More Temp PKs (Prison Sentences)

Can we please push for more temp PKs where we send criminals to prison for 2-4 days or something? I feel like we amputate too much for crimes that aren't deserving of it. If resisting arrest or having a weapon by all means. But if they give up willingly we should consider a prison sentence. Let it develop them and write some more backstory about their time in prison, let it shape them more.

Depending on the severity of the crime add an additional day. I have been PKing/killing citizens doing socio-endangerment crimes but they are very willing to work with me when interrogating and prosecuting them. I feel bad OOCly for ripping their characters away because of misunderstandings OOCly and ICly and I've been involved in 3 PK appeals in the last week. (Keep in mind 2 of those 3 times I was ordered by Rank Leaders to Amputate when suggesting a prison sentence)

I ask that the MPF leads, Creative Writing Team, and whoever it falls under, to reconsider punishments or rework the violations guide.

Just send people to OCR. As far as I’m aware practically any cop can do it. One time some lady resisted arrest AND assaulted some cops, but my unit just to spite her after she said she wanted to die, sent her off to OCR anyways. Just do it!!

Used to be in the old guide that you pretty much had all the freedom to downgrade a sentence if you thought there was sufficient reason (first time offenders, accidents, cooperative in interrogation, honest mistakes, ...) to do so. Not sure if that still goes though.

From what's being discussed on the MPF discord, only Rank Leaders and IAT can decide if someone goes to OCR. Every other unit (From my understanding) Cannot send people to OCR.

Fuck them rank leaders dawg

I think having an immediate PK harder to get would be a good thing, especially when some people put months of work into a character to only have it snatched away by either being unlucky, having some contraband on them (ahem trench-coat ahem) or being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Furthermore, if someone has done something middling or minor, I don't think it is unreasonable to have them sent to some form of re-education camp for a week or two as a 'temp PK', for things like running round with weapons, aggravated assault, GBH or such then an amputation is fitting, but I really think that there should be a lean to not just immediately removing someone's progress, especially when PK's and removal from faction is a very selective rule on the server that is only applied to certain groups.

to play devils advocate however, there should be some circumstances that are a PK on the spot, such as being gunned down by OTA in a sweep for example, or being caught with a firearm or such (even then, I'm amazed the Union wouldn't use said person as a means to track said gun to its source)

EDIT: Additionally you could have it so that, if your SC drops beneath a certain amount, your an Amputate-on-Sight if your arrested when your SC is that low.

I think that's a good shout. I also introduced this to a server I helped run as TKs (Temporary Kills) and it was met favorably. It doesn't have to be constrained to Combine forces only, maybe a rebel/citizen wants to send a message to someone, in which point they can opt for a TK. The way this could be done is through spawning a body, where if proper medical attention is received (By CMU, not fucking /me slaps on medigel and calls it a day.) the person can be in recovery for X amount of days/weeks.
Introducing a middle-ground between NLR kills & PKs is a good idea overall, IMO.

Prison system where you have to play on that char to run the sentence down. I wanna see the wacky prison rp that citizens do when the guards only care about keeping them in.

Where's the prison though? Who's watching the prisoners? What can they RP?

Just some general questions. I'd love to see some sort of actual prison RP but idk how well it can go.

This is great. What I also think this is best for is if you use it for crimes based on suspicion of well. There's no middle ground between "Amputate" and "Re-Education" so when someone is PK'd because the totalitarian dystopian police force thinks they did something bad, people get reasonably very pissy, which I believe is why it doesn't happen. This is a perfect solution for that.

Suspicion is usually caused by a character at least being either in association with the crime, affiliation with the person, or in vicinity of the crime, so it's up to other players to choose whether they want to be near that stuff, and they should know the risk associated with it. With that in mind, you can effectively punish a character without outright ending them. 2-4 days really isn't that long, and people have other characters too.

I think amputation should always be avoided in cases where a better, more RP compelling alternative can be given anyways, and this is at least better for roleplay than PKing a character.

