''I didn't go trough something at the extent of what you did go trough''
''You'd be... In human terms, a true spartian''

IT'ER:
''...Haha... Maybe so...''

It'Er... is different from his brothers

A Vortigaunt of barely 20 years of age that was born on Xen, just to get to Earth on a portal 3 years later.
He fell in Madrid... where chaos had already set in quite quickly... As soon as he realized his bindings weren't on him anymore, He got to work, he decimated any Xenian wildlife that was around him, grunts, headcrabs, antlions, it didn't matter, if it was from xen, it was dead already... He planned for it to be a last blaze of glory... A symbol of his hatred for xen and what it did to him in the mere 3 years he had been weaved into being, and he was fine with that...

However...

This chaos wouldn't go unnoticed to the eyes of humans... Who saw this completely foreign alien battle trough the hordes of xen... They tought to themselves...

''Whatever the hell he may be, he's killing what we're killing, so he's our ally as far as we're concerned''

With that mindset they went to his aid... Just in time to save him... He might be quick but he wasn't invincible... And as such, he met his first humans...
In Madrid the citizens tought him spanish... Among other more unorthodox things... Being young he was very easy to influence... Pair that with a lack of interaction with his brothers and slang as well as human mannerisms rubbed off on him... He didn't particularly mind however, These people saved is life and welcomed him when he thought he was already dead, so to be influenced by them wasn't something he deemed bad at all...

3 blissful years pass by...

Until they came about

Enslaved once again by a new tyrant this time... He began is journey trough the cities of the Combine
Starting with...

CITY 59
Madrid... altough a husk of it's former self... persevered trough 3 years of gruesome fighting

Once the capital to Spain and house to a gorgeous culture... Thorn apart by Political war of ideology...

The winners of this conflict were the futurists...

And the effects were felt in spades

In the outer limits of the city, a zone reserved for loyalists and futurists... As the center of the city was now a gigantic... Self sustaining industrial complex... inbetween these 2 areas, the once unrecognized futurist militia now given official recognition known as the ''Phalanx'' rampage trough the slums in search of anyone agaisnt futurism and it's doctrines... It'Er just so happened to be at the Border between indigent and the outer-limit... Working at a conveniently placed hospital... Placed there for profit...

And by god did it deliver...

There was no shortage of slummers who were beaten almost to death being transported to the hospital... Or just those who wanted to cloud their mind with one of the drugs on sale... Of which a futurist city 59 had absolutely no regulations for... If you had the credits, and you wanted it, it was yours, you could have a criminal record, you could be a tier 6 loyalist, you could be part of the phalanx, it didn't matter, just pick your poison of choice... And let it consume you...
It'Er's task in all of this mess?
Quartermaster... And there was no shortage of work to be done...
He worked alongside is fellows learning all recipes for all Drugs existent, and all medical equipment he could produce... He seemed to get the hang of it very quickly as well, he was meticulous with his work, yet stunningly agile in his execution...
After years of faithful service to the clinic... One day he was dragged out of his room as he slept... And thrown into a train to his new home... He had no clue where he was going...

He just knew it was far...

Very... far...

As the train finally came to a halt at his designated station... It'Er received the warm welcome of a gunstock from an OTA delegate straight to the skull, passing out instantly...
He woke up in what is now... An extremely familiar place to him... Altough at this time... He had no idea where he was... It seemed to be a very old prison cell amidst a long corridor and dozens of other cells just like his... As he pondered where he was and why he was even brought here, the sound of a door being unlocked echoes trough to corridor... And a man can be seen infront of the bars to It'Er's cell... He asks the heavily armed OTA soldier in his company...

''Is this him?''

The delegate simply nods, confirming his question... After which the man turns to It'Er and with a smile he says:

''Hello there pal... You are currently in the Colloseum... To be more specific... The gladiatorial cells... Where those who are about to participate are held until the show... I'll keep it simple for you, from the other side of the arena, a man is going to enter trough the gates...
A well known criminal we succesfully captured...
You want to live? Kill him.
Oh... And by the way...

BENVENUTO
A ROMA!

It'Er figured out from the man's words finally where he was... It seems the administration saw fit to reward him for is exemplary conduct in Madrid... So they offered him a new home

City 32... Italy's capital...

birthplace to futurism and everything it stood for...

