Day three:

Previously, the local government had enacted martial law across the city of New York; however, as the Cascade disaster progressed, the rights of the surviving citizens were stripped further to combat the riots occurring across the city.

Citizens were stripped of their Second Amendment rights, and evacuations were halted as the military set up a perimeter around Manhattan. In an effort to establish order, the government had left countless innocent civilians to die.

Following the tyrannical edicts put in place by Governor Falkmann, a number of National Guardsmen went against their superiors, travelling to Jersey to assist in the evacuation of the civilians their government had abandoned.

As the dissident national guardsman prepared for a massive evacuation, the Vortigaunts within Jersey performed a ritual, opening the gateway from Xen to Earth even further, and allowing countless of their kin to travel to Earth, however, this ritual had an unintended consequence.

As countless Xenians poured into Jersey, the local area was swallowed by Xen, completely and utterly replaced by an alien landscape. The Xenians had managed to escape from Xen, but any humans left in the city by this point were annihilated.

Thankfully, the dissident guardsmen were able to evacuate a number of civilians to a cargo vessel on the Hudson River. Although some civilians were saved, many survivors were not able to evacuate in time and perished as the forces of Xen fully overtook the area.

While a portion of the Jersey area was completely transformed by Xen, the rest of New York City would survive the disaster.

Afterwards...

The survivors who escaped alongside the dissident guardsmen would sail to Providence, Rhode Island. Other dissenting members of the Guard had managed to create a new home there, for a time, at least...

What did you enjoy about the event?
The survival horror management of resources. Not too much, not too little.
Character interactions were on point. I was terrible compared to them.
GMs were on point with interactions as well. Set-pieces looked great.

What did you not enjoy about the event?
Couldn't spend too much free time before something else happened, preventing exploration of the map before it got too dangerous to walk around.
Content caused too many crashes. I don't know what it specifically was, but it didn't play nice.
GM responsiveness was all over the place, but ZeroPants is as reliable as always.
I lost track of the plot.
Alien grunts are terrible. They shoot through glass while we can't.
The handling of the vorts may have been overcorrected thanks to complaints? Now the earlier friendliness made way for animosity and suddenly they're the worst things ever. I get that people didn't like how others saw vorts as good immediately, but I saw some things that justified such an opinion, so to see their portrayal lack consistency threw me off.

What could have been done better?

Making use of additional content?
Ensuring that anachronisms don't happen i.e. people don't discover headcrabs are edible just yet.
Content that's stable for the general playerbase?
Slightly more care as to who gets accepted as what role. Some did it well, some acted weird.

Do you have any other comments about the event?
Not at this time.

How would you rate the event out of 10?
8-9.

What did you enjoy about the event? - I enjoyed the finale feeling, everything going to shit and turning into absolute damned mayhem, akin to Forget about Freeman from HL1. I also liked the ending with us leaving on a boat, it was neat. The lack of combat, and being focused on surviving and avoiding it, was nice change too, since very few combat encounters were mandatory.

What did you not enjoy about the event? - Alien grunts. THEY SUCK. They can hit through walls, do higher damage than they should, ARE TANKY as hell, and can spam multiple aimbot projectiles... They got so many people it's not even funny. Lack of also any preset areas with metal benches, meant nobody could do combat due to no ammo. Another thing I disliked, was the spam of NPCs and effects at times, causing the Ping of everyone to jump HIGH. Also, it being only 1 predetermined ending sucks too, we wanted to move away from the group into docks, to try to escape by the tunnel, but lack of any vehicle, made it impossible, so we had to join the rest.

What could have been done better? - Better enemy positioning and not so much enemy spam, especially of tough enemies. Ammo availability could have been done better too, with metal benches, or more things to find in general. Also, more passive / downtime, we rarely had 1 base for any amount of time, due to Military, aliens, zombies... So I, a cook, couldn't COOK shit, lack of ingredients didn't help either, so availability of that could have been improved too.

Do you have any other comments about the event? - Nup. Aside from what I've already said and written, I enjoyed most of it, despite the problems it had.

