Let's talk about pickup terminals in stores

We all use them, we all love them. Stores depend on them, and they always had them inside.

I want to know why the pickup terminals are no longer allowed inside of businesses? Kind of makes no sense to own a store front, only to sell an item to someone and run out into the streets, find a pickup terminal fifty yards away and then come back.

If you're operating the place alone too, you're leaving your store wide open for a small period of time, with no oversight to it.

Why was this decision made? What does the server stand to gain from such decision?

It makes sense in that, it shouldn't be so convenient.

You should prepare boxes where you do trips to the pickup terminals, load up your stock and bring it back to the store.
That's my opinion anyway, it makes it more fun. Otherwise you're just grabbing items from an item spawner that you control through a menu.

Okay, however, MOC has rules that does not allow stores to stock up on items, under grounds of hoarding stock. It is quite literally not allowed by the ministry. At least, back when I was in the MOC it was like that. We weren't allowing people to hoard the stock.

It changed recently before server opening to stop stores being amazon warehouses. Stores need to go out and grab stock, see this thread: https://willard.network/forums/threads/suggestion-removal-change-of-dispensers.13174/

This suggestion was partially implemented and basically made recently that stores must have a stock of their own and buy goods prior to opening and if not, face being seen as someone who is completely disorganized. This is an intended change and anyone running a store will have to adhere to this system.

We are keeping dispensers out of the stores and making sure stores grab their stock prior to opening. May seem annoying, but that has all been spoken about, approved and generally should avoid stores looking like their stock just comes from a void sitting in the back of the room. And keeps stores on their toes, ready to sell goods they want throughout the day. Espically now that unofficial stores exist per the instruction of the MOC, it means stock is basically now required.

The provision saying that you can't stock up is absolutely ridiculous . Which is why it probably turned majority, if not all stores into Amazon stores where they keep nothing on them and just turn to the machine for stock.

But to go back to what you're saying, there was a decision made to have minimal terminals to be dotted around the map to actually show the scarcity along with the fact that we are in a run down location.

I think you're forgetting how stores should be realistically ran. Stores should have an amount of product that they are able to buy and then once they run out, they should close up for a day then restock.

It would be Really, really, dumb for you to only carry a handfull of product for you only to run out and grab another single item from the terminal

Mr House here

the change was done to really show the difference between this terminal and your normal city. I did comment on Purples earlier post talking about how I wanted shops to be more independent, and though true, I’m also hoping people would do their own thing, there’s nothing stopping you from having the CWU make a pickup terminal for you.

As for the hoarding supplies thing, it no longer exists because I’d much rather people do what they want with stores, it’s the main reason there’s no OOC handbook, as gives not only the MOC, but store owners the option of freedom.

So in essence, you’re free to hoard supplies, just think about how the entire terminal would feel if everything was being hoarded by you.

OK there seems to be some confusion in this thread, because on the one side, it has never been illegal to keep a stock for your store, and on the other, no obviously you can't just "have the CWU make a pickup terminal for you"

I agree with Garratz that pickup terminal in stores are an OOC convenience that should not have been removed, but this change was made due to a decision by the Creative Team to show that the sort of combine infrastructure that would be needed to sustain a system like the pickup terminals is not present in Vladivostok.