Speed, Industry, Youth, Machinery, Progress, and Violence...

Rome had it all...

He was then unshackled so he could move freely... and given any psichoactive drug of his choosing, after taking a pill of transhumano he was tossed into the arena... The sun blinded him for a second as he stepped on the sand, all around him he heard the roars of excitement from the crowd... Another day of rampage had begun in the Colloseum...
And It'Er was the first act...

Needless to say... If you're hearing this story...

It'Er emerged victorious from this duel... And as such was offered a true place in Rome...

It didn't take long for him to find the hospital stationed INSIDE the colloseum... He applied to work there and keep performing is duties as quartermaster... Seems the director had gotten word of him before he even applied... And he was given a warm welcome...
Some years passed in Rome... It'Er grew more proficient in his duties by the day, learning ways to make his chemical mechanisms more efficient, give out more yield, and offer more purity to his products, no matter if it was drugs to sell to the crowd so they can add that extra... ''spice'' to the show, or to offer to gladiators before their fights, or medical equipment to treat those who fell to the sand and were spared, It'Er was good at his duty... and he took pride in that...
Once in a while however... His regular duties would be interrupted by OTA delegates dragging him out of his post in the lab, where he would be put in the gladitorial cells to fight to await is turn to fight once again... This was regular practice for Vortigaunts... The crowd took a liking to their animalistic and primal nature... As such the colloseum had to deliver...

It'Er...

Was unrelenting

Not due to immense strength or resilience like most other gladiators... In fact It'Er was quite weak and frail, his height being incredibly below the average even for a regular human, much less a vortigaunt... What made him dangerous however... Was exactly that, since he was so small he was quick... very quick, quick enough where his small frame combined with his agility made it nigh impossible to hit him, and while he dodged... He made sure to put on a show.
The manager of the colloseum took notice to this... He realized the crowd liked seeing him fight... so he put him to fight.
What was a fight once a week, became 2, then 3... And so on...
It had been one month of ceaseless Rampage for It'Er, what was once simple duel fights became 1v2's or even 1v3's where he was given armor, 1v1's agaisnt OTA Delegates or Rogue CP's that were caught in their betrayal and sentenced to Gladiatorial battles until they died, Free for all matches with dozens of gladiators thrown to the sand where only one was to leave alive...
It'Er persevered trough it all
The manager of the Colloseum tought to himself it was best to slow it down a bit... After all it was not unheard of to hear of gladiators commiting suicide to avoid fighting again... And It'Er had made a name for himself... The crowd wouldn't be pleased to hear of him dying like that, so he planned on not calling upon him to fight for a while...
2 weeks passed... An OTA delegate came trough the door to his office and told him It'Er wanted to speak with him...
Altough surprised he accepted the request... He was let inside and the manager said:
''So It'Er... What brings you here?''

''...We want to volunteer to fight in the arena''

The Manager barely believed what he had just heard... It wasn't unheard of to hear of humans dedicating themselves to painting the sand in the arena with blood... But never once had he heard of a Vortigaunt volunteering to fight.
''A-Are you sure? I was trying to avo-

It'Er interrupted him saying:

''Yeah Yeah, We've been here long enough, we know how it goes, you force someone to risk his neck enough he loses it and kills himself... But...
We...Like...This
We want to keep fighting in the colloseum... And we only ask one thing... Never put us to fight a vortigaunt that isn't drilled... Besides that? Throw Houndeyes, OTA's, Criminals, hell, EVEN FUCKING GUARDIAN ANTLIONS IF YOU CAN FIT THEM IN THE ARENA... And we'll win.

At Hearing that the manager just looked at It'Er for a while... He closes his eyes for a minute or so in deep thought... After that... He opened them with a smile, and said:

''Follow the OTA delegate... He'll show you to your cell... The Colloseum appreciates your deligency... Gladiator''

And with that... The carnage resumed... The stakes of his fights getting higher and higher... Fights where he was uncollared and offered Morphine to numb the pain of the shackles... almost as if fighting on borrowed time... morphine ran out... So did his right to move freely. Battles where he used firearms fitted for Vortigaunt usage. Survival rounds against the hordes of Xen they could fit in the arena... His life went on, theirs didn't.

