History

Pre-War

Lisette was born and raised in Lyon, France in the late 1980s to less than optimal parentage. With a mother constantly distracted by pharmaceutical work, and a father ironically addicted to opioids, she had extensive amounts of free time to herself in her youth. Combine this with the fact that when her mother was around she was strict to an almost cruel degree, it led the young woman directly down a path to youthful teenage rebellion. Due to her natural insecurities and competitiveness, Lisette spent much of her early teens bullying and harassing other young girls, causing her to come into an almost expected conflict with the police.

As she developed into her late teens, her ambition for brutality and nastiness only seemed to grow stronger as her parents gradually became more and more distant from her. She became involved with gangs and eventually dropped all ambitions for any form of higher education. Though, almost as though a life of petty crime was not enough, Lisette soon found herself brought into the fold of Tremblement de Terre, or in English, EarthQuake, a discreet and mostly underground terrorist organization based in France that had a global reach.

By this point in her history her parents had all but disowned her after several emotional arguments about her involvement with the organization, and she chose to cast aside the ties of her youth, quickly moving in and boarding with other members of the controversial and disruptive movement. As she aged and carried out a variety of heinous acts at the behest of the criminal agency, her misguided rebellion evolved into a slightly more mature, yet twisted form of arrogance and self-obsession. It became such that nothing mattered more to Lisette than her own worldview, and maintaining her own personal comfort.

The evening of August 24, 2008 was a fateful and history changing moment for Lisette. Locals of Lyon would come to know her as the Butcher of August. At the demands and peer pressure of other agents involved with EarthQuake, Lisette was pushed to commit a slew of murders against a family of Swiss migrants to cement her place in EQ and prove her loyalty. Fueled by the racist views of the senior leadership of EQ, Lisette killed off the entire family of five with nothing more than a tire iron. Of the family's members, two were adults and three were children of varying age.

Though the young woman was able to carry out the murders, she did not have the tenacity or wherewithal to escape the authorities. She was arrested the next morning, and almost immediately sentenced to life in prison. Though this may seem to be where the woman's story would end, as fate would have it, another event would coincide in a fashion that saved her from death...

The Invasion
Chaos struck the entirety of earth faster than anyone could have ever imagined. On May 16, 2009, seemingly just weeks before Lisette was to be transported to her permanent residence, word came across the globe quite rapidly about a breach of local reality around the Black Mesa Research Facility in the United States. Though things seemed under control for the first few days, the portal storms rapidly began to spread across the globe until a mass panic set in. The prisons were quickly abandoned as the streets began to flood with strange entities from unknown worlds, and that is when Lisette made her escape. With no one to care either about whether she stayed in prison or if she was executed, she quickly severed her ties with EarthQuake and collected weaponry for security before heading underground.

Days, weeks, months? Who knew how much time had passed since she went into hiding, curled in a smelly bed cot hidden underneath a farm house. Her only friend during the passage of such long lengths of time were alien sounds of warfare and chaos above. All she knew when the strange and terrifying soldiers dragged her out into the sunlight is that it was blinding - moreso than she could have ever imagined possible.

Occupation
The process referred to as 'reintegration' was to her quite similar to booking into a prison - and the established cities under Combine rule appeared a lot like one. Her fingerprints were taken and logged, her photograph was recorded, samples of her blood and saliva were taken, and she was subject to an invasive and uncomfortable full body scan. The world had changed massively in just a short time span, and now she found herself as a citizen of some new and terrifying alien Empire. For what it was worth though, this new Empire recognized her previous misdeeds as potential for utility in their new order.

Lisette's history and past were pulled and examined in detail by the Combine, who decided she was a perfect candidate for a new program they hoped to implement. A rough and brutal new family similar to her old terrorist commune, Civil Protection was established shortly after the formation of the cities with the intention of providing a fully human peace keeping force to take up the duty of law enforcement so that the transhuman soldiers could be saved for more important tasks.

She was given power, and weapons to enforce that power. The only thing the Combine asked of her is that she bring others under the rule of the alien empire, and demand they respect it. For once in her life, Lisette was in control, and with this control she could not only fuel her own ego, but as well her own taste for blood and battle. This was her world, and anyone who dared defy this truth would face her wrath.
