Backstory:
The year is 20** as a young Kris sat by the window in his room, safe in his home in Leuven. His mother busy in the garden pulling some weeds, his father in the garage tinkering away, something he always enjoyed in his spare time. As the five year old watched the cloud he could see something strange he’d never seen before, a strange cloud he’d never seen before in his life. Before he could run down to the garden to ask his mother what was happening, the strange cloud touched down and emitted a pulse which sent a titanic wall of blue light across the landscape. After the initial shock a metallic roar could be heard as something descended from the skies.
The war for earth had begun.
September 6th 2014, City 57. As everyone rushed to the evacuation tunnels, Combine forces gained on the remaining rebels. Manhacks swarmed the tunnels and cut into any and all opposition they identified as those who had deployed them mercilessly marched in, opening fire at the defenders who resisted and capturing those who couldn’t defend themselves or surrendered. A now 16 year old Kris was led to the tunnel by his parents, now clad in resistance uniform each with a firearm in their hands. Despite his desire for him to stay with them they knew staying meant capture and subsequent amputation, and as such with a mighty push they shoved him into the drainage tunnel, the last time they’d see each other.
Minutes of walking turned to hours until finally he saw light, his liberation from the dark. Upon reaching the surface and wandering back into the industrial complex City 57 was, he was soon apprehended and questioned. With no CID to speak of and seemingly no background in the eyes of the UU, the officers asked simply what his name was, under the assumption they were dealing with a fresh transport who'd lost their CID.

“My name… My name is Walker… John, Walker…”

December 14th 2016, City 13. As the dust settled on the streets CP and CMU personnel alike rushed onto the scene. The pavement riddled with spent casings, the walls perforated with bullet holes from both the aggressor and the protectors alike. Among the bodies were plenty of civilians, loyalists as a matter of fact, the target audience the rebels wished to reach. Among them, a young French woman to which a petrified young man stumbled, dropping to his knees as he looked into her once vivid blue eyes, now staring at the sky blankly. He placed a single hand upon her cheek as he barely managed to utter her name.

“M… M-Marie...”

October 27th 2017, City 13. A slender figure walked down the halls of the Ration Centre, slowly making his way to the pickup terminal to collect his ration as something else came out with it. It was a letter, one with a seal bearing the UU logo. Outside he opened it and read it silently.

“Congratulations dear citizen! You will soon be moved to a new home. Fret not over what you have achieved here. Our benefactors have taken all needed measurements to make sure what you have done and collected here won’t be lost.
Deposit all your belongings at a Civil Protection checkpoint to avoid re-education.

Destination: City 24”

Personal Notes:
"What a mess... What a mess! I had honestly hoped that my experiences relating to the slums would have either passed on by now or would no longer haunt me, or at least not as obviously. And here I am now, diagnosed with a dragging on spore infection, put on a train to a facilty Breen knows where to be treated by Breen knows who. I suppose now might be as good a time as any to start taking notes in case I'm gone for an extended period of time or, in the worst case, don't return at all. Though this is unlikely if what Jen told me is right. I trust her judgement. Being guided by civil protection to a train with a warning was also a first. If I return with another case of a spore infection I'm not going to a hospital, but to jail! To jail for crying out loud! It was an accident that caused me this in the first place. Can I help getting trapped in some underground tunnel by accident when I was new and alone? I suppose this is my punishment for ever mingling in that environment to begin with. The greatest mistake I've ever made in this city. But, as I said: it's a big mess. Only time will tell what comes of it. Jen, I hope you're right."