When he wasn't fighting... He kept doing his duties has quartermaster... He had amassed quite the reputation as a Gladiator, and a lot of people passed by the hospital to talk with It'Er... Most of them were surprised by who they found... For such a gruesome monster in the pit... They found a welcoming presence that altough foul mouthed out of habit... Was nice, An impressive feat for a being so young to be this disciplined... The monster within him only came out when it was time, And he made sure to keep it that way...
More years go by... It'Er only grew to be loved even further by the crowd, and to be a better quartermaster, life for him was perfect here, and there was nothing he wanted he didnt have... Even tho he was willing to fight for free, the administration thought it fitting to offer him rewards for his continued diligence... Credits...Food... And drugs, mostly drugs...

Until... Casto was no more

A massive terrorist attack would desolate Rome... in which Silvio Casto, founder of futurism would end up severely wounded... He later passed peacefully in his sleep...
His substitute would make a mausoleum at the center of the Colloseum... And altough Futurism was changing into a new era... The carnage remained in casto's honor... And such his purpose remained...
Some more months would go by... It was now june of 2018... It'Er had spent 14 years of his life under Combine rule, more than half of his time alive, and then... It happened again... But this time he was given warning compared to his prior rellocation... The Colloseum manager and it's crowds were saddened by the news that the mightiest gladiator of Vorti-kind would not die in battle as they all expected... But in a way, this meant he had won, from 2010 to 2018... From 12 years of age where he first experieced the violence of Rome... To 20 years, where he would leave a veteran... On his way to the train, the manager went to see him one last time... He bid him farewell and luck on his new journey.
Sure enough the train came... And with it went It'Er

In the trip... He tought of all he went trough to get here... and organized his toughts... He definitely didn't really like the Combine as a whole... But it's cities gave him quite a lot... He was no stranger to helping his freed brothers from within the city... his position gave him just enough influence to help make their lifes that little bit better, the resistance was quite weak in both the cities he was resident on... as gruesome as futurism was... It sure as shit was effective at dealing with opposition... So he never really got to form that much of an opinion on them...
Maybe now... as he moves to more... ''Civilized'' lands...
He'll finally have that chance

The Combine
We... Don't exactly hate you as much as we should most likely... You're still pathetic,
but we're honestly more curious that anything really... What are your objectives... Why is this a necessity for you... We'll never know

Vortigaunts
It's nice to have someone you can always trust and love entirely without any fear of betrayal, We'll persevere... We dealt with much worse at this point

Humans
It was really one hell of a trip to meet another species that matched ours in intelligence, the owners of xen were mostly braindead retards... Getting to learn your languages, your cultures, your ideologies and doctrines, it made me who I am... And I wouldn't change a thing

Civil Workers Union
We work in here, it's what you'd expect, Around 80% of the people employed here don't show up, from the 20% that do 15% share one braincell that bounces around between all of them...
Why do we respect them then? Simple...
If shit goes wrong and they need to get it done?
they WILL get it done... and at it's core, that's what matters

We wonder how they're doing... hell we wonder if any of the ones we knew are even working there still... Luck be with them.

Civil Medical Union
We can count with the fingers on one of our hands the amount of times you were actually READY to save someone's life... However you are still doctors... And we worked in there for a long time, we got a soft spot for it... However fucking bad they may be in this city...

Civil Protection
How to describe these fuckers... Imagine playing russian roulette with six bullets in the chamber... Which makes it so that the only way to survive the round is by the hammer and or trigger mechanism not functioning, thus not firing the bullet trough your head... THAT'S the sensation we get interacting with any of these people, they are so entirely unpredictable it's actually impossible to discern what to think of them as a WHOLE, There's this one dude we had a nice and emotional conversation about what service did to him as a person... Then there's this guy who deducted 5 cohesion from us for sitting on a fucking bench

Loyalists

A sack of shit with some diamonds inside, like civil protection but milder in nature is the best way to put it

OTA
Good at killing and hard to kill, Only difference between now and Rome is that the arena is bigger now... Spares us no mercy when we fight again aye? We'll give you neither in return

Resistance
Wayward bunch of scoundrels... Assassins, thieves and slaves... Exactly as it should be... We might not live to see your glory, but we'll gladly join the fight

Raymond Saint Albert

Can't really blame your hatred for slummer now..... Well... we know whoever did that wasn't one of ours... But still... that's not really an argument we can use... We respect you, we truly believe you are a good man... but trusting you sadly will never be a possibility... Not in the circumstances we're on

We wish you luck wherever you went, you were a disciplined man... even if our views never really aligned we still hope you are living peacefully wherever you went

Alex Weaver
A human we know for a fact we can count on... He carries the wisdom of a human elder and the vitality of a human youngling, as seen by his deligency at work... The CWU really struck gold with you.

