(Title intentionally similar to another rather negative thread) I've really been enjoying my time here on this server. So, my question for you guys to answer according to your own opinion: What do you like most about the server and Universe? What aspects of Willard are especially well made or most fun for you? I'll gladly start off, to get the discussion going.

I don't have a lot of experience to compare Willard to other HL2RP servers, but every day that I've joined, there seems to be some event going on, the city seems to be ever moving and there's visible change everyday. The overarching story concept is quite creative. I think that's very different to other servers, especially since the events are reactive and dependent on player input.

Another thing is getting to know other people. Harsh events, which were rarely seen on the servers I played on, facilitate roleplay with new people, on other servers I have found it hard to get to know people. However curfews, the recent raid on the warehouse or the decontamination event are all things that group strangers together and allow bonds to form with new people. Adding onto that, the passive roleplay (CPs joking around with one another or talking to citizens when noone is looking, citizens helping one another out like they would in a dystopia etc.(always within reason of course) ) has been so much fun, allowing me to immerse myself much more than on other servers.

So, now it's your turn: Which aspects of Willard do you like most?

In regards to the negative thread that turned from "The server is too soft" to "The server is physically slaughtering us please stop", well, not everyone will be satisfied but I presume for the time being that people's wants and needs are currently satisfied until that inevitable point it changes.

Short Stories is the thing I want to see more of. Since my exams are finished, I can now run forward and press the post thread button more often for signups. Yay for all of us.

is Willard on the upswing?

well it depends where you stand in Willard..

Warning: the following message comes from a relatively singular-faceted view of the server, this is because I am more of a slums-orientated player, so take it with a grain of salt.

With that out the way, the laymans answer would be Mostly likely.

Slum life is taking a turn for the better, with the Player BMD's added there is less admin reliance and we are heading toward a more orgnaic economy, the only issue with this, which is very apparent is that there are some groups and people who have a vast amount of wealth which came from a time when chips were easy to farm or come by, so there is a growing disparity in realtive wealth, and nothing short of a wipe would really fix this and like many actual slum players, I'm against this as it would cause too much of a headache.

Crafting is getting better, HOWEVER i think that a lot of early-game and late-game items within the crafting framework don't exist or may have a craft recipe but are not possible to craft on a reliable basis. Furthermore certain trash items have far more use than others and some are pretty useless in comparison. Furthermore certain recipies require so much material they are not economically viable for the savvy rebel.

an example

the Toz (the highest gun on the crafting list):

Requirements: Level 40, Metal workbench, Crafting workbench (this is fine)

Ingredients:
240x metal scrap
36x nails
16x cloth
32x wood scrap
24x plastic scrap
93x adhesive
16x breen water

for that amount of resource and what the TOZ actually is, it is not worth it, the chip amount of that alone is approximately 5-6k chips for a pretty mediocre weapon, it just isn't worth the time, money and effort to produce one.

I have said this before and i'll say it again, i wish there was more higher tier crafting stuff like the Crossbow, or Tech weapons which are a mesh of combine and earth tech, different tools, maybe even a spoofed mobile phone which is an upgrade from a radio in that you can send messages to other phones or even have a computer with a pre-combine bios on it for private messaging.

Combine vs Rebel relations: i can't speak much for the combine side, positively or negatively, what i can say is that for the most part they are ok, that being said, there still exist those within the ranks of CP's and Rebel echelons who actively go after people as a style of gameplay, all i have to say is that if your out to PK people, you probably haven't grasped the concept of roleplay, this is even outlined in the PK rules under 'Bad faith'.

Events: events are alright at the moment, the big infestation event going on at the moment is really interesting until enough zombies were spawned to give the rebels enough food to last a nuclear winter and then some. the little events done by other members of the CT and Devs have been a breath of fresh air, so yea on the whole events are good, again i cant speak for combine events and such as i have next to no knowledge of what they are or if they get any, i would think it would be fun if the combine got to do expedition-style missions like we do, albeit with a different set of parameters.

Economy: It would be nice for there to be a way to make chips, maybe with a quest vendor but this is hard to do, ultimately this could be solved with more expeditions but they take time to plan and not everyone is confident enough to do them. this is not an easy one to fix.

Voting: this is something that is wildly important but needs some form of mediation, if a vote for something is put forward that would effect a faction or a group and how they function, people who are not part of that faction or group should simply not be voting with regards to the implementation. This comes down to things like proposed changes to the combine that effect them internally, and then every slum dweller and their mother coming out the woodwork to try and crash the vote, the same can also be said for Combine-centric players voting on something like smuggling which is a localised factor in the rebel economy that has no bearing on them, if you play for one side, you shouldn't be making decisions for the other.

overall yes, an upswing.

Thanks for the answers so far :D. Interesting to see some other points of view about certain aspects of the server. Here just the reminder: It's a thread that's supposed to be mostly about positive aspects.

in my opinion it lacks the gloomy and depressing atmosphere of classic hl2rp, but I still play it every day and I don't really mind

I agree with this, it's a totally different atmosphere than the opening of HL2 portrays. Previous servers have kept that bleak feeling and aesthetic, which WI seems to have went in the opposite direction of with all the colourful propaganda banners and such. But if that's what it takes to keep certain players interested then idc, I'd rather have a populated server than 4 citizens sitting in the C18 plaza doing nothing.

To answer the question in the OP, still as a new player, my favourite part of the server is the extensive script usage. Which feels controversial to say but having all the grind and scripts and actual things to obtain keeps me enthusiastic and entertained as a player which will translate to me spending more time and energy to RP. Idk about you guys but I was just a young whipper snapper back in the early days of HL2RP and had all day and night to RP. Now we've all got jobs and houses to pay for so I don't wanna spend my precious free time just doing passive RP, I want to feel like I'm making progress in some way and now I can make progress regardless of who is on the server.

tl;dr the game elements make it actually fun to play
