Right now, skills have a gameplay use, crafting is for making items, medical is used for making medical items, drugs, and chemicals, and guns and melee only have their uses in combat. The skill system has no effect on actual RP, only being used for gameplay. A person who has a high crafting skill gains no benefits when RPing things that would revolve around the skill, the same goes for the other skills. This led to an important part of the server not being used for RP. I have a solution to allow these skills to be integrated into RP. Allow for skills to give bonuses to roles, similar to how you can roll with bonuses from your character's attributes. This would work exactly like the attributes with bonuses from 1 to 10, with you gaining a +1 to the role with every 5 levels of that skill, so a person with 5 levels would get a bonus of +1, and a person with 50 levels getting a +10 bonus.

Now you may ask how this could be used in RP, well ill give examples for every current skill.

Cooking - Cooking RP meals, Knowledge about food, Animals, and plants.

Crafting - Repairing broken items, or structures, making custom items, if you know how something works mechanically.

Guns - RP fighting with ranged weapons, knowledge about ranged weapons

Medical - Medical RP in general, from simple checkups to surgeries

Melee - RP Fighting with melee weapons, using melee tools

Smuggling - hiding objects on your person, making hidden containers, and dropping off points

Speed - Parkour, dodging attacks in RP combat, escaping someone who grabbed you

Now these are not the only RP action you could use the skills in, and you should remember to use them in creative ways that fit each skill
if anyone wants a more specific way to use each skill, post a reply to the thread and I could explain in a bit more detail
As well as any other suggestions on how to use this, or implement it in a better way

I don't mind a roll system like this based on the skills, but I think these should be for events only or when agreed by everyone involved. Personally I always figured you'd do like a d10 or a d20 and add your strength/speed/perception/intelligence and then your skill/10

Yeah, rolls are mostly used in events or doing RP actions against someone anyways, with them being ok with it of course. I also sometimes roll for doing things by myself to make the RP a bit more interesting. I personally would like a roll system more like DnD or fallout 1/2, but I think we just need something to connect the skills to RP in a good way

So you want a roll command like the one for attributes, but for skills?

That's what I gathered from what he said, I think it'd be cool as e.g. for medicine you're forced to roll intelligence, same for crafting, while your character may only be good at one or the other (or neither). I think incorporating skill rolls could be pretty cool.

This is better to have than not, it still promotes RP at the end of the day; a greater variety at that.
It has my support if this were the case because it's additional quality of life that is necessary, and above all else brings about a lesser extent of automation that people want to not deal with in the end.

yeah, it would be the same command just with skills, with the bonus coming from your skill level, a plus 1 for every 5 levels, so a max of +10 to the roll
