While in in the line of duty as a traffic cop for The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), Marshall was shot with a 9x19mm Parabellum round in the upper torso resulting in a shattered right collarbone and significant blood loss. Marshall was rushed to a nearby medical center and stabilized. As a result, Marshall was awarded the Law Enforcement Purple Heart as well as a leave of absence.