...Really?...This is your ending?... Killed by beings so insignificant that the air they waste by being alive is an insult to humankind?... We... We could have been there for you... And yet... We failed you... We're sorry... You were going to achieve so much... Your name will be sung for eternity... and mark our words... If we get to them before CP's...
Not even ash is gonna be left as renmants of what they used to be by the time we're done.
....We're so proud of you... Brother... Rest now... you deserve it.

Damarco Hikins
A man who persevered trough a lot of trials... it's visible in his demeanor, We probably won't see him again anytime soon, but he wasn't a bad man at all... We hope he made it out...

Samuel Lacrose
Another down to earth manager of the CWU... It's honestly impressive how they all they seem to have that quality... We killed a turr infested beast together... Sadly we talked very little with one another besides that... We should probably do something about that in the future

Michael Hoxworth
You're reliable... We'll give you that... But holy SHIT you got issues you gotta deal with... And they really aren't as little as you might think... But due to that conversation with us and Raymond... We really aren't that certain what to think of you anymore...

If you want honesty from us? We expected him to die, it was very much basically a guarantee if you take into account the variables... You were a reliable man in your work with a lot of issues to deal with, issues that pushed others away... Seems they brought them closer in this situation... Way... Too... Close... We will never get to know if you'd have changed, but hey... Death is just another moment... Rest... That's all that's left for you.

Arthur Roosevelt
From what we've seen he's pretty kind, acted recklessly in our first IC mission, but hey we did exactly the same... However we haven't interacted with you that much since then, only thing we remember is that if you make another cryo workshift then we'll look at you very angrily from across the warehouse... Heh... Jokes aside, hope to talk to him some more

Congratulations on your promotion... technically you're our boss now... We don't envy your position, having into account the requirements we'd need to get it we'll gladly stay right here... THE ISSUE here... is the fact they put a man in IC management that didnt even know what chemicals killed which strains... And that sounds like a bad choice if you ask me

Joseph James
Well... You AREN'T a bad person that's for certain, but your work ethic is basically non existent... You can be playful that's perfectly fine, but outright dicking around with a fucking CCA member is a good way to see the bottom of the pit, and calling our shackles ''equipment''... We don't think we'd have trusted our own self control to not decapitate you if our shackles were fake at that moment.

Well... Once again we'd be lying if we said this was unexpected, you might have been an idiot, but you didn't deserve to die like that... It is our belief that all living beings deserve to die with some semblance of dignity... after all it is the end of a journey... Nobody deserves to go the way you did

Spades
We share the same love for chemistry, and there's always a special bond to be had by those who have the same love for a proficiency... You've been here for so little time... Yet you did ALL OF THIS already, We genuinely just don't even know how you could go higher, but knowing you? You'll just find a way... And we'll be right there with you.

Wherever it is you went with them... We wish you peace, it's least we can offer you...
We will miss you... Sister...

Tovarish
You're nice, WAY too nice, it's almost strange to see so much genuine generosity coming from a being, seeing you's always a joy, We're proud to call you an ally of ours... We'll share a glass one day aye?

Red
An ally of Spades in an ally of ours... And it's always comforting to know that people like you are there, willingly risking themselves to give us freedom... We'll make sure to pay whichever price needed to keep you and your allies safe... We'd die in peace if we did

Pathfinder
After working trough your pain and FINALLY allowing it to pour out, you're set on the path to better yourself... Just know we're there for you... After hearing the hardships you endured?... A lot of things made sense very quickly... Now keep going like you always have... And the rest will be history

Connor
You were let inside the clinic without an ounce of worry, which means you're an ally to spades, as such we assume you're trustworthy enough... but the amount of times we talked is negligible at best, so we have to work on that...

Chloe
It's always a good day when we get to see people we saw above enter trough the door... You were nice to speak with up above, and even better than speak with down below, We talked little but you know more than enough about us to get us kilked, yet would you look at that... we aren't... Must be a good sign aye?