"Today Mr Siemens showed me what's arguably the most scenic spot in all of 17 accessible to any citizen... It was quite a lovely view, apart from the green smog that obscured our vision. And it was raining too, not too soft neither too hard. I like weather like that. It gives a very serene ambiance in my opinion. Sadly enough I wasn't aware at the moment that said rain would cause me a lot of trouble... Of all the things I've been through in my life, of all the things to cause me physical harm, gravity so far hadn't been added to the list yet. That was until I came to the realisation that rain on smooth metal rungs of a ladder act as a great lubricant... Within seconds I fell flat with my back on a large metal pipe suspended above the pavement several meters below the ladder I was on. Elias tried to help, but it seeme the rain was dead set on its goal of seeing me tumble. Slipping off the pipe I fell several more meters down until I hit ground level, but this time not on my back, but on my leg. My left one to be exact. I've never felt a crack that potent it rattled my entire frame. Before Elias could approach me several CP's had gathered around me. If I could see their faces I'm sure there'd be a morbid grin on a least one... Of course the best course of action in their mind was to kick the injurd man in the face with the buttstock of a rifle, toy around with them, pushing them over and then forcefully resetting their leg as painfully as possible before sending them to the clinic on their own. The only reprieve I got that day was a weak painkiller to soothe the pain, before having the relief ripped away when a cast had to be put around it. Now I have 7 weeks of crutches and an annoying cast ahead of me. All for a simple view on a rainy day."
"Finally... Going home. I never thought I'd be longing for City 24, but after 17 there's no doubting it. The constant underclass presence... The toxic air... The polictical state... Before I thought 17 would be a utopia, as it's the home city of our planet's administrator. And it may very well be still be, but that statement does not apply to industrial 17. It was a shithole when we arrived, and during our stay the presence of City 24 residents seemed to help a bit, maybe. I can't even begin to imagine what the place will look like now that all major shops, all CP units and all the decent citizens from 24 are going back home. Heh... The decent citizens... At least those who survived... Sven didn't deserve it. I feel sorry for Ophelie... And several of those pigs who were native to 17 wanted to join us on the train home. Some got through, but luckily the majority was halted and sent back to die in the rotten abandoned streets where there were once shops and opportunities. Industrial 17, goodbye and good riddance."

"Today I experienced something I truly hoped I would never have to face again... The battle between CP and rebels up front... I just... I can't. Especially not what they did... Sally told me I shouldn't generalise all rebels, not classify all of them as monsters. But after today, I'm not quite sure. I mean... Who attacks a clinic? Who does that?! For something as dumb as mere medical supplies, they are willing to threaten the lives of not only our protectors, not only several innocent civilians, but of the CMU director, of Jen?! She's worked her ass off for folks like them, keeping them alive whenever one would find themselves on the lit up part of a stun baton or after some misadventure down the sewers. And this is how they repay her, with the end of a rifle pushed against her back, using her as a human shield against our peacekeepers. What kind of mongrels are they?! How low can they fall?! I was trapped betrween the two lines, closed in once they'd taken hold of the clinic. I was lucky they took satisfaction in a swift strike with a pistol to my jaw so that I had the opportunity to call CP in early. But Ms Marcum was hurt regardless, and one officer paid the ultimate price... Luckily everyone else made it out just fine, including Jen. Though she still appears to be quite shaken by the whole affair... I just... hope she feels better soon.
Why won't my past leave me alone... Why can't I just forget the times I was forced to involve myself with people who partook in such horrors...
Why... Can't I bury the past for good..."

"I was reminded of the price hapiness carries... An evening of drinking with a close friend, turned into yet another session of torment and agony. The last thing I can recall clearly before alcohol clouded my mind was talking to Jen, laughing and feeling genuinely good for a change. That changed once I came to my senses again, wrists aching from restraints and two masked individuals looming on the other side of a fence used to cage me and my closest friend. Of course they wouldn't let us go without some form of punishment, but what they did, what that towering brute demanded... I was beaten, not once... Not twice, but three times, a product of my stubborness. By the last hit I could barely breathe or move, leaving me incapacitated as I witnessed my recently wounded companion receive her toll. She was hit twice, more than enough to undo the lifesaving work that had happened less than a day prior. And to top it off, the officer tasked with beating us, was beaten herself by that brute. She guided us to the clinic, tending to Jen, but another officer relegated me to the corridor, leaving me to collapse for I don't know how long, before dragging me back into the OR, and dropping me against the wall like a bag of meat... Another blackout later I awaken with the ability to breathe again, as well as a wrap around my chest to aid in the healing process. 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung the x-rays showed prior to surgery. That and an inhuman amount of contusions and bruising.

I don't blame you for what happened.... I don't hold you accountable. It was my choice to stand there and endure it without showing weakness until I was unable to take any more. These wounds are my own fault. What happened to you however, I will not forgive, and I will not forget. I may support our union, and I may support the idea of civil protection. But I will celebrate the day that hulking sadist meets their demise. Rebels... make my day.

After such a long time, finally. I've made it. The end of of the road to what I've been waiting for. Tier four. After the bitter notes the relocation to d9 ended with, it's a welcome feeling. The feeling that all the waiting, fears and doubts can all make way for satisfaction.
I am very well aware that this new position isn't the end of the work, but at least with the new expectations, responsibilities and the new environment, I'm allowed to reap the rewards of my wait.

