Maybe sometimes I do, but that's because come on, CPs are power hungry 16 y.o's who live in basements, that's what they're like 90% of the time anyway. And I don't do it because of it though, hell, they are dicks to me when I just ask a normal question or don't do anything.

And even if I begin "toxicity" it's only in here, as on other HL2 Servers CPs were as chill as a pool of ice cubes on Arctic. Not like the Concentration camp guards on this server, they just love to cause pain.
pfffft, it's not the CP's being "concentration camp guards" that's the problem (they're not even close), it's the fact that CP's are just... bad. CP's have an abundance of resources, a lack of very tight structure and seemingly are given a little too much autonomy in interactions with citizens. This is what encourages behaving like a goober.
Oh, and yeah, you don't have to apply to be rogue. Which is just insane.

I'd really have liked HLA events to have happened in 2019, which is when the combine has had enough and turns everything (slowly) from Willard to retail, hopefully its not too late for a retcon?

there is no way to represent HL2 accurately because HL2 doesn't do anything
all the "oppression" people whimsically babble about on repeat like chittering hyenas is an NPC scripted to attack you for invading their personal space, NPCs saying "noo dont talk to me in public they dont like that" and thats it

there are no scheduled beatings, or actual "beating quotas" besides barney mentioning it -- probably as a joke, because he hates this fucking job, and its never mentioned since
civil protection is not an all-knowing dystopian big brother
there are no random searches (and don't mention the blocked off room in d1_trainstation_02; you don't know the context so don't even pretend like you do, and neither does the 'whole block' dilemma for the same reason)

there is nothing that explicitly says anything about how "oppressive" and "dystopian" the world is, whether it is through citizens' voicelines, metrocops', or dispatch. by way of interpreting anything, you make it into headcanons, and thus it no longer is canon.

a true, subtle, good dystopia, that is condusive to roleplay (and not worldbuilding; this isn't a fucking worldbuilding community; it's a roleplaying one) is one that subverts the oppression and makes it low-key, and makes the outbursts of overt violence a tipping point; something that breaks the camel's back. by making the "overtly evil" themes commonplace, all you're doing is writing torture porn and superiority complexes into your RP, and that says more about you than it does about your "closeness to the real, canon lore"

Fym I can make an hl2rp to represent hl2.

here's the way I do, you starve, or join the combine.

also you die within the first hour of arrival possibly.

Alright, I'm stepping in for a moment here.

You have been nothing but an annoyance and rude towards Civil Protection on this server. You are constantly insulting Civil Protection in LOOC and have been told to stop not only by the players of Civil Protection but the admin team as well. Your talk of "Where are the Nice Cops" is simply not valid due to your poor attitude towards every single one. You have been warned time and time again by admins to stop.

Is it not our fault you do not understand Serious RP PKs. People have offered to give you guides and explain it. All you have done is turn it around and try to whine and complain as to why it is "unfair" or "ruins RP". I understand you're new to this, but being an asshole to people who play a certain type of character is simply unacceptable.

You have been nothing but insulting and rude towards the players and admins of Civil Protection.

Cut it out.
Okay but I didn't want to insult admins, because well, how do I know if Admin is a CP? I would never insult an admin on purpose, I'm not Bub Games.

cant be I was a rebel for 3 days and I managed to find the most badassedsed most epicest guy who said 'I dont fear death!!' who was also gay I think but also super sweet and kind so epic too man like omg bro

dude using looc to insult cps is just cringe please stop

The world is slowly being drained of literally everything on it and the human race is being genocided, HL2 is a dystopia whether you're allowed to wear your own clothes or not.

The difference between a more lenient regime and a more strict regime is that one is smart (gives people comfort as they die so they are less likely to rebel until it's too late) and one is stupid (gives people no choice but to fight back or they starve to death).

You are 100% spot on. Half of the things I keep hearing perpetuated have 0 basis in reality or in any of the games. It's weird headcanon that somehow made its way down from clockwork and is often being heralded by purists as 'true lore' when there is absolutely nothing canonically confirming any of the bizarre statements people make. Some people appear to have this weird power fantasy where they play a Combine-affiliated character with the sole intention of perpetuating some imaginary dystopian ideal that doesn't appear nearly as prominently in the game as they make it out to be. They want people to be miserable both in-character and out-of-character, and it's a mentality I am very much planning on eradicating.

It's a game. The general idea of the setting should be maintained while creativity (yes, including individual creativity) has space to occur. There's absolutely nothing wrong with individual character progression.

At the end of the day, cops are either too nice, or too brutal. Enforcing one will always shift the bitching to the opposite side of the spectrum. Even now, in this thread, people can't seem to agree on whether cops are too nice or brutal Gestapo agents. For me, that's a good sign: different experiences mean we have a multi-faceted faction that allows for roleplay most people can bare with.

We see drunk citizens in HL2
We see evidence of fast food
We see citizens with fresh produce
We see citizens riding bikes (as of Alyx)
We see citizens wearing their own clothing (again, as of Alyx which may have changed by HL2)

Yet if you ask the average person playing HL2RP they'll claim all of this is lore-breaking and not true to the games. They'll advocate for worse oppression than in the source material but would be the first to quit playing when the reality hits.

Some of this can be true, but there is absolutely a point to where people need to stop making alternative decisions regarding the source material and accept it as it is. This is a HL2RP server, deviating too far will basically unravel the source its based on and make us some generic, inconsistent setting with basically no relation to the original concept. Nor any anchored set of rules that prevent retarded ideas from being realized.

Willard is already very different from HL. Anyone who would claim Willard is puritan needs to actually play HL2 or get their head checked. Its fine to deviate from the source, but it should be done with reason and still do its best to keep in line with the general themes, overarching plot, and setting of the universe.

If they dont, then you get some of Willards lore at its worst. Hyper-nationalist, full-scale revolutions that match the Combine forces in open warfare. Rebels tossing nukes at eachother. Humans being placed into vortigaunt bodies after making deals with advisors. All kinds of horrifically stupid shit.

HL at this point is a sort of compass to keep the setting and story marching on the right path. Interpreting what happens in it differently is fine, so long as you can reason why the deviation is needed and explain it away.

As a final note, much can be gleamed from the opening of HL2 and Alyx respectively. That is ultimately part of why they are renowned games. What takes most games 5 minute cutscenes and endless expositional dialogue, HL2 does without skipping a beat or pulling you out of the experience. May have been no point in saying this, but I wanted to put a damper in the logic some people have (Not even you really), that many of the servers problems come from 'following HL2 lore' in a HL2RP server.

you need to be funny to in order to make jokes, you know
Not all jokes are funny to everyone, and me saying "CPs have no rights" maybe isn't a community joke in Willard.
But I guess serious RP players (which is new territory for me) just don't joke around? Idk, it's funny to me (the joke)

There is very much a point where following the HL2 lore can and does get crippling, however.

When you have CP's who do nothing but walk from point a to point b while ignoring and dismissing citizen (something I experienced firsthand last time I played consistently) because THE REALISM/IMMERSION all it does is bore the fuck out of cops and bore the fuck out of everyone else, stuff like that.