How would you rate the event out of 10? - 7,25/10

What did you enjoy about the event? It was a good enough experience in general. Looting, basing, yada yada.

What did you not enjoy about the event? Dear God the Lore was... Yikes. New Jersey/New York confusion, HECU somehow showing up on the other end of the country, the Government coup that made no sense, Patriots origin story 3 years before the Combine even showed up... It just wasn't great in any way, and I honestly think this event would've been a lot more enjoyable without all these elements. Alien Grunts were ass, and I asked for them to not be used in the last feedback thread, but I guess that didn't happen. So much for that, I suppose.

What could have been done better? No HECU, for one. That shit doesn't make any sense and is the most fanfare thing you could possibly do. Nobody liked them being there, as far as I know. The whole headcrab meat thing, I already wrote about in the last feedback thread. Alien Grunts shouldn't have been used OR at least used very sparingly. Escape ways should've been available from the get-go, and not only for the last 30 minutes.

Do you have any other comments about the event? Eh, not really. It was pretty fun all in all.

How would you rate the event out of 10? 7/10. Without the dumb lore, it'd probably be an 8/10.

I was not involved in the actual event so I have no opinion on how it transpired.

As a recommendation for future events I believe it would be ideal to keep opening weekends of new maps or arcs event free so as to not split the player base right at the start to things. Assuming most of the 30 or so players of the event popped onto the main server for this weekend we could have been comfortably hitting 80 to 90 players total at peak, which I believe would have given v3 a much stronger initial burst of energy.

Edit: For the no voters, I would have been just as content having the main server bump its reopening date back by a week to avoid the conflict if this date was chosen well in advance.

Day 3... oh boy.

I understand zeropants' concern over looting NPCs but if you are going to spawn 50 grunts on a group of 6 because one had a sniper rifle , you're cooked.

The people who went to the military base , discovered that the base had no loot at all because it was completely licked clean by looters and the patriots, got an event announcement that you could maybe find weapons from the corpses of the dead soldiers to instantly spawn in a tank and gargantua fight which would get annihilated instantly by the bombardment which got instantly replaced with around 5-7 grunts , several of those flying dudes and a laser turret??? within 20-30 seconds of the gates being forcefully opened nearly EVERYONE inside the 'base' was downed. No emplacements to make things interesting... no vehicles to escape with in time.... no breathing room or anything. We defeated a horde of looters with SMGs to get instantly punished with a death wish.

We were given a choice to escape the area with a vehicle but MIND YOU the entirety of the tunnels were blocked with large ass vehicle props and blockages. and even if you had a vehicle most would probably get destroyed after having looters and grunts be thrown at you.

Vehicles would have been more useful if they weren't so god damn terrible. They move so slow (idc if ur scared of vdm cope), they cant break (this also goes to the boat because it was failing to break) at rapid paces , they are buggy and worst of all they couldn't be used much because most roads had 5 grunts blocking it or xen spores covering half the street.

Also dont fucking use alien turrets. I saw ellie booker get nuked in one blow.

If you want to make something hard go ahead. Atleast dish out some good rewards for surviving it. I would be fine dying on Dante if it wasn't the fact that everyone was basically naked and low on ammunition except for 2 or three. Could have even added a broken vehicle or something because we had firefighters roleplaying as engineers and we had car batteries , compasses and toolkits on us. We were basically forced to move back with the main group which made the whole mission of "lets go to the base and see what we can do there" pointless if not outright unfair.

What could have been done better?

Don't use grunts.
Add working vehicles.
Have more ammo.
Make some cues or hints for players to find "hidden weapons" whether its a paper note or a graffiti.
Give more time before you cause hell on the server.
More endings

Don't use alien turrets or "operators" or whatever the hell that was lmao

I loved the characters and the survival aspect. I couldn't care less about the story except the whole HECU part acting friendly with civs before trying to gun them down.

How would you rate the event out of 10?
This is like my 2nd or third SS and i'd rate it out of 8/10