However d9... simply can't be forgotten that easily. A long step down from the comforts and charm that d43 offered, district seven through nine were each a special kind of rotten. d8 from what I've gathered was this district's slums. District seven was a xenian infested cesspool when we first arrived, but was cleansed partway through our stay. Or mostly cleansed anyway... Some of the delusions I was tricked into seeing made me dislike this district the most.

But d9 itself was a different kind of decrepit next to the structural flaws all buildings seemed to have. It's governing force was infested by someone I can only describe as a witch. A hideous fury who treated all those below her in her eyes as waste and trash. Not once was I shown a modicum of appreciation for my work, and I was punished by her for the littles of things.
And on the other end of the spectrum, we lost one of our best... May you rest in peace, Ron Goodfella...

Today, I died... It was but for a brief moment, but for said brief moment, my heart had failed and ceased function. Little is known at this point, other than that in tandem with my heart failure extreme concentrations of adrenaline and cortisol were in my blood, meaning an anxiety attack, paired with my bad habits and other pre-existing conditions may have lead to the heart failure.

During my time behind the veil however, I didn't feel like I'd died. Instead, it felt like I was dreaming. Sadly like with most dreams I remember little.

Ever since I've woken up again though I've felt... different... Like something is wrong with me. Not on a physical point, or an emotional one. But I feel... different. Odd.

And so the trend of things from my past haunting me and new pains revealing themselves to me carries on.

Following the total rendition of the city we were all hauled down into some undeground bunker from the old world CP had converted into a refugee camp for those loyal to the Union. However things weren't quite safe there... One of the first days I had an outburst against Agatha for her calling me out for not doing my part down in the camp, while all she did was "trade" within the camp, effectively scamming the people for their best belongings and even going as far wanting to sell the CMRU supplies rather than simply hand them over, all in her own interest. And because I got angry I was blamed of being mad...

Jenifer said she'd been yelling at me to stop, but I couldn't hear her. I was seeing red, and only had a ringing in my ears. I was livid.

Following that I went on several scav runs with others, but more often than not I returned harmed, and several times nearly met my demise, once after being swarmed by xenian wildlife, another after practically eating a grenade. Fortunately vortigaunt magic is a potent thing and helped me recover.
But life has a way of making things terribly ironic...

The captain forced us all to attack the camp of a xenian creature simply knows as "The Tyrant". A small handful of people with firearms and armour, and all the rest with simply tools and handheld weapons, myself included. Many died, and I almost did too... I woke up hours later only to be told almost all tissue had been blown off the right side of my back and it was only stable due to massive biogel injections.
The pain and inability... I felt awful... Truly awful...

Towards the end of our period down beneath the surface I wanted to trade for a firearm, finally acquire something to protect myself and the others, Jen in particular. And then the one person I trust most and want to protect does her best to stop that, behind my back. Never have I felt more betrayed than that very moment. She wanted to make ammends for it, but I was too angry and didn't want to talk.
Her solution? Call CP, have me disarmed and locked up for the night.

The day of our departure I was able to have a moment with her, though it was of course cut short. She believes I am too unstable. Too dangerous.
I haven't been feeling well, and have been getting angry, sure... Yet she knows why I feel unwell and still she treats me like a child or madman.
And when I do tell her my issues she forgets, or misunderstands.

She says I scare her, yet fails to see how scared I was to be down there. She was armed and protected. I wasn't. I was almost mortally wounded twice attenpting to help and earn my keep. She wasn't.

And yet I am at fault.

Jenifer Maesroe
So far you've been there for me practically all the time, provided you're not taking care of other people in need. We used to hang out more but I understand a fulltime job at the CMU takes its toll on your agenda and you have other friends too no doubt. It's rare to see someone as pure as you around taking care of the civilized society while simultaneously shunning and avoiding the rotten part that roams the streets. I still don't know if you can truly help me... But regardless if you can or not I'm happy you're putting in the effort to try.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You didn't reject me, even after telling the truth... I... I can't say I'm not a little surprised. I was honestly ready for you to end our friendship, kick me out of the CMU or possibly even call civil protection. But you didn't... You just accepted my past, continuing to believe in me. I wish I could have the same amount of confidence in myself as you have in me. You truly are too good for this world... I don't know what I'd do without you...

