I'm sure you've all seen the cooking section of the crafting menu, with some of the recipes and requirements being correct for it's skill

However, there is some that are some basic foods that are heinously at a too high of a level. To make a normal meat steak or a sandwiches of any manner, you need a large level; aswell as a big commitment to get to that level that rivals gordon ramsey on his career for cooking. It doesn't take an expert to shove a slab of meat on a pan, alongside spices both of which is incredibly basic and doesn't require you to be that smart in cooking to add nor cook, all you do is wait and turn it over until it's done to your taste.

When you have restaurants that rely on food as it's main basis for sales, you'd already need to invest in your cooking skill, which is basically from skewers working up slowly that is a heavy credit/chip dump or you of course the food menu that you have which, ordinarily, you'd cook your own food for cheaper than directly buying and selling it for lower prices. Whilst it shouldn't be too high of a level, it shouldn't be too low of a level neither so no intelligence 1 neanderthal knows how to cook immediately.

(there are more but i haven't seen the cooking menu in a month so idk, i'll edit when server is back up)

The level requirement was partially done because some recipes attribute bonuses are pretty strong - essentially, as a balancing act.

So while this could likely be accepted, keep in mind that attribute bonuses would be lowered a bit and perhaps ingredient costs might be raised.

Will give this some more time in the oven before accepting/denying though.

Kinda proud of that pun ngl

lowering attribute boosts would be great

lowering attribute boosts would be good tbh, would give more incentivization for people to get their attribute boosts from drugs rather than eating a buffet before a fight, however i still stand that ingredients should be atleast a cheaper way to make food rather than straight buying it, nonetheless having quite the cost to it

Food is good as it is. Lowering the skill level substantially just makes it a skill people pick up on the side. Right now if someone wants to be a gourmet chef they actually have to have a character who dedicated their life to it for quite a bit.

For most characters, pick crafting, Medicine or Cooking to be good at, or be mediocre in all.

You hardly need any cooking level to keep yourself fed, and that's what the low level skills are all about. Taking stuff you can't eat and making it edible so you don't starve. Leave the fancy stuff to the chefs ^^

I agree with Asimo here, with basically all other skills, you specialise in that specific thing, and maybe one other if you're careful, or you share your levels between various skills and specialise in nothing, that's how the system works

There's no real need to fuck around with the cooking skill, like Asimo said, leave it for the chefs.

That being said, it's hardly a rare thing to come across, on either side of the fence, there's always stores selling cooked foods, and passive-sided rebels doing the same, plus with the new coming focus on not separating the player base all the time, having rebels interact with the city more, they'll be able to get their fancy steaks there too.

Also attributes *barely* matter anymore, as we're still operating s2k, with s2rp basically being an optional thing, or in certain GM situations, so again there's no real need to lower the boosts either, since they don't really affect anything besides none-combative RP anymore anyway

but you don't need 20+ cooking level to put a bit of meat on a pan and cook it with spices, nor to make a sandwich, where you put stuff inbetween bread, they just want you to grind the levels when those credits can be put somewhere else for roleplay or other scenarios
it's a waste

Then don't do it? No one is forcing people to make the high level foods, that's why the low level stuff like skewers exist.

Nerfing the cooking skills will just lead to actual chefs being like "What the fuck, I wasted all this time levelling this skill just for everyone to be able to do it"

I mean shit. You can eat a bloody leech raw and it's like one of the easiest and most filling foods you can eat for some reason

I'm not saying what your saying isn't logical, it is, you don't need to be a chef to make a sandwich, but it's part of the skill set for chef players to feel progression along their chosen speciality, it's spread out in a way that constantly unlocks things, rather than just having a giant skill gap between some foods and others

I made a specific point about this on the last map by making a character that literally farmed like nearly 1000 leeches and put them in a container. Food isn't hard to get

Nor is there any need to make high-level food

Nor is there any need for EVERYONE to be able to do it, chef characters exist for a reason

Cooking is being reworked, so will mark as accepted even if it doesn't turn out the way the post expects. Just going through the whole list of foods and readjusting