Nova Propekt style OTA? yes please

@Neonity make it happen cap'n
Pretty sure it's just a temp pk, not an actual prison RP situation. Prison RP has been suggested and it was met with a mostly resounding no for many reasons.

Prison RP is not what I think should be the core of this sort of discussion or what is trying to be suggested, but it is something that has possibility. However, I think it's more important to focus on the alternative of just PK'ing someone through amputation. There is plenty of ways to justify incarceration IC'ly, and it also gives CPs the autonomy to become a judge of character in their own regard.

That being said, I want to reiterate that last point. It gives the CP the chance to be the judge of character. Generally, we know that since they got the CP whitelist, they are competent RP'ers. Giving them the ability to analyze the person they are dealing with, and deciding whether or not they should be PK'ed or Temp-PK'ed should be something they decide for themselves in the manner of analyzing the situation and how it played out. Naturally, this could be IC reason or that the player of the CP feels that the person they detained shouldn't just immediately get capped. Punished? Of course, but not enough where whatever development that character had is just gone to the wind.

to play devils advocate however, there should be some circumstances that are a PK on the spot, such as being gunned down by OTA in a sweep for example, or being caught with a firearm or such (even then, I'm amazed the Union wouldn't use said person as a means to track said gun to its source)

I agree with this as well. Normal PK guidelines should naturally still be followed, and obvious infractions that would warrant a swift IC PK should still be followed. If you captured a rebel, you know what's gonna happen probably. However, with the possibility of a Temp-PK, the odd line between someone normally being let go and the cusp of what would become a PK becomes a little broader.

All in all, PK should always be seen as the last go-to option, unless its properly warranted through certain action stated by guidelines. For smaller things like first offenders, cooperative interrogations, and the culmination of whether the CP feels it worthy to PK a character based on RP and/or how that character presents IC'ly to that officer should be made available. And if its not to fall in the hands of the general CP population, then make it something to entwine in command.

Secondly, and slightly off topic, Temp-PK's essentially give the person whom is affected by the TK to 'transition' back to an alternative character, allowing them to develop some other character.
I think having an immediate PK harder to get would be a good thing, especially when some people put months of work into a character to only have it snatched away by either being unlucky, having some contraband on them (ahem trench-coat ahem) or being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Again, literally a solution to this problem. While being TK'ed, they still have to use another character, but they won't have the burden of knowing they are starting all over from zero again. Some newer players suffer from this a lot. They are new, and want to learn as much as possible, but stay on the same character because they are still adjusting to peoples and the way the server works. If for some reason they got PK'ed, or they never really developed a secondary character, then essentially, their work is gone, and they have no 'backup'. All that work goes down the drain and they start from zero? Some would just leave.

While TK's wont totally solve that issue, it's a bit of a bandaid on it, at the very least. But all in all, I'm totally +support all for this.

Wait, what. Shouldn't that be the other way around? The dangerous thing would be to allow any cop to end a character instead of using a more lenient punishment.

I think using Temporary Kills in this function would be understandable. But sometimes also having some timer to run down in game while doing """wacky shit""" (like prison rotations for food, etc.) in the Nexus' Prison (if it has one) would be a good touch. That or just a release on a specific date past this point.

So I recommend our choices be:
- Temporary Kills for X amount of days (prison sentence, not RP'd out).
- Put into a Nexus jail for minor to mediocre crimes with a timer of how much time is left until CPs release you (prison sentence, RP'd out).
- Put into a Nexus jail for minor to mediocre crimes, no timer (combination of option A and B, up to person to RP out or not).

Having a prison section with a cafeteria, work area and maybe a yard would make prison rp viable. Can't do it if the whole thing is just a few cells in the nexus.

omg so based!!! give prisoners like... a courtyard or something and let them rp!

Giving violators more temp-PKs (OCR) is something that can be solved entirely IC and not necessarily worthy of a suggestion. All you need to do is speak to your fellow units, say "Hey, what do you think about sending this guy off to the OCR instead of killing him?" and odds are they'll say yes. If it becomes widespread enough, more people will encourage it and your suggestion is implemented entirely through IC means.