I'm uncertain how, but you've managed to do something I thought impossible. I suppose we're far from done surprising each other... Only time will tell what awaits us, together.

Ophelie Latourelle
I don't not truly know you, neither do you truly know me I presume due to our limited chatter. Regardless I'm still grateful for the times you've helped me, as well as the concern whenever I give in to the desire to go in for another bottle. Perhaps I should cut back... And I do believe Ms rodno has made a good call assigning you as her assistant manager. Perhaps she may relinquish her role as manager to you in the near future, something I can only dream of.

You were earlier to see the truth than I was. I can only hope in time you find your grounds, as I already have.

Kareem Irfan
My friend, I can only hope the best for you. You've been there to help the store stay upright by being behind the desk, and helped break the silence when I was behind it with some friendly chatter. My hopes are that you either come back, or at least find warmth down there in the slums.

Your name faintly rings a bell, yet I do not know you. People say you used to work at the DoB with us, but you were fired for bad behavior... I honestly wouldn't expect anything different hearing them also say you asked for sactuary in the slums... You chose your fate, and it cost you your life.

Michael "Hox" Hoxworth
After a little more time I've come to see you aren't as stone cold as I first anticipated. Granted, you're stern and rather direct too, but now I see more clearly why you sometimes appear, for a lack of better words, dead inside. If I were to have been through what you went through in your career I would not doubt act the same way. And despite our monotone or sometimes even annoyed demeanor you still care. I thank you for not only your aknowledgement when my arm was injured, but also your concern. You truly have my respect, Mr Hoxworth.
-----------------------------------------------------------
How odd for you to have left so suddenly... I'd have figured after your trip to Alaska the sight of City 24 would be pleasing to you.
I suppose our benefactors see a valuable asset in you elsewhere. I wish you the best of luck, wherever you may be.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I've heard you died... How? How could this be? You were the one man who'd seen it all. And now you're gone... The CWU will never be whole again.

Richard "Dick" Long
So far you've been quite a memorable manager to have, seeming much more appropriate to fill in the role than your predecessors. You clearly have experience. It's just a shame you're so often away attending to other facets of your career. I suppose that's to be expected once you reach a certain status and position. Where your nickname came however I won't bother asking you directly... Though I might try asking mr O'hair to see if he knows.

And no, I didn't man the desk when I was drunk.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
You simply vanished... Some say you were transferred, others that you were fired and decided to stay wherever you were. What truly happened to you?

Charlotte Madison
One of the few other people I have honestly come to consider a real friend of mine ever since I've arrived in 24... It's always nice to make small talk with you when things are quiet. Whenever I run into you on the street or see you tending the desk when walking into the Kitsune I just can't help but smile. And don't worry, what you've told me remains safe. Though I can't help but wonder what it is you've written down inside that book of yours...

Zoey Grodno
Despite your high status and important function as COO, you always seem remain in touch with those below you with your frequent and pleasant visits. You always carry a cheery demaenor, greeting everyone over the radio and always remaining friendly in person as well, to your fellow managers, to employees and to citizens alike. Ophelie truly is lucky to have you as her superior. I can't say much else other than that I wish you the best.

On a different note, I don't think I'll be trying that Bob Soda Surprise again any time soon. I had that bitter taste stuck in mouth for hours afterwards.
-----------------------------------------------
You disappeared, just like that. What happened to you? Why did you leave us to our fate?...

Samuel Lacrose
You seem both like the type of man who positively loves his job, yet hates it at the same time. You've been around for a while now and almost any time the CWU needs to get something done you're one of the first I see heading to or on site. Yet I've also seen you in workshifts multiple times, appearing annoyed, fatigued or just sick of every other person in that warehouse, crudely dismissing the workers once all has been said and done. Perhaps you like the work but not the people? I honestly don't know. Regardless, a man with a heart for the job is a man who'll do his job well and for as as he can, which I do like in a person.

I suppose I never got to thank you for the save. The again, you did tag me with a few pellets before my flight.

Alex Weaver (Pops)
Pops, you truly are a nice man, and a surprisingly active one too for someone of your age. We might not see each other very often at the apartment but I can clearly see why that would be the case. There aren't many elderly folk I ever see running a quasi full time job at the CWU as a worker or supervisor just because of how much of a toll it can take on the body or how little time it can leave for rest and recovery. Regardless it's always nice to see your face, be it in the store, at a workshift, or passing by in the street.
--------------------------------------------------------
Such a hardworking and friendly old man, come to such an end. You'd survived the Alaskan wastes and from the stories I heard were one of, if not the bravest man out there. And then to be taken out by the scum of 24... You will never be forgotten. May the ones who killed you rot...