Ant
Is new around the life but doesn't change the fact she's good at it, once again it boils down to the same thing, a person that entered trough that door as a certain degree of trust achieved by predefinition... Hope to speak with her some more

Heinrich Tischer
At the beginning you were just a nice man to speak with... Now... We're not so sure... not after all the things we heard about your ancestors and past... Which you seem to uphold to this day still...

Laurentia Berrycloth
...I ruined your life... I could have just left you alone... but trough my own choices I ended up leading you to a cruel finale.... We'll sing your name... It's the most we can give you... We hope it's at least enough for a semblance of redemption... However undeserving I am of it

Eliah Siemah
A man who left is mark on this city in record time, yet remained grounded in reality ... You also are incredibly open minded, you don't belittle others for having diverging views to you, and try your very best to add to them so that both parties can mature from the exchange... A rare person to find that's for sure.

Winnie
Ayyyyyy our boy, most people seem to outright dread talking with him, we very much disagree, you don't understand just how much people do their best to never stand out until you meet THIS guy, he just shines bright trough them all with that oddly charismatic aura of his, he admitted to us he wasn't really doing that well, We wish him tenacity for his journey

Haven't heard from him in quite a while... Knowing him? we honestly just expect him to be dead... Another one to the interval, at least we hope you died peacefully

Arga'Lahh
You might not have been the founder, but the spark began with you brother, We will endure

...Where are you... How did you just disappear?

Shaa'lah-vahh
We're pretty sure we cause around 90% of the headaches he has, But ultimately we know he cares, He's also much more open minded than he lets on... Wouldn't have seen him as high as a kite if he wasn't... That was a good day indeed... To see a Sage go on a trip

We haven't heard of him in a long time... Not even within the shifting of the flux... and knowing him... that can only mean one thing... We hope your death in battle was a glorious one

Kaar'Raf
Our leader... A great leader and an even greater ally, we know we're in good hands if we follow the path you carve out for us

Ultimately... We still achieved something truly meaningful in the little time in lasted... May the infinite knowledge of the vortessence be the most blissful resting place for you... until we meet again

Gro'Ha
Your illness doesn't make you lesser than any of us, if anything if just give us more of a reason to respect you, to suffer the way you do and to keep going... We know the feeling... You'll see freedom yet brother, mark my words

It grows clearer and clearer everyday doesn't it brother?... Welcome home... We all missed you

A major turn of events lead you to a sorrowful state... you seem resolute however... Willpower is an excellent pathway to glory... Keep going...

Chaa'Tii

...You're quite the gambler aren't you?... Hehe... Seems you won the game at this point...
HOW ABOUT ANOTHER ONE... HIGHER STAKES THIS TIME...

...You enter this city... manipulated by savages to nullify yourself, achieve freedom, achieve your connection back... AND AFTER ALL OF THAT... YOU HAD THE FUCKING BRILLIANT IDEA TO PERPETUATE THE CYCLE AND SUCCUMB TO SAVAGERY YOURSELF... God fucking dammit...
May the interval be eternal for you... And may your name never get redemption

Kura'Nar
...That wasn't you was it?... It was the OTHER nulled guy... We really need to try and speak privately with you, the midget clearly has no redemption left but you just might... Maybe you and Chaa'Tii are one and the same... and they just didn't care to listen to you... We need to make sure you get saved if that's the case...

...We were right, it wasn't your fault, and yet all of them treated you as if it was... We hope to at least give you a glimpse of what we always had, the connection... the desire to thrive together, a brother... See you around... We'll check on you whenever we can

'Robert'
4 feet of pure unadulterated chaos, Imagine leaving the train after a rellocation and the first thing you do is headbutt some dude in the dick... We must admit... We never really truly understood the concept of ''paternal instinct'' that humans seemed to have for their kids... When they could even have them that is... But hearing him call himself a ''defect''... Hearing that his ritual parents just discarded him like he was a pile of trash just because he was born nulled?... Guess we know now what that instinct is... We'll try our best to teach him to be proud of himself... To overcome... To conquer

Meh'Kar
I did it brother... I did it for you... However much it hurts that you weren't here waiting for me... I'll thread forward... One step at a time...
