The early days

Oddesa.jpg

Emil knew little of the old world, his earliest memories being those of him on the move with his parents fleeing their homeland which was ravaged by alien infestations. When the Combine came he was not separated from his family at first. The trio managed to still live together for a while even under the Combine’s grip in City 53. Alas it would not last as during a crowded tram ride the carriage was boarded by Civil Protection. They were searching for the Horowitz family. Urged by his father Emil hid in the crowd, ultimately succeeding in evading the Civil Protection, his parents however were not quite so fortunate. It was unclear to Emil what had happened to them and from here on out he was on his own.

Unsure of what would happen to him should he be caught by the he lived as a beggar on his own in the slums, Getting by on rats, birds, crabs, leeches and anything else edible he could get his hands on. But it was apparent that this lifestyle was utterly unsustainable. Too young to work within the Combine he would instead turn towards the elements of the underworld that worked under no such restrictions.

As he grew into a young man he made contact with the Local remnants of the Ukrainian Mafiya, initially paid small sums for acting as a lookout for any approaching Civil Protection, in due time he was offered to join their ranks proper as a bratok.

In here he grew to enjoy the power his new status had given him, eager to defend the mob's operations ranging from guns, drugs and whores all the way to drinking water. To punish all who have made themselves enemies of the family in exchange for a decent meal, a place to stay and a group to belong to. He was ultimately no better if not worse then the Civil Protection. He had learned many skills from reading to maintaining his weapons, met many people he could both respect and despise, the Mafiya had even provided him with a forged identity that made Emil listed Emille as older than he actually was, thus allowing him to return to society.

All things must come to an end. After 6 years within their ranks the local underground scene had collapsed due to infighting as well as a concentrated effort by the Combine to crack down on local Anti Citizen activity. The Mafiya was destroyed, the Thieves in Law had no more Hitmen to send after Emil should he desert the family.

Thus he took his chance at fleeing this sinking ship and became an ordinary citizen once more. To ensure the complete breakup of the local resistance, the administration had ordered a surge in relocations. Emil was likewise one of these relocatees and had spent the final years of the occupation as an ordinary citizen until he would eventually arrive to City 24.

Gravitating towards the underground as usual, he would get into contact with a man named Florian who would eventually recruit him into the front.

Relationships
The Mafiya
My old home, strict, cruel and unjust but you taught me how to survive and played by your rules.
Gangsters.png

The Machinegunners
The enforcers of the Combine, you shoot at us and we shoot at you, not much else to say here. Somehow your commanders are even more incompetent then ours, the sole silver lining in our war efforts.
Machinegunners2.png

The Bandits
Despite getting food, water, shelter, medical care and anything else you could have wanted if you came to us or any other rebel group for free you instead choose to run off since you need to desperately live out your bad boy fantasy.
The Rot
Crazy cultists that make the Combine seem preferable.
Rotters.png

The Liberators
The worst of us.

The rebels
A band of morons I am part of, I don’t have much hope in this new world built up by you but we will have to wait and see.

Packert
Killing you is one of the few good things we did.

Bishop
A crazy drugged up Vortigaunt with terrible ideas occasionally mixed with good ideas. Looks like a fucking rainbow with all the armbands he looted, perhaps next time he lectures me on the darkness of my soul he can do so whilst wearing the personal Swastika armband of Adolf Hitler

Oksana
Florians wife, or atleast was. I offered her a place with us since Florian would probably want me to do that which she accepted. she tags along and is there I guess so thats good.

West
Crazy idiot with a gun that will shoot his pals over the dumbest shit, this one is also a pervert.

Marcuss
Talk about a turnaround, this guy went from being a top dog of the Combine to being the public spokesman of our group, for better or worse. Ultimately shot by one of his own.

The Shepherds
Cowards and Idiots these days although I did not forget the day you helped the Front out with the Combine raid, what happened to those Shephards?

Commander Jin
For calling yourself a Commander I can’t say I ever saw you enforce order in any meaningful way when you could.

Charles Ross
We met in the City, you understood what the rest of the Shephards were up to and stuck with us, even if it cost you your life. But I appreciate your sacrifice anyways.

The Front
The only ones who were ever decent to me, now dead and gone.

Florian
You saved me, once when I was on my own after the bunker's destruction, and again from the Nexus after my imprisonment. Yet now you are gone and in your absence the resistance is in shambles.

Grace
A meaningful name for a competent leader and fighter and a great chef, Now gone like the rest of the Front.