Mattia Caruso
I like to think I'm a reasonable person, at least to those who can be reasoned with. You however don't fall in that group. On one end I can maybe undstand if you feel too anxious for a job as a sales and repairman and as such wish to leave, but to insult me, before and after you were fired, to act so uncivilised, to be such a rude piece of shit to anyone who wrongs you even in the slightest or without reason at all is something I just can't wrap my head around.
I will see to it you don't gain another job at the DoB even if it's the last thing I do, you rotten waste of a man. And the moment I see an opportunity to have you arrested by our protectors for being such a rotten being, Breen be my witness that I will take it.

Elias Siemens
You're a good, kind man who genuinely wishes to help people. Next to that you seem quite keen on getting to know people, making some simple smalltalk and keeping quite an uplifting mood. Yet I can't begin to imagine what kind of atrocities you must face on a simple workday with a store- Excuse me. With a Bucherei on Triumph street. Right in front of the Indigent gate at that. Your library, next to the restaurant, is probably the only reason I'd even considering coming close to that place. I'm curious to see what grand scheme you'll come up with next to improve our city.
------------------------------------------------------
All of this... It feels wrong. How is it that you joined the ranks of good people, taken by the scum of the earth? You were one of my oldest friends in 24, and one of the most charismatic people I'd ever met in Sector 10. Yet... After your death things started to surface. You commited fraud and other illegal actions to raise pay for the CMRU? That can't be true, right? What is it that you knew in life, that you've taken with you in death?

Quick-7
Yours was a hard role to play. Being forced to beat someone further than the standard re-education demands as opposed to wanting this on your own. Even more so, it was against your will. This already sets you apart from many of your peers, who no doubt would have loved to keep going...
I still do not hold you accountable for what happened that night, for it was my stubborness and tha brute's sadistic desires that lead to what came to be.
I will heal. I always do.
I'm just grateful you spared Jen once she began coughing, and that you listened to my warning of her wounds. Many would have simply kept going. You didn't. While I'm certain we'll never be true friends, as is the officer's life, you still have my respect, and my gratitude.

Tamara Lahtizer
You're... an odd case. You're very friendly and charismatic, but that exact thing is what strikes me as wrong about you, especially considering your crime record. You say it wasn't justified, to paint an image of you by some snarky CP or CCA. But to my knowledge the hammer of the Union as nearly never falsely accused someone of the charges placed unto your name. And I just keep hearing stranger and stranger things about you, and learning of oddities regarding your activities, people you hang out with, and your stark refusal to further climb the social ladder.

Who are you, Tamara Lahtizer?

Pathfinder
A rebel... And a headfigure among them as well. I'd expected you to pull the trigger, but you didn't. Surprising, especially so after it was made clear as day I was a loyalist.
The way you speak, what you speak of and your general demeanor display someone who's stone cold, but the reality I believe is different.
Or at least, it used to be. If you were as cold and heartless as you led on to be you would have shot me then and there without further question, nor apologized when attempting to knock me out.
We've both been stricken by crippling blows, but the way we turned out was different. You committed to a life againt your oppressors, while I've been walking the line almost my entire life, uncertain what side to choose, as both have robbed me of my beloved ones.
You're a mystery I can't yet unravel, and quite frankly I don't know if I want to.

I respect your grit and determination, but your cause I can't support. I won't get in your way, but neither will I aid you should we ever meet again.

What I said however remains true. She gets hurt, and someone will pay for it in blood. I don't care who it is, they will pay. You too fall under that rule.

I heard you were around in the twilight hours. Never did get to catch up. I suppose for better or worse.
At least I never had to make good on that promise against you.

Slaa'un Tungaka (Slung)
A vortigaunt who used to work for me in the final days of Nuts & Bolts, and now a coworked of mine again in the CMU. Cryptic like almost every biotic who I've ever met, but kinder. More involved and well mannered than some other individuals. Curiously one of the first things he entrusted me with was his true name, and the reason he can't use it in public. So, I alongside most others simply call him Slung.

You've been there for me when I doubted who I was, and even provided guidance when I couldn't see the path anymore. I do truly hope the best for you.

