I think CP's forget they are the bad guys...

Killian can agree with me on this. Cops DO NOT forget theyre bad guys. Theyre very good bad guys

I'll put it like this:

In comparison to some of the rebels? Yeah, civil protection is not that bad at all... Could be considered good when referenced to the bullshit Rebels pull off.

When it comes to some loyalists and civis just trying to passive RP? No. They don't forget they're the bad guys at all and uphold that pretty damn well. I could just be biased though.

Walk outside, go to get food and drink, cp flags me down
“DAVE! Let this rct give you a loyalty test to teach him”

I get charged for reason “-3” i am now down a loyalty tier.

They are quite evil indeed

I really think units are both too nice and too cruel. There’s no middle ground at all. I think there is just a lack of direction in terms of the appearance of units. In the end, no matter what faction you play as, citizens are the ones all others are working to support since its what makes occupation rp actually, you know, occupation RP.

I think units should be oppressive and totalitarian, but absolutely not just cruel and brutalistic for no reason. The absolute best interactions I’ve had with Civil Protection as a citizen/vort is when they are paying attention to you in a way that feels personal, rather than just telling me to fuck off or hitting me with a stun stick.

For instance, the vibe with totalitarian authority is that it’s weird. Units should ask random questions that feel invasive. They should bag you and bring you in just to interrogate you over things nobody knows about. They should be watching you and peering into your life. It’s a game of putting players on edge without actually jumping off and just ruining their RP. The whole point of the Civil Protection is that they are a constant, low threat to your RP. They don’t lunge at you until you do something actually bad. They’re an antagonist that is simply observing and waiting for you to fuck up, not just assuming you fucked up already and moving right to beatings because “lol we are like the bad guys or something”.

True, I think a lot of CP's are "bad for the sake of being bad" i'd rather have CP's be a looming threat than a prevalent threat like I could just be chilling in the sewers and head to plaza and get walled and bagged and interrorgated about my whereabouts with the suspicion im an anti-citizen but just waiting for that suspicion to be proven by me. Now ofc the only issue in this is that CP's cant just be snatching people off the streets 24/7 you'll probably get pissed off if its your fifth time getting snatched off the street and interrogated.

I have personally been beaten many of times not for having any illegal goods but just for having a low SC count and a record which I find personally annoying because it seems like the weakest excuse to just beat someone, I like the idea of CP's doing less <:: Wall it ::> and more of like a <:: Citizen you're coming with me ::> i'd like to see CP's maybe not just beat someone instantly when they have something illegal and instead throw them in an interrogation room and have them come up with a excuse quickly as to why they have what illegal goods they were caught with
(Of course this cant be done all the time CP's cant be running interrogations 24/7 they need to be out on street still trying to protect the public or whatever lol) but I definetely feel as if the whole "I'm going to beat you because im evil" and the "I'm going to find a excuse to beat you because I just want to" is really annoying and hinders me from ever wanting to go outside of the slums/sewers because I think at any moment I can just be walled and beaten even when I follow the law to a tee.

Enough of me coping though I do think the CP's acting as a sort of shadow government observing people and pouncing when the person least expects it sounds pretty fun and could definetely throw a wrench in your plans if you're caught and are suddenly given 21 questions about what you've been doing around the city with anti-citizens struggling to answer these questions while citizens can easily answer them getting them set free in no time.

As for CP's being too nice I think i've only experienced that once, and the person seemed to be nice ooc and ic so I dont know how to feel about that situation.

In my experience, this is the key distinction of 'good' cop roleplay-- not morally 'good', but rather of high quality. It's hard for a cop to delve too deep into a personal roleplay with someone on account of the orders they receive from Dispatch/their superiors, as well as the CONSTANT need for vigilance outside high socio-stability areas, however. That's no-one's fault really: it's a staple of the gamemode.

You can be the worst, rotten character you can think of, and people will still laud you for it, if you put enough effort and elegance into your writing. Roleplay-killer cops and good-boy-laidback cops both always feel out of place. A well-crafted, multi-layered villain is the absolute pinnacle of cop roleplay to me. Even if you, as a cop player, don't embrace that archetype, I do highly recommend you actually take the time and effort to delve into the character of that citizen you need to beat up. Make it clear to them that you as a writer are willing to invest your creativity into them if they are willing, have your characters talk, write a beautiful paragraph showing off your writing skills and encourage them to do the same. You'll thank me for it.