Webber
The Fronts strongest soldier, one whom I have faith in that his fuck ups will only bring himself down, in spite of everything he does I trust him more then most people here.

Greynard
Used to think we were friends yet after all this time you don’t even know my name. The first thing you do after not being a ghost anymore is to get high and then rob me with a gun that I gave you, good riddance.

Sniper
Big talk saying you brought down 10 synths in the 7 Hour War. In the end you could not beat a single thug.

The Messman Initiative
A leaderless trio that I am part of now which does what the White Dove says.

Eden
My go to dealer when she was around, yet now she is gone.

Colo
The saviour of my life, one of the few people here I can take seriously, understanbly so she choose to build up her group in the outlands elsewhere these days.

Dottero
Used to be insufferable, although ever since he got his farm he stopped believing he is the the boss of our ammo and is atleast tolerable now.

Aminata
A babbling idiot of contradiction who won’t take off her cop suit believing it holds magic properties or some shit. Boosts that she will only be a backline doctor which is why the first thing I see her do in the Depot is run into a chokepoint with a sniper rifle so the rest of us can pull her ass out.

The White Dove
The sole inheritors of this warband. Ludwig is respectable and the rest of you can at least keep your guns focused on the Combine, most of the time.

Dovers.png
Ludwig
You try your best, shame the only people you got left to work with are all insane or only are in it for their own egos.

Irida
Ludwig's wife and a former cop, she is like there I guess.

Louis
Another former cop who tries realy hard with the way he talks to sound like a bad boy.

Colonel Jack
You may proudly rock your uniform of a Combine enforcer even now although the guns you bring to the table make that more then tolerable.

Ophelia
Used to be with the Front but now she is with them.

Stenhouse
Never shuts the fuck up about how much she hates Emiyo.

Emiyo
She tries to be a voice of reason, her ideas make sense. Unfortunately for her you cannot win an argument with an idiot, or well idiots which is the majority of this place.

Yards
Crazy idiot who gets high on drugs, then goes to get himself killed.

Gareth
Another Dove, I don’t think this one even needs drugs to turn his guns on his allies.

Fives
A former rank leader now acting like the paragon of some saintly stuff to make herself feel better after all the people she killed as a cop. Atleast the bullets she hands out are usefull.
The Free Army
A bunch of Conscripts who advertised themselves as being better trained then the rest of the rebels, which is why they all got themselves killed.

Jouhad
You made big speeches I could not care less about. The only thing I know about your army is how much trouble Sophie caused for me.

Sophie
Nearly kills all of us, then nearly gets herself killed, then after we save her life her first course of action is to kill herself for real this time and also try to take Klaus with her whilst she is at it.

Eight days have passed since Alice’s raid on the Citadel reactor, and the Combine abandoned City 24, retreating to other remaining installations they had around the globe. In a dimly lit hospital bed, a disfigured man lay. Despite Alice's reassurances that the reactor's Anti Matter radiation is not harmful to regular matter as it barely interacts with one another, it proved itself to be wrong. Unlike the one who entered City 17’s reactor, Nick did not possess any type of hazard suit when he entered the reactor to insert the stabilisers. Whether exposed to the radiation of the core itself or another malfunction at his station, it had taken a severe toll upon his health following his return. Coupled with the complications resulting from an Overdose of Medigel to save his life when he was blown up in the Swamp it was clear there was not much time for him left.

Thus, he bid his time, already handing his Chips to Emiyo before the raid and parting ways with his weapons two days later as he was hospitalised, the only things he had left to his name were his gown, his eyepatch and a constant dose of morphine to make the pain bearable. Even most of the food he tried to eat, he would just throw up. For two days, he did his best to assist the other more severely injured patients, but on the third day, he no longer found the strength in him to rise from his bed.

Ludwig had already left for CERN, Emiyo, Colo, or that Gravekeeper guy might have visited to say hi and ask how he wanted to be buried, but by then, he was so out of it he could no longer acknowledge them. He was unsure of the condition of the others who went with him to the Citadel.

He wondered if he would live to see the trees outside blossom. Would there be nothing after death? Or if there were a god, he would most certainly not welcome him into his kingdom after what he had done in the Mafiya. But more than anything, he wished he had asked Grace for a copy of the photograph she took of them, Grace, Uwe, Greynard, himself, and one other woman he could not recognise. At least that way, he could have something to hold on to and focus on.
Alas, his remaining eye drifted to sleep one last time.