Ron Goodfella
Why is it always that after something splendid, something equally awful needs to happen?... You support me in my promotion, get me to the elusive status I've been chasing for months, and mere days later I hear word of your death and see your corpse...

You were a man of the people, with the heart of a lion. Charging head long into danger armed with but a simple crowbar, and all the while dressed to the nines.
You were a special man. A good man. I salute you.

Amelia Hearth
One of our latest recruits at the CMRU, and one with a good on and off the workfloor mentality. I see potential in you not only due to your skills, as shown by the fact you've been the one to try and tackle my mental obstacles, but also your overall kindness and upbeat attitude. That is certainly something you'll need I'm afraid. I can only hope that it lasts with all the horrors a doctor's positon brings with itself.

Good luck Amelia.
-------------------------------------------------------
Life has evidently kept up its cruel antics of taking away those we love or need... The antlion horde claimed you, much the way it almost claimed me. Perhaps we'd all have been better off if it were the other way around. As I said, life takes those we love or need, and leaves those we disdain...
May you find peace now.

Heinrich Tischer
We've been through a lot the two of us, as colleagues, as well as friends. Saved each other's skin on several occasions, though I feel you mostly kept me from dying, goofing off in the clinic, even during surgery if it were up to you, and during my training you were one of my mentors.
Now, so much has changed, and so quick too... After our arrival in d11, you suddenly became a member of the MoP and T6, with Jen as its head. I became Dean of Medicine, and rose to T5 again. Now, we barely see one another. And even when we do, it's practically always a business call.
It's strange now...
Though at least you don't seem to have lost your touch, much the same with Elias. High up in the ranks, but still the same. Just in a suit.

I'm uncertain what became of youin the chaos. Jenifer made the right call. I can only assume you did the same.

Monika Nemethova
You're a case I've never encountered before in my life, and one I doubt I will ever again. You've proven to be the most cruel person I have ever encountered in my time in and around City 24. Yet also one of the most complex, in a sense I simply can't choose to paint you as a perpetual villain and ban you from my life.

I first met you in i17, where I was undergoing mental treatment while I was trying to process one of the greatest tragedies of my life at that point in time. And you were there, guiding the doctors, and in turn guiding me. You were friendly. Human.
Yet next we met that woman was gone, replaced by a monster of the CPRD tasked with only one thing in mind: progress. No matter the cost.
You were swift to turn to violence for seemingly no reason. You tortured people with your tests. Forced me to be on the executing and the receiving end several times. And when I once decided to deny you your torment of the CMRU director, you exacted your ire on me, threatening to kill me, and shooting me in both feet, before forcing me to walk away.

Yet now, you've swung again. The pendulum went from friendly, to monstrous, before settling in the middle at cold.
I've seen things I can only fabricate theories around. Things I'm yet to find an explanation to. Yet, I feel if I continue to search or think too loudly on these topics, I may once more endure your wrath.

The future holds many secrets. Such as whether I will soon be under your command or not.

In a sense I followed in your footsteps. I created wonders and nightmares through science. Some able to rival your own works. Though I suppose I never stooped to your levels of inhumanity, and found my way back.
Despite my new appearance.

Hikari Fujimori
You've changed little from last you sullied i24. You're a two faced bitch, not interested in anyone or thing but yourself and your personal gain. You act all quirky and ridiculous, like the drug addict you are, around those who do not know you. Yet around those who've come to slight you according to your standards, or have seen past your lies, you show your true face. Your hypocritical, greedy, toxic, pompous self.

And now, you're my boss? Fate really does have me on her shitlist, doesn't she? I'm cursed with a boss who sees me as expendable, sending me into streets infested with monsters and rebels, with air that is harmful to breathe, only to fetch her drugs and clothing. I'm cursed with a boss who the vast majority of the time gives me nothing but shit for no apparent reason. I get injured by a panthereye on the loose? Must be my fault. I can't get an order back because the CWU does not want to cooperate right then and there? Must be my fault. I'm cursed with a boss who at this point I wouldn't be surprised if she faulted me for breathing. I'm cursed, with you.

And yet despite all that, I remain loyal to the union, and those governing within it.
But make no mistake. Should you ever suffer a fall from grace. I will be waiting.

It might not have been me, but at least I got my licks in before you were put to death, you disgrace.

