I want to start off by saying I am not a fanatic of the Combine by any means, or necessarily an idealogue of any sort. However, I feel some of us are forgetting that we were all loyalists -- (indirectly or directly) -- We have all played a hand in helping out the Combine, whether as a meek bureaucrat or an enforcer. So, I ask why we hunt down these 'loyalists' like cattle if not for our own self-hatred of ever lending it help in the first place? I've been reading some theory lately to get a better outlook on 'why they do it and what it accomplishes' and I've been seeing a trend in all of them: they want to help, and in some cases, they have! Let us not forget that the only reason we're using these computers, arming ourselves, and being able to merely breathe is the Combine? Have we really delved that far into contrarianism that we cannot accept a simple fact that, in some ways, we would've been better off with the combine than without?
It is a hard truth to face, but let's accept it; war and conflict have ceased to exist.
The archaic racial disputes of the 20th and 21st century have been annihilated.
We have technological prowess we couldn't of dreamed of without the Combine.
Our medical progress has evolved tenfold with the aid of the Combine.
The Xen infestation was practically wiped out by the said Combine.
Are we really not allowed to say thanks -- (even though the main reason the rebellion happened is because of the Combine's own technological advancement) -- even though diseases can be easily cured by just a simple syringe? We cannot dive headfirst in this mindless demonizing of loyalism, and I personally think it's a new form of subterfuge. Distract, distract, distract, and let nobody ever take notice of how good we had it, so nobody will notice how mundane it is now. Keep in mind the suppression field was willingly turned off by the new Administration, indicating how it was Breen's fault we were left with a dying population, not the Combine itself -- (I'm not denying that they were objectively evil, but it is still a stretch to call them purposely harmful) -- Erama's ideology, Accelerationism, gives us an insight into his though process. It shows us that he is not objectively evil or malicious but simply a deceived man burdened by the weight of his role, and let's be honest.
Who hasn't thought of being the man in the chair?
There is nothing objectively evil about 'Collaborationism', or 'Loyalism', nor Accelerationism.
They'll be saying the same thing about us in City 24, yet I don't see any 'Loyalist' coming over to call for their heads, hm?
We must stop ourselves from being deceived, before we become the ones we sought to liberate.
