Generator Repair Speed (Dead by Daylight moment)

Today I decided to act on a plan I had been devising for quite a while. It was pretty simple, plant two IEDs at Gen 4 and Gen 1 respectively. We targeted these generators because it was the only target we could think of against the Combine that wasn't terrorism or shot-copping. There was moderate-low risk involved with high possible losses for me/my character if things went poorly as we were bringing an IED into the city, even if only for a short period. If a CP had come into Triumph during the attack, they will have most likely seen me and I would have been amputated with a PK. It had also been a fair amount of effort to create the bomb - including writing out an IED auth (which will not be able to help me in the future, as it has expired, meaning I cannot create another IED until I write another), gathering materials to create the IED, RPing out the IED's crafting, planning how I would use the IED, and actually performing the plan. That being said, the generator attack was successful and I walked away feeling quite good about myself.

Fast forward about 30 minutes and I see in a /event one of the generators was already repaired. I PM'd Pathfinder, who GM'd the bombing, who said the CWU had replacement parts for the generator tucked away. He also said that IEDs worked according to the amount of explosive compound you put in, which was not how I had understood the IED system to work from anyone I asked OOCly. I DM'd Goose asking if 8 pieces of plastic scrap, 8 pieces of electrical scrap, and 2 explosive compound would be an acceptable recipe for the IED, since this is the recipe I'd heard people from Neighbourhood Watch had used when they made their IEDs, which I had seen to be extremely destructive in an expedition we had done together.

The recent bombing of the RDC is still being felt across the server - rations still unavailable at this moment and having to be given out manually at Triumph. This understandably feels unfair compared to the IED being placed at a generator being completely repaired in half an hour or so. Generators seems like the only target rebels have in the city that isn't bombing innocent citizens or CP checkpoints - both of which are overdone and, in my opinion, not actually that interesting. To have the generator repaired so quick feels immensely unfair, especially due to the fact that I had thought this bomb would have had a much greater explosive power than it did.

Finally, I would like to know where exactly the CWU got the replacement parts for the generator. We had assumed the CWU's resources would have been strained from all the recent rebel attacks, so hearing that the CWU had "replacement parts" immediately ready was quite the surprise. Furthermore, the ability to install these replacement parts so immediately after the attack was also surprising, since, going in, I had assumed the explosion we be large enough to not only damage the generator but the surrounding building.

I'm sorry if this reads like copium, but I personally was quite excited to do this attack for a decent few weeks, so seeing it reversed so quickly is a little disheartening.

I agree. I think its a bummer that this was insta-fixed. Its a bit immersion breaking, and this could've been a good opportunity for RP. I think a lot of RP went into this only for a minimal amount of RP to fix it. Imagine rolling blackouts for a week or more while the CWU scrambles to get replacement parts or a replacement generator for example. We should embrace things that promote RP. Insta-fixing the generator does not provide any roleplay for anyone, other than a few /me's of dropping asspulled replacement parts into it and flipping a switch or two.

All in all, this asspull instafixing of the generator is a lose-lose.

Hello,

I am the CT person who designed the Generator System of the City, and I can tell you now that the only time a generator should be repaired that quickly is under event/staff conditions. Basically meaning only when caused by staff should it be repaired that quickly. So going to support you here in the following statement as the systems creator:

When damage is caused by a player, especially one with what you said like an IED's, this should take up to 7+ days to repair. Most cases without such high explosives take 4+ days, but the whole point of sabotaging those generators is to give the whole rebel side advantage for a set amount of time after the sabotage is complete.

Here is also the following actions of all 4 generators and what they do:
Generator #1 handles lighting and main street fields
Generator #2 handles main emergency power and announcement systems
Generator #3 handles security (Cameras, Nexus alarms)
Generator #4 handles all water supply and critical infrastructure for shops

And as an additional statement on top of all of this:
I told the CWU a while ago that if they ever needed a new generator, they would need to requisition one from the CLC (My char known as Lev) in order to resupply their generator stock as they ran out a while ago. So with that said, it should be impossible for the repairs to be this fast.

Any updates on the situation?
Sorry for the slow response. Going to tell CWU off and get the stock sorted with them to tell them "Don't repair something you don't have the ability to repair"

Going to make the generators you destroyed fail at any random time within the week.

I'm sorry what. When a generator is blown up, spare parts won't do shit. You need to replace the generator entirely.

Your bombing should have been a week long effort to repair, because you don't just instafix two integral elements in a city's power grid in an hour.

making IEDs is ez bro

Going to archive this complaint as I believe I did resolve this a while ago now, just never updated. The Generator anytime it is blown up now will have a very strict repair time and also a strict resource requirement based on actual City/CWU stock. SO should never happen again. Same with Cameras, Turrets and any other such combine tech, buildings and so on which you damage.