Marcus Oswald

You are a dilligent and intelligent worker to put it plain and simple. A boon to the research branch. While perhaps you may be a tad infrequent, I do believe you have qualities that make up for it. Your aforementioned work attitude and intellect have secured your spot within the management ranks of the CMRU. Though your ability to remain level-headed, and remain eye-to-eye with those of equal or lower standing is what makes you a fit leader. I do believe with such a working attitude you'd be a good fit for dean some day. A successor to heinrich and Hugh if ever there was one.

All I can truly ask for though is that perhaps you open the store a bit more often.

Juniper Stenhouse
There are few people who I can say I have an adamant hatred for. Even those who directly tortured or belittled me I can find the heart for to simply put them out of my mind, or find respect in the work they deliver. Or in some manner find fault of my own.
You however fail in all these aspects. Out of left field you swoop in, and start slandering my name, my coworkers, and those I consider my friends. You take away the rewards of my hard labour and personal sacrifice. And further you expect us to still aid you when you fail at maintaining your own field of expertise.

You're a venomous, backstabbing, arrogant, slanderous, hypocritical bitch, and I am honestly sad that whoever it was that decided to go at your throat with a knife failed. I seriously hope whoever makes another attempt at your life succeeds, you waste of oxygen, space and time.

You're a better barkeep than you are a politician. I can at least fling several insults back towards you if you're not on a podium with a microphone. But you've been more tolerable than in the past. I suppose even you realise you're no longer high and mighty.

Emiyo Marcum
Stuck up. Violently arrogant. And immature to the extreme. A dangerous nuisance, to others and yourself.
We tried to help you when you needed it. I tried to reason with you.
But I'd have more success reasoning with a ficus I believe than I would with you.
Stay out of my way, and if you really want to say something, get in line and keep quiet until it's your turn.
Faction Relations
The Combine
Invasive genocidal bastards. They took everything we had and puhed us down. They say we'll reach for the stars yet here we are crippled and rotting away.

Our generous benefactors. If it weren't for them we'd likely still be stalling technologically and politically, but now they're lifting us to new heights, all while pushing away those who wish to impede that progress.

I gave you all I could. Blood, sweat, and if I could still cry, tears. And I will recognise, while it lasted you treated me fairly. Kept me alive. But I see your methods now. Once you had what you needed, you left me for dead. I suppose you underestimated me. Your worst, and final mistake.

Civil Workers Union
What can I say wbout the CWU? They're the backbone of the city and keep everything going. Sure, some of them may be a bit on the stern or exhausted side, but I honestly can't blame them when considering their line of work, being one of endless struggles, many of which can cost life and limb. If something breaks down, they have to come fix it and clean up the mess.

Idiots. Needed when they were still in existence, but idiots.

Civil Medical Union (CMRU)
If there's anyone who I'd have to tag down as the unsung heroes of the city, it'd have to be the CMU. Patching people up voluntarily and helping everyone out in general. If it weren't for them the city would without a shadow of a doubt be much harsher.
------------------------------------------------
Well, here I am now... A member of the CMU. I just hope I can prove myself here. I learned how to repair machines and electronics, as well as how to make my way to the top within a business. Surely this is just another hurdle I'll get over, right?
Right?...

Like the CWU you were needed. But in your waning days you were less reliable than ever, and filled with ill mannered fools who couldn't take orders.

Civil Protection
Civil "Protection"... Yea right. Civil Bullies with stun batons who come to beat and rob you whenever they can more like.

The CP's are here for a reason. They make sure we stay safe and maintain order throughout the city. Sure there's a the times they get a bit overzealous or cocky, but hey. I'd rather have a slightly cocky officer every now and again over the constant filth that dwells in the slums. They even saved my [...] a couple of times. I do have to say though that some well... tend to take it far sometimes.

Those who defected I can tolerate. Those who remain, know I won't reserve you any dignity. I showed respect and obedience when it benefitted me. Now, I benefit from your silence and equipment. Nothing more.

Overwatch Transhuman Arm (OTA)
Bunch of shitheads they are... Get in their way and you're liable to get shot. One time they barged into the slums and Gordon help you if you got in their way. Hell, one shot the ground in front of me and threatened to shoot me next if I didn't move.

Well, they are kind of like CP I suppose... I don't know. They're definitely not to be messed with with their position and weaponry. I like what they stand for, but I'd like for them to stand away from me... Far away. I still get nervous whenever I see them orbitting someone from CCA who just wants to come in and say hi or get a Willard coffee nextdoor. I understand them, and I support the reason they exist, but if they could just stay several dozen meters away from me that'd be greatly appreciated.

