left in the city, the security systems should keep the aliens out.
Your goal is to return to the bank, secure it, and make sure your wealth remains intact, OR, you can risk your wealth to let other survivors use the bank as a refuge from the apocalypse.

You are a homeless person living on the streets of Brooklyn.
When the storm hit, you and another hobo went into the sewers to hide. You can hear inhuman sounds coming from the surface, and you think something might be down in the sewers with you.
You don't have much of anything with you, but you start with two extra points of strength. It isn't much, but your difficult life has hardened you.
Your goal is to survive and keep your homeless companion alive. While the city is still chaotic, it may be wise to go out and look for valuable stuff you can use to survive.

You are a New York Taxi Driver.
You were driving your taxi when the storm hit, the blast damaged your car somewhat.
You'll need to find replacement parts for your taxi if you want to use it again. Thankfully, you know of an automobile repair shop in the city that should have the parts you need.
You'll have to leave your broken taxi out on the street while you get the replacement parts, hopefully, nobody fixes it before you do.
Your goal is to find the 'Gateway Tire & Service Center' to get parts to fix your taxi, then return to your taxi and fix it. Then, you can use your fixed taxi for anything, like transporting or helping other survivors.

You are a priest or pastor at a church in Brooklyn; the exact faith of your church is for you to determine.
You were at home when the storm hit. Not many people survived the storm, but you did. Was this God's plan?
Is this storm some sort of punishment from god? Is it a test? You don't quite know.
You don't have anything of value aside from the robes you wear and your faith.
Your goal is to return to the church to see if your flock has survived. If they haven't, you need to save as many people as you can by getting them somewhere safe from the demons that have invaded your city.
Role-specific questions:
What Christian faith does your character follow? (Catholisism is the most common denomination in New York)

You own or work at a bar in Brooklyn. An Irish pub.
Your establishment has been known to get into a bit of trouble with the law from time to time, but before the storm, your establishment was rather popular. Sadly, its popularity was the primary reason for its downfall when the storm hit.
The dozens of people within the bar have been taken over by these horrible alien parasites, you had no choice but to flee into the back alley.
You managed to hide in a dumpster, the horrible smell must be masking your presence from the undead, for now at least.
Your goal is to retake your bar; once you do, you should be able to grab your shotgun, which you keep in the fight club in the basement of the bar. Once your bar is back in working order, you should see if any other survivors want to come over for a drink.

Very Hard:
Prisoner - 1/2
You were being held at the local police station for one reason or another.
The nature of your crime is up to you; you might be guilty, you might have only committed a minor crime (like breaking the city-wide curfew), or you might even be innocent.
You were in a cell in the station when the storm hit, you could hear the officers outside screaming as they were ripped to shreds by something out of sight. Everything has gone quiet now, aside from inhuman groans that echo throughout the building.
Your goal is to break out of your cell, get to the city, ditch your inmate outfit, and blend in with the other survivors.
Role-specific questions:
What are you in jail for?
Are you innocent or guilty?

You are a Vortigaunt who has only just arrived on Earth during the Cascade.
Through the Vortessence, you know that the Nihilanth has been slain by a human, no less.
You are free from your shackles, but you are now stranded in an unfamiliar world dominated by a race that would love to see your kind wiped out.
You don't know the language these 'Humans' speak, communication will be complicated. You won't be able to speak or understand any human languages, so you will need to rely on some other form of communication.
You are currently hiding in some sort of tunnel beneath the human city, you can hear something echo through these tunnels...
Your goal is to survive, either completely avoid the humans for as long as you can, or attempt to peacefully communicate with them to secure peace between your kind and theirs.
Note: I can't predict how other players will act; they might try to kill you for being an alien, they might not. Be careful.
Role-specific questions:
How old is your Vortigaunt? (Max age is sage, no elders)
Do you have the Vortigaunt whitelist on the main server? If not, you can't apply for this role.

Hospital Patient 2/2
You are a patient at a hospital in Brooklyn.
You were in your hospital bed when the storm hit. You heard as monstrous beings ripped apart the hospital staff beyond your room.
As if by some sort of miracle, you went unnoticed by these monsters, but you feel like your luck won't hold out for much longer if you just stay in bed.
Perhaps you only just woke up from a coma, and you have no idea what is going on.
Your goal is to escape the hospital as fast as you can while avoiding the monsters dwelling within it, then try to find help once you escape.
Role-specific questions:
What is your illness/injury?

If you escaped via boat during the finale of Malefactors:
You escaped on a boat alongside a number of other people from the Green Haven Correctional Facility.
When the ship was on its way to Manhattan, an energy wave was produced by the storm, knocking you (and likely a few others) off the ship and into the water below.

You managed to get to land, but it seems like this section of the city has been entirely overrun by these monsters.

Role-specific questions:

Your goal is to escape the prison, then find a way to blend in with the other survivors.
(You'll have the 'Prisoner' start)

Game Masters - 0/∞
This isn't an event that can be GMed by a single person; we need help from Event Team members and Short Stories Event runners in order to make this event fun for everyone.
If you are interested in helping GM the event, just let me know by writing your name below; you don't have to fill out a big application.
This just helps me get an idea of how much GM support we'll have for the event.
What is this event?
This event is the second in a series of prequel events for the 'Dark Interval' Mega-Event.
If you missed the first event in the series, don't worry, you haven't missed anything important.
If you survive, you'll be able to use the character in the mega-event.
One more prequel event will happen after this one, You can see more about the events here:
https://willard.network/forums/threads/announcement-dark-interval-prologue.14635/
When is the event?
The Event will start on the 6th of June and will end on the 8th of June, making it three days long.
The event will start at 8-9 PM BST (may be subject to change if people can't make that time)
