If there was to be a Napoleonic war esq event where you play as a British or French soldier during say the battle of waterloo, Or maybe an American "Patriot" during the revolution and it had musket lines swords and maybe cannons would you be interested? this wouldn't be related to hl2rp obviously (Unless it was like a great great great ancestor of a character ig) But this would mostly be for fun.

Maybe it could be set following napoleon's exile and return? or perhaps during the American invasion of Canada....the American revolt agianst Great Britain.

((This is serious so please, Serious takes only))

Possible factions:
French
British
American
Polish
Union Army
Confederate Army / Militia

Interesting - but no.

Lack of models, maps, entities and weapon models to ensure authencity. And to realistically portray the enormous battles like Waterloo with the player base would be impossible. I believe we would only shame the thousands who died during the conflict with the standards of etiquette that many people in the community have.

An Auschwitz event however….

This is going to be explain how that event goes. Especially when Sharpe has to point out the... "thousands of lancers"...

You will get the equivalent of making the Battle of Austerlitz as an example (not the same as video prescribed) look like a small skirmish between twenty dudes with muskets. LMAO

I mean, small skirmishes and passive would be plenty doable, (Sharpe's Christmas anyone?) But. Gmod just isn't the best for it really, way more fitting to HL2RP, etc

Just throwing ideas, Could do smaller scale things like some American Revolutionary war skirmishes for example.

could be set during american revolutionary or napoleonic historical time and conflict surrounding your own fictitious battle to encompass playercount size

you can also easily find the models, maps and weapons for this, sounds based

Lots of potential, What I'm mainly looking to see is how many people would be interested in a musket / sword historical setting.

i saw the vote before the post and thought a cowboy westerner rp event

i was wrong and i regret voting yes. you have ruined my day

Pipe down and get back in line we're going to volley napoleon's legions

Gmod combat is already awful as is, you're better off asking who has Holdfast and organizing a game night in that. It's good but you need way more people than you'll probably find here.

Well I'd like there to be a little story to it you know? But having that historical setting whether it's The Patriots in boston, Fort sumter, Or something along those lines

Yes, to a certain degree.

I've seen quite a few gamemodes; obviously theres WW2, but ive seen WW1, Civil War, and even the damn Seven Years War. Problem is half of those are basically historical DarkRP.

However, I have seen some ambitious servers in the past attempt serious RP in a WW1 setting, and outside of combat and charges, there is a good amount of like Trench roleplay; whether that's passively RPing eating rations, writing loved ones, to more engaging roleplay like scouting, watching the enemy's trenches, and patrols.

I think it can definitely be done. And it can be fun and engaging with only like 50% of it being actual combat, the rest is RPing the downtime soldiers have between battles.

The trick though is finding enough people interested in these more niche historical eras. 1812 specifically is quite niche and even in America is barely taught anymore. Napoleonic wars, the american revolution, civil war, etc, some people could be put off by the lack of technology and may not have the patience to do proper line battles.
Maybe early 20th century, or even WW1, while still hit and miss, could be feasable.

Well that's the stuff I want to achieve in a Military rp setting or something similar, People automatically think it's just s2k which is fine for an afternoon but shit for an overall setting, In the past we did stuff in the quiet hours on this one server as Germans we'd go into the fields and scavenge for berries and recon ect

That's the meat of what we want

Why would you say no to any SS event? Just don't participate