Unfeeling. Uncaring. Drones. Nothing personal against you. You do not know better. But for me to survive, you can't. And your threat means I can't show mercy, in any way. Let's hope for us both you don't feel pain.

Department of Business
I mean... I work for the DoB as a repairman and associate. Kind of speaks for itself I don't hate their guts or else I'd really be an idiot working there. And Mr O'hair can be a delight to talk to yet be firm when needed.
---------------------------------------------------------
I had honestly hoped that if the DoB were to ever bite the durst it'd have been in a different way, rather being simply absorbed and malformed by the CWU. Mr Knight, I respect what you do with the CWU and how you run it, but I must say the way you've treated and changed the DoB once it well under your command is just awful. I had hoped I'd at least be fired if I were to ever break off the DoB rather than voluntarily leaving. I have many good memories of this faction.
A shame it had to be this way.

Science and Research Institute (SRI)
I most definitely respect their work and what they bring to the city as a whole. I mean... They're the ones tasked with finding solutions to the problems we're faced with and making life easier for the populace as well as the CCA. I must admit however I am a little bit annoyed still they turned down my application. I can't help it I've never had the opportunity to properly learn the research process or the right tools to develop hem myself.
--------------------------------------------------------
Fate has a weird way of making things come true. You denied my application, yet now that we've combined I already have a seat in management due to my senior doctor's position in what used to be the CMU.
It seems I never needed to apply with you to begin with.

I've done much under yours wings. Both good, and evil. In the end, morals aside, I regret nothing I did.
No matter who it was for. It was well worth it in the end.
My work however remains unfinished. The new world may very well benefit from someone with my resume.

Vortigaunts
So far I've had no issues with the Biotics. Granted their ways are weird, but that's what also makes them rather neat in my opinion. But of course there's also those who are truly vermin and seek to exploit the good populace. Those ones will not be tolerated.

You proved vital to my survival in the twilight hours. However, just the same you've proven to be far more scheming than most humans. And while my body may no longer remember through any scars, I have not forgotten when some of you did to me. Keep out of my way, unless you're offering help or resources.

Citizens
Typically I have no issues with your average guy or gal walking down the street, but sometimes there's those who just feel... off. Some behave strangely, some are downright sociopaths. Some are kind, some are rude... I've seen nearly every personality and face under the sun pass through my store and there are some I like, but many I'd like to keep a safe distance from.

Gone. Either left behind and dead, or defected.

Underclass/Slum dwellers
Just honest men and women trying to survive.... We have to look out for each other you know?

All I have to say is I wish those filthy sewer rats a swift death at the hands of either the OTA or CP if they dare leave their enclosure. Following in their wake is nothing but poverty, mayhem and chaos. Any time they dare set foot on Victory or in a store an argument or threat follows, usually concluded with a visit from the Civil Protection and closed with an arrest. For our good as well as their own, they should just stay where they belong.

Just the same as regular citizens. Dead or defected. Be glad. You're no longer second rank to most.

Rebels
"At least there's someone fighting those bastards..."

Some folk are misguided. Others are downright desperate or looking for some way to ease the pain of their existence. These people, are neither of those two groups. They are the misguiders. They are the ones who spread despair and agony. Any time one dares show their face in the civilised society death and chaos follow. I've seen this firsthand... My Marie, saw this firsthand... I will never forgive them for what they have done to others. I will never forgive them for what they have done to me.

Just as the vorts, you were vital to my survival. But just like the vorts, you've taken more from than you have given me. You armed me, fed me, and gave me a shot at a new life. And for that, I thank you. But I have repaid my debt in my service and ability. So unless you have something to barter with, keep out of my way.

Loyalists
My supposed peers, at one point. You leeched off of my ability and work, and hardly gave anything in return. I was supposed to rejoin your ranks, but fate had different plans. Now, I've been given the chance to realise your truly rotten nature. If I lay my eyes on you, and you prove an issue, I will quickly resolve said issue.

"A surprise to be certain, that over those years spent putting my life on the line in more ways than I could count, I lived to see a world where the Combine falls. And not me with it. There remains much to be done. And my future remains uncertain, given the visible clues left by my former allegiances. At least I know I don't brave that future alone. Not anymore."
