Is this even fair? Timing out Players on the Discord(s)

To start this off, I know I am guilty I am not asking for an appeal. I do not expect to not be taken super seriously though as a player and former/active staff (on other communities) I find the punishment for my crime in question to be quite ridiculous and unusually cruel.

It is very clear I am a troll on the Willard Networks Main Discord though I try to avoid actively breaking the rules and generally try to keep my antics in all good fun so when I decided to go about my usual idiotic antics I decided to mess with @slick in all good fun. He requested I not @ him on the discord and in true Spooky Wolf fashion of course I @'d him. Though what I did not expect to find was I was timed out. For 24 hours.

Now I probably would have understood this if I @'d him 20 times individually. People @ the staff for idiotic things all the time and I don't recall them getting muted for an entire day on the discord (All the times Aspect gets @'d to add stupid things to the server and God knows how many times people have pinged Staff for other ridiculous things like Equinox's copypastas and WN copypastas in general). Honestly this is a problem in it of itself that will either be dealt with in due time or not and that's not really the issue I care about. I've reviewed the discord rules over and despite it being within the rights of Slick I suppose it feels entirely odd to me that I be timed out for an entire day for what was essentially a joke, an idiotic joke which I then pressed forth on the Rebel discord.

Though on the Rebel Discord is where I find myself a bit baffled considering I hadn't even done anything wrong (at least from what I could tell this time) aside from my interesting word choice and my desire to "shitpost" on the rebel discord before I baited the staff member to time me out and granted that was probably not the smartest move on my part I was also timed out for 24 hours again. It was at this point I was considering writing this up as a report considering I feel as ridiculous as my actions were I know timing out someone for an entire day over one prank and one challenge on another discord is very odd and unusually draconian.

Now as a Staff Member (not here but for the sake of argument) I can completely understand you don't want people screwing around though in my experience I'd find it difficult to up and time out someone for an entire day since it can leave a very weird mark on the Community. Now I don't have the Willard Staff Handbook so I can't exactly say Slick was even in the wrong, but as someone whose helped ran communities both alive and dead it just feels weird to act so brashly over a few things. Honestly if I was in the shoes of Slick and I was dealing with Spooky in this scenario I doubt I would have timed him out for an entire day; I personally would have told him to please stop and if Spooky continued to press on I would have issued a warning and if he kept doing so I probably would have timed him out for maybe ranging from 5 minutes to an hour at most. I can't imagine myself Timing out someone for longer because at that point I would have just handed it off to my superiors and allow them to make a final judgement.

I'll leave this evidence here and do with it as you will. I'm not here to make judgements but merely hope the Staff will take this incident into consideration and hopefully training or something else.

Because I have a hard time with forums I'll just describe in order which server which incident occurred in.
1. WN Main Discord Memetopia - I essentially @ the staff member after being told not to and was timed out (I was not warned nor did I really expect this in the third image I
2. WN Rebel Discord - I jokingly (though in all honesty I would doubt it based off of the posts if I was the staff member in question) challenge the staff member to time me out after he posted an image of him going to time me out after I moved my idiocy to the Rebel Discord.
3. The context that 1 lacked (I don't have a big screen and apologies for the misorder I placed it in)
4. The WN Discord rules as they're currently made and based off of my understanding of the rules it seems alright though there is no specification of how long the time out period is or how long it should be really.
5. Willcraft Discord the only place I was not muted.

6. Apparently I wasn't the only one timed out though I don't know how long they're timed out for. WN Main Discord Memetopia

In Conclusion? Honestly I think the entire situation while understandable the reaction from Staff was entirely uncalled for and I thought it was totally unnecessary. I don't think I should write a abuse report for all of this, I probably wouldn't have even done this if I was timed out for an hour or even five minutes at least I find that reasonable. From a player's point of view it gives off the feeling if you do even the minor bit of trolling (whether it be malicious or playful or whatnot) you're going to get yourself banned and based off the way this timeout system works its pretty much a soft ban system. Its a useful tool in the right situation. From a staff member's point of view I find this unnecessarily harsh as it might give off the wrong message to players and might even state this is what you want, but since I'm not WN Staff I can't really comment too much on this. From a minge's POV this is just upsetting, how else am I supposed to troll now?

