In Flanders Fields
Somewhere in the Flanders sector of the Western Front, a new batch of soldiers arrives at the front line to meet the battle-hardened survivors of previous battles. Brainwashed by propaganda, they are excited to serve their nations, but soon they will learn the truth. What will they exclaim or cry when they are stuck knee-deep in mud?
This is an event based on the the Great War, what i aim with this event is to basically focus more on the life in the trenches. There will be two sides, the Entente ( Great Britain, possibly Canadians/Belgium, and France) and Germany. The idea is that, this event which will be a few days long, will be most part just life in the trenches, but at the end of the event there will be a big battle, so it will have smaller little events, like skirmishes, all leading up to this bigger battle. These events are up to short stories team, but they can be very fun, like for example, an aircraft is shot down and lands in no mans land, then a group of soldiers have to recover the pilot, or capture the pilot... theres a good amount of things that can be done. Both maps ( they are just bellow this text) have underground tunnels that can be dug up and they lead to each others trenches, so that can also be used in an interesting way.
The actual big battle can have three outcomes depending on how each team ends up. Entente wins, Germany wins or none wins, as in, no one manages to capture the enemies trenches. ( No one really wins, but hey, you didnt hear that from me)
There can be a play in a advantage/disadvantage thing since both sides are different, like, German trenches are better built, no floods, so less diseases. The Entente trenches are worse, have floods and disease is more rampant, but the Entente can also have better firepower, better artillery, tanks, and the germans can have planes, so on. It can be used in a way that both sides are more or less equal, but each with its pros and cons, and they gotta know how to manage it, exploit the enemies disadvantages or be exploited.
There can also be a paranoia built up, place spies or saboteurs in each side for some extra spice. And with that, people can use the language functionality from willard, so the French speak French, Germans speak German, British speaks English, Canadians speak French and English... all of that can be used to create situations, impose a communication challenge to the Entente, gotta search for soldiers who speak the captured enemies language... that can be used in interesting ways.
Eveyone who ends up dying during these smaller events, or before the battle, can have a new character made up to continue playing up to the actual battle. Probably a decent amount of players will be necessary for the event to work, so to keep the player count up, everyone who dies before the battle gets to make a new character, but make it so people wont be throwing themselfs at the enemies guns, so some kind of penalty can take place, or something along that so people are incentivised to not get themselfs killed.
Play the music " In Flanders Fields" ( The version in The Great War album by Sabaton, since i dont know any other) right at the end.
if anyone wants to complement this idea, feel free to comment on this post.
Workshop Content: Up to short stories team since its just props, Player Models, vehicle, guns and etc... I think some cool mods to add are the Messenger Pigeon, WW1 Artillery/Mortar Pack, 1914 Radio,Trench Whistle SWEP, [simfphys] WW1 vehicles pack 2. ( Try to keep stuff as historical accurate as you can)
Map: Either rp_ypres or rp_flanders ( both made by soap). Each map has its own advantages you can see it in the workshop page of each. rp_ypres is larger, but looks more simple, rp_flanders is smaller but looks better. Anyhow, both are suitable for roleplay, up to short stories team.
Do you wish to spearhead the project if your event is accepted? (You will run the event alongside the SS team): Yeppers.
Is this event set in the Half-Life universe?: No.
Will this event follow Willard's Timeline?: No.
Will this event affect the main server?: No.
Do you have any SS members vouching for the event?: No.
