same people who wish for a grittier setting in this server are the same people who will PK appeal their character after initiating a firefight and losing. same people that will call CP players power-hungry in OOC when they get oppressed IC
same people that will start a debate on the charges they're getting in LOOC after they ran from CPs.
you'll say that CPs are going too soft on citizens until you are inconvenienced by a CP and then make a complaint about it on the forums
that is being pretentious

@Bounter
Consider this a word of courtesy. Should this toxic behaviour continue, whether it be here on the forums or in game, I will suspend your forum account and issue a ban in-game. This should serve as a final warning, this toxicity and behaviour is unacceptable here and I will not subject the players or other staff to this constant flow of negativity.

the only thing that bothers me is that this server is tbc and not s2k :P

You are 100% spot on. Half of the things I keep hearing perpetuated have 0 basis in reality or in any of the games. It's weird headcanon that somehow made its way down from clockwork and is often being heralded by purists as 'true lore' when there is absolutely nothing canonically confirming any of the bizarre statements people make. Some people appear to have this weird power fantasy where they play a Combine-affiliated character with the sole intention of perpetuating some imaginary dystopian ideal that doesn't appear nearly as prominently in the game as they make it out to be. They want people to be miserable both in-character and out-of-character, and it's a mentality I am very much planning on eradicating.

It's a game. The general idea of the setting should be maintained while creativity (yes, including individual creativity) has space to occur. There's absolutely nothing wrong with individual character progression.

At the end of the day, cops are either too nice, or too brutal. Enforcing one will always shift the bitching to the opposite side of the spectrum. Even now, in this thread, people can't seem to agree on whether cops are too nice or brutal Gestapo agents. For me, that's a good sign: different experiences mean we have a multi-faceted faction that allows for roleplay most people can bare with.

Yeah, there are just so many roleplayer tropes that have seeped into the very foundation of HL2RP that people have revered it as canonical adherence whenever a server aligns to those tropes. It was like pulling teeth at TnB when I was trying to get people to accept something that was not only vastly different but much smoother to the overall server health in that the systems and roles that have been solidified over so many years are erosive to a positive user experience.

How Overwatch and by extension how CPs have been degraded to non-character status in so many servers (In the case of Overwatch, by locking them to inane 'robot' non-personalities because of lore misconceptions, and in the case of CPs by restraining them from participating in the RP environment in any way that isn't on duty, isn't behind the mask, and so on.) is a stark example of this in how a common misconception has hindered a server's ability to allow players to do the one thing it's supposed to offer: Roleplay.

I also strictly do not believe anyone when they tell me that HL2 needs to be more oppressive when it is very apparent to me that said person does not know the difference between roleplaying oppression and oppressing roleplay.

Alright, I will not do it anymore, but also a question.
Is being rude to CPs IC acceptable or also not? Because if it's also bad I won't do it too. But making sure since Idk if OOC rules apply to IC ones

No, it doesn't apply to IC. You can be rude IC all you want.

Yeah as long as it stays in-character you can do whatever.

Is this a Merlin post? Cause If the peak of character to you is a whiny self-insert who is recreated thrice-over and who accomplishes half of all tasks via OOC intervention and forum posts...
You down bad boi.

When you have CP's who do nothing but walk from point a to point b while ignoring and dismissing citizen (something I experienced firsthand last time I played consistently) because THE REALISM/IMMERSION all it does is bore the fuck out of cops and bore the fuck out of everyone else, stuff like that.

Also, this is an extreme and very, very few people advocate for this. Its simply not synonymous with the desire to keep the setting grounded and reasonable.

Don't even start Casto was such a shit villain it was laughable

You can make that argument but it made roleplay and brought people to the city, people liked it and got involved. No offence, I haven't exactly seen a great deal do that since. Most of the people who tried got stonewalled and quit or moved to Short Stories.

Was Casto shit? Personal opinion. Did he make roleplay and did the city thrive? Undeniably yes, and more than almost any other CA I've seen in my time in the community. Hell, I've literally barely seen the Board at all. In the two weeks I was on all day every day (besides mornings) I don't remember seeing a single one leave the Nexus. They're gonna have even less reason to do so now.

Again, sure, I don't always agree with how he presented criticism but its hard to say he wasn't spot-on with some of his assessments. @Imperator RAD-X has no trouble admitting the EPIC DYSTOPIA vibe that was being pushed at the time was ultimately a massive failure, but voicing that was exactly what initially got MC on the managements shitlist.

Also, I mean, you could bring up the fact that most of his deaths got appealed for a reason lol.

Also, this is an extreme and very, very few people advocate for this. Its simply not synonymous with the desire to keep the setting grounded and reasonable.

Just because it isn't advocated for doesn't mean it won't happen again, because that's where this slippery slope led last time. Having mean and brutal cops just leads to people avoiding them.

And as I said two pages ago, the 'tone' of the server isn't what landed things where it is. Other issues did. Keeping the more relaxed tone is what is going to ensure the players you have stay though, as they obviously enjoy enough to play it.

Chasing people who claim they'll play if you change x/y/z is going to hurt a lot when they invariably don't, but now you've lost those you have too.

yes

but most servers have to soften their lore so its actually playable and not /me picks up rations and gets beaten

yeah just like, don't be an ass to people outside of the game, that should be a given??

imo CPs are handled poorly in general, there isn't an overarching theme on how they should act or work.

for instance, CPs get no repercussions for being assholes to loyalists (even Tier 6s) just because somehow CPs are above Tier 6s in the social ladder (which literally makes no sense). loyalists are the most trusted individuals in cities and they are the ones who actually keep cities functional while CPs are just random citizens who got tired of being beaten by the system and wanted an easy way out.

in canon, the only reason citizens join civil protection is to get better living conditions (in willard, this aspect doesn't hold much ground given how the average sewer dweller has better living conditions than CPs; they've got a roof over their head, eat well and don't have to work 20 hour shifts) so I really don't see why people would continue respecting CPs (especially loyalists when realistically CPs would cater to their every whim) when all CPs are is a bunch of reskinned slumrats who spend their free time arguing about velociraptors v. houndeyes