So I just leave you with this. If this is what you want for the server, fine I guess? I just wish the rules were more specific that I'd be timed out for 24 hours or at least been warned before-hand. I don't think the staff member in question should be punished as they are a Trial Admin after all, but that's ultimately up to the staff team's choice and honestly I don't know what the other players have to say for themselves, whom have also been timed out aside from myself.

This is Spooky Wolf signing off as it is very late and I will likely not read this eight hours from now.

Final Edits: Apparently there's options of different time outs from 60 seconds to 5 minutes, 10 minutes, an hour, 1 day and a week. Oh and apparently Dog was muted for an hour before it was removed off of him.

I also decided to confront the staff member in question before I decided to make my report thinking "Maybe I'm wrong about all of this. Maybe I should speak to the Staff Member in question plus I spent two hours making this report. I've already wasted this amount of time so better make sure I'm not going about this all wrong." and these were the responses given to me.

I have not contacted them after the final post. I was advised by certain players who I shall not name since they have no desire to be named to consult one more staff member and that I was being petty, along with other lines of having a general fear of the staff overall thinking I was going to get silenced or ignored over all of this. I've decided not to include their posts as I feel I would be violating their privacy and this isn't really all that all related but I shall mention it anyway since it came to mind when I spent two-three hours making this post.

I decided to contact @NIXeighteen and after being told about this towards the end of it all after I sent him all the evidence I sent him he responded with this although I would have to post that in another post due to my Attachment limit.

In all honesty as I write this its been three hours into writing this. I didn't expect to go write out a complaint this long and super-winded all things considered. I'm still not sure if this is the right place to put it but its all I got. I also considered that if I post this I'd be wasting people's time; but I also considered that if it wasn't me that hadn't had this occur to I think this would have gone a little differently so I hesitantly made this post knowing that despite my overwhelming guilt I know that something was wrong and rather than start Community Drama I should be professional about it all despite how angry I am about this entire situation and displeased with this all. I also don't really want anybody punished since I doubt it'll actually fix the real issue here but as I'm not staff I don't have room to talk nor would any of my opinions really sway the final verdict you all come to by the time I actually read up on the thread and wake up.

As I post this it is now 2 AM and man I didn't really think I'd go to bed making this after three hours. Good Night Willard Networks.

Now for my actual sign off this is Spooky Wolf signing off.

The NIXeighteen response.

Also apparently I screwed up in my first post with the weird attachment? Apologies for that. All the images are formatted as they were meant to be.

I asked to not be pinged, you decided to ping, others followed suit because they thought that was really cool, and you were punished as an example.

This isn't even a funny troll. You are not funny.

I don't know how you managed to write more than a few sentences about this. Are you okay?

just mute their pings, doesn't mean you need to bar them entirely from interacting

and to be fair, it's a ping, it's different from sending threats and hurling insults

Hiya, I'll be handling this specific report.

OK. I don't know exactly how many times spooky and other people has pinged him, but slick asked politely to stop and spooky (with others though I'm not sure) kept going. Meme or not, it's a no-brainer. You had the choice to stop - you kept going, and I don't blame zachary for what happened at this part.

This isn't really the biggest problem though since that's dealt pretty quick by manually turning off notifications or muting you personally and not for the whole twenty-four hours. A day mute for a screw-around like this isn't the best way this could have been conducted, and more like an overreaction (people really don't like pings, especially the sound it makes repeatedly). Zachary could have muted spooky from his end in regards to it and left it from there and still left you to interact with the community.

But what I'll say is that there was no need for the both of you to go /that far/ into this petty feud over pings. Especially in the public channels but at least you both took it to DMs and I appreciate that, thank you.

Two wrongs don't make a right in the case, to which zachary creates his own meme by muting spooky for a day, played the part that it was for a week which was a mind-game and caused unnecessary drama spirals. None of this should have happened in the first place and each of you did not show restraint.

It's really silly.

Though If other people were muted as well if they weren't that much involved, then that is a concern and the report will be taken legitimately. If they did tag zachary then I can understand, but there's still the means of showing restraint and committing to it personally through Discord settings that are readily available, like I said earlier.

TL;DR - it was unnecessary but the blame is shared equally, and only provided each party and other involved individuals to feel the side-effects of it, or directly from being muted over something that could have been so easily avoided. To which the situation got worse, instead of getting better.

Either way, Head of Staff will deal it from here.
