create a new channel called memes and funnies.

Shitposting maintains its tradition of no rules (with the exception of no nsfw unless behind spoiler and nsfw tag). Your epic may mays and Reddit karma farms go into the safe and secure memes and funnies channel where everything follows the rules and is public.

Maintain status quo while making participation optional instead of public and front face.

There is no reason there shouldn't be a tab separating actual memes and shitposting. It keeps politics, spam, and some other potentially undesirable topics out of the civilized chat.

But, like, genuinely, can someone give me a reason why this would be a bad idea? Because I'm lost for one.

When staff refuse to suppress excessive, persistent, consistent and VERY apparent bigotry within shitposting as it is, the "memes" part of the chat starts to lose its value.

separating memes and shitposting would essentially turn shitposting into a dedicated extremist chat. While I'd like to argue that we shouldn't have so many extremists at ALL, given that there are many people of targeted demographics in this server... well, we'd have to ban, like, six people right off the bat.

It's better we just give them their own private little hole so they can fester without bothering everyone else.

I know a "racism channel" doesn't seem ideal, but shitposting and memes is already a racism channel. We ought to keep it separate from actual memes.
